  1. With the announcement that PMDG is bringing the DC-6 to MSFS, I thought I would dig into the hangar & dust off their P3D version. Nice flyer. Will be interested to see if they include the Artificial Flight Engineer as it makes the trip so much more relaxing if he is juggling MP, Mixture & other settings😀 And the 3rd shot is a Tower View at Tegel, where it appears every wind turbine in Germany has lined up on the horizon! T45 (P3D v4.5)
  2. This being my first PMDG product purchase, I was excited and thrilled to finally buy a product from them I wanted. To my surprise, it did not fair favorably to other competitors products I already own and use. It may be standard fair, but I get the feeling like this plane is unfinished. There are things I’m finding that are missing or don’t work like most other AAA or even budget planes I own. Perhaps many of these things were done and designed on purpose, dunno, I welcome any feedback. Also perhaps many things are still being worked on and will be featured in future updates, dunno that either. Some of the below may have been mentioned elsewhere but here is my compiled list of issues or things so far I feel that are questionable for such an arguably heralded developer and pricey plane: C+D does not shut windows, turn off lights nor return some gauges. No 10 fuel tanks in transatlantic plane variant though aircraft.cfg has a 5512 gallon variant rem'ed out, hmmmm. Many tool tips seem missing or omitted. No nice Ref Info page or Checklist included in Kneeboard? Throttles won’t move with game controller buttons. Water injection lights never seem to come on? The lack of blower or cabin noises with various electricals powered up is accurate? Many standard keyboard shortcuts do not function; CtrShiftF1234 does not move the mixture levers, CtrlM does not move Batt Sw, ShiftE does not open main door, Shift and Ctrl and L for lights does not work. Must mouse click mixture control levers, keyboard does not work. Possible error: Starter engages even if the boost sw is not on? pg161 POH "...the boost switch must be depressed before the start switch will function." Even though all avionic devices are off, the ATC announcements come through? Some unexpected nice features: Remembers where you left all switches/levers after closing FSX. I'm no expert at all but most everything seems to be top notch in regards to sim study type accuracy. Questions for myself yet (feel free to contribute an answer if anyone is so inclined(thanks in advance)): Does it shoot flames out the exhaust/engines at any time? Does save/load function work well mid flight? What did the 2 buttons on the yoke do on the real plane? What does Aux Blower Sw do? What does Cooling Turbine Sw do? I don’t understand the helpfulness function or purpose of Cockpit Lighting area within the Ramp Manager panel?
  3. Many things are photogenic here.....look at the 2 nice sets of twins.....ON THE AIRCRAFT silly! 😉 Dawn approach, nose in the sun...Sunset Beach bar made famous by so many vids. Here is a shot from the "other" bar. And a cool shot from the balcony of the hotel I hope to stay at one day. This plane is a blast to fly....loving every minute of it.
  4. This set is for you @P_7878 - 'by special request' - I'd hate you to go away disappointed <grin> I got this when it came out, kind of reluctantly. I really am not in love with the whole button-pressing lever-pulling knob-twiddling thing in the sim, but the combination of this being such a fine looking beast and the fact that is has the AFE to take care of most of the aforesaid fiddling around I thought I'd risk it. So far, I'm still much happier just looking at the thing than trying to fly it, but you never know, I might get around to it eventually. So here's my attempt to capture the SF mist / sea fog / morning cloud or whatever it actually is, with JFK on his way back east after a bit of west coast hand-shaking. Way too much going on in here for the likes of me Wasn't really getting the feel I was looking for, plus of course you can't really see much in these conditions, so restarted the flight with brighter skies What I like about this shot is that because the Bing imagery is so out of date, Candlestick Park is still here in this picture, and I figure that gets you a whole bunch of '60s icons in one picture, assuming you buy into the idea of Jackie and JFK both being on board here CTD'd here - none of the replay software is hugely happy being wound back to the beginning or moved around a lot, I've found, so didn't manage to get a sunny shot over the bridge. Never mind, there's plenty of time for more of this later. Enjoy.
  5. Hi folks, checking the POH I was looking for information on realistic cruise speeds for long distance flights. On my historic KLM601 flight Glasgow to Gander I experienced ground speed of an average 235kts, of course with some (changing) head winds. 1. I am not sure on how to interpret the material in the POH, 2. eg. in chapter 4.4, graphs 89 etc. 3. Wiki states 507km/h = 274kts, far away from my experienced IAS and GS. 4. Was my prop settings right? Too high RPM and fuel consumption? For the range of 1864 nm 230 kts gives 8:30, 270kts TAS 7:11... How to find the optimum, ie. max TAS with acceptable fuel consumption...? Does the carburator heat influences the fuel consumption (on 8000ft carb temp is often in yellow arc...) Huh, too many levers, variables... lot's of fun to figure that out!
  6. I checked the forum and could not find anything on my problem. I am running FSX all updates Gold edition. After about 30 to 45 mins. My screen fades to black but FSX never errors out. This is the first PMDG plane so I am not sure what I did wrong. I have set FSX up as the docs said and changed my FSX.cfg file per the docs as well. Thanks for any info. Eddie
  7. Hey guys....in case you missed it....she's out and priced at $54.99! Simply stunning in MSFS!
  8. Hi folks, a couple of days ago I managed my second transatlantic flight KLM601 EGPK/PIK to CYQX/YQX -- this time without mid-air tankering! I planned the flight with a 1000BHP setting and fuel bias of P10.0. (Details below) During cruise I tried my best to hit the 1000BHP values for 8000ft RPM 1870, BMEP 151, 439LBS/h, 194 IAS, 224 TAS, gross weigth 90k. I noted BMEP/MP/RPM/FuelFlow/GS: IBROD 150 3.3" 2000 480 450 500 480 198 SUNOT 150 3.3" 2100 440-500 210 In essence: The fuel flow was much lower in comparison to my first flight to Gander with 600lbs/h (see my earlier notes in the threads why-engine-health-indicators-wear-and-tear and cruise-speed-on-long-distance-flights). However, even with planning on 1000BHP, adding P10.0 bias, and filling up to max fuel (574lbs) I had 1864lbs in my tanks arriving in Gander. Why? Well... Eventually the flight time was 9h18m, but SIMbrief had calculated 8h14m. This extra hour's 2000lbs plus 1864lbs equals roughly 3800lbs, which is close to the SIMbrief calculated EFOB 3.5 at YQX. So, could I set the power precisely? The power levers mainly adjust BMEP (ignoring here mixture controls), the propeller pitch lever adjusts the RPM. Here my question: Does the main propeller pitch lever allows truly only the FSX provide notches? The AFE smoothly slides the lever back back (for cruise setting) as if there were no notches. Due to the (FSX provided?) notches we can set RPM only in three viable settings. (Worth a ticket to PMDG?) 9. Hello, All: I searched this forum and was not able to find any information on the DC-6 paint kit. Currently PMDG only has the X-Plane version with X-Plane install instructions: I'm looking for instructions to publish liveries for P3D/FSX. I am assuming we can use the Operations Center to package and install custom paints but I'd like to make sure. I've already started my own paints and just want to make sure I install them correctly and that I am using the correct files. If anyone knows where the instructions are for the other flight sim platforms I would appreciate it very much. Thanks!
  10. Hi folks, happily I am on may way as a historic flight KLM601 EHAM--EGPF--CYQX--KIDL (I assume they flew to Idlewild, now KJFK). Current leg is EGPF--CYQX. The clock on the captain's side as well as the GPS show local time. Flying while crossing time zones this is rather confusing. Could this be switched to GMT, as also the true aircraft won't adjust the time automatically? Or at least in the GNS430? (The FSX option in Settings--General only takes the computer's time for free flight, no effect.) Thanks in advance.
  11. Ups, the Bendix FLT (flight time) and ET (elapsed time?) do not stop in FSX while on pause... Is this worth a ticket?
  12. It's been pretty quiet on the P3D DC-6 front. That's maybe good. Any beta testers able to comment on the state of affairs with this aircraft? I have bated breath...
