February 26, 201511 yr Hello all. Does anyone have any opinions on the best L1011 Tristar for FSX? From what I can see, there are two major contenders, 1011 Captain from CaptainSim and L-1011 TriStar Professional from Just Flight. Can't seem to find any comparisons of the two. Grateful for any comments you can share about either one. Thank you
February 26, 201511 yr From what I have seen all arround the web, the CS seems to be superior Kenz CHERIEF - IVAO 122933 - VATSIM 1349276 - GalleryLeonardo Maddog MD80 Procedures Handsheet for beginners
February 26, 201511 yr The CS version is definitely superior to the former ("non-professional") JF release. Can't comment on JF's professional re-release, unfortunately. (CS' 10 EUR sale was more attractive than JF's upgrade offer. ) What happened to AVSIM
February 26, 201511 yr Author Thanks for the comments. Yes, it seems like the CS is the most talked about one. Can't seem to find a great deal of info about the JF pro version. Does CS have 10 Euro sales often?
February 26, 201511 yr The JF Professional is reviewed in this month's PC Pilot where it receives the top 'Platinum' rating. "JF has taken an already excellent package and created a magnificent homage to the Tristar with virtually a whole new aircraft ...pushes the aircraft well into the high end bracket .... high level of systems fidelity that was missing from the original" Michael Turner
February 26, 201511 yr Annually only, unfortunately: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/458111-heads-up-its-the-captainsim-annual-everything-for-999-24h-sale/ But I consider their Tristar worth the regular price. What happened to AVSIM
February 26, 201511 yr Author Hmm tough choice then... Both are priced quite well (CS would win on price, but as you point out only on sale once a year). The PC Pilot review is quite encouraging, I'll see if I can get a copy to read it fully. Thanks all! Edit: Can I ask, how much system detail is there in the CS? Is all of the engineers panel modelled, buttons etc?
February 26, 201511 yr Yes, the engineer's panel is well modeled with functioning fuel pumps/dump, pressure controls, fire alarms, and so on. I have the original JF version. I would not come close to calling it "an already excellent package;" I parked it after a few dozen flights and have not upgraded to the "pro" version; afraid of throwing good money after bad. The flight model is OK (the CS' nose needs to be forced down on landing and she's more difficult to handfly) and the sound pack is from TSS, superior to the CS sounds. In the original version, the engineer's panel is virtually non-functional. The CS has better livery availability, the VC is very nice, and it has an INS which can be operated properly or coupled to a FSX flight plan. It seems to be considered one of their top three aircraft. Comments on the JF support forum for the pro version seem mixed to OK. Hans Soule
February 26, 201511 yr For engine start on the CS Tristar I had to consult the CS knowledge base. This is to confirm that there is some system depth modeled into the CS' engineer's panel. The original JF release, even after receiving 2 servicepacks, was not yet "an already excellent package", IMHO. Variants, configuration options, heaps of liveries - yes, but system depth and flight behavior on autopilot - no (not sure, whether this was caused by the JF FDE or by the autopilot itself.) What happened to AVSIM
February 26, 201511 yr Looking at the JF Pro it seems to have included some more system depth even lift dumpers which werent in the original but CS ver already had. I think JF hurt their sales a little by over simplifying things, looks like they are picking up there game a little.
February 26, 201511 yr I have the JF pro, it's complicated and a handful to fly. I would say it's not for the faint of heart and the tutorial flights are a must. David Graham Google, Network+, Cisco CSE, Cisco Unity Support Specialist, A+, CCNA
February 27, 201511 yr Author Thank you all for the input, I really appreciate it. I think I will grab the CS one ultimately as it is the cheaper of the two and spend the difference on the TSS sounds to compliment it if needed.
February 27, 201511 yr The JF Professional is reviewed in this month's PC Pilot where it receives the top 'Platinum' rating. That PC pilot will award a Just Flight Product a platinum rating is hardly a shock If you are a major buyer of advertising PC Pilot will always look after you, which is why I never buy the mag anymore.
April 18, 201511 yr I really must resurrect this thread. Owning both for a short time I can say the Just Flight version is much better for hand flying. It feels a bit more believable in that aspect. I'm still learning the systems and luckily share a place with a former L-1011 driver. ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules
