February 15, 200917 yr I run FSX with 90 frames on the external shots and 50 in cockpit with the E-Jets.... Its not a difficult sim to run unless your trying to run it on a Pentium 3 machine... I by no means have a super computer. I have 4GB RAM, Video card OC'd to 100Mhz, and a E6750 OC'd to 3.2.... perfectly reasonable. Not sure why everyone wants to nail FSX to the cross, FS9 isnt the perfect engine too you know. Not too mention the advent of Air Mass effects on the airframe. Such things like water reflections, high quality textures/scenery, support for DX10 and light bloom shouldn't spark some bugs? installing SP2 fixes these for me atleast. Ive been with Flightsim for more than ten years, when FS2k, FS2k2, and FS9 came out everyone was screaming bloody murder running around like a chicken with its head chopped off. It was simple personal disappointment that they couldnt run the "new" sim so somehow there must be something wrong with it... Its the same Every release, just watch, when FS11 comes out, everyone will be saying "FS11 is so hard to run, im sticking with FSX" Same ol' same ol'In terms of run-ability, FSX is a more superior sim than FS9 out of the box, so to expect no frame rate hit/performance issues, is a silly thing to think. The only thing i have to say is its good its hard to run for many, it means this sim will be here for many many years...This is my opinionI feel really bad for the ACES Employees, more so than the fear FS, might be dead. I believe Mr. R on the subject, its very true that much of this gobbly goop is nothing more than speculation and unsupported fear... The FS franchise may be dead, it is possible, but even if it is, there are a plethora of developers that would code a new bare bone sim of which it had nothing in it but the basic engine, and a simply install of Active Sky, REX, GEX and a few payware planes would populate all the bare landscapes and textures. Heck, half of us here wouldn't notice if we went to your house and removed all the default textures on your sim... you simply have everything covered by third party developers. Its fact that half the time spent on FS is spent creating the textures and scenery. If someone were to code an FS, why not save yourself time and let the community fill the gaps.. SO no matter what happens, there will always be someone or something out there that would be willing to code a new FS whether bare bone or not to make a buck pr two, especially with the exuberant size of our community.
February 16, 200917 yr Windows Vista was such a disaster that Microsoft terminated about 98 % of the Team who worked on it... Source-- Microsoft employees !When FSX was released customer's bought the product with the hope that they were buying the "next great thing,"the newest Flight Simulation software," etc. etc. But when people started using it, the reaction was the same (or worst) than when what Windows Vista has been. Now, Microsoft is developing a operating system Windows 7Now, Microsoft is closing the Flight Simulation dept....why? Well, eventhough they might have sold thousands of software (FSX), only a handful accepted the product itself-- yes, just a handful !!!Folks, let's face it (not contradict anyone), but what's good, let's call it good...What's bad..call it bad !!! No questions !!!Juan Gonzalez (John)John, Vista is not a disaster, if you use like I do have all updates etc it works just fine. Better than xp in my opinon. It has much better options and is more stable.I used to think the same about vista, but now I'm using it I love it would never go back. (btw I don't work for Microsoft!)Michael

Well done :( I like Vista and I love FSX. I would never go back to the oldies XP and FS9, so "face it" but keep us informed what's good and what's bad! :(
February 18, 200917 yr Robert makes an excellent point with regard to the perception that acceptance equals sales. :( It should be noted that while we did not receive the "personal brief"on ESP, we and other devs were "in the know" quite early on and we agree that ESP showed promise.Early after the bad news about Aces, Eaglesoft decided to cut to the chase, eliminate speculation, and state that we would simply continue to build for both FS9 and FSX.We do have an "ear to the ground" as it pertains to the future but meanwhile, we and others, must continue on current development paths in order to provide content for those who appreciate the viable platforms we have today :(
February 19, 200917 yr FS9 and, especially FSX, will still live for many years to come. Many of us are not even close to use FSX to its full potential, meaning all sliders to the right, with good FPS. I think it would be good for both the consumers and the 3rd party developers, such as PMDG, that the release of new versions of Flight Simulator will stop for a while. This will make the next few years, much more predictable for all of us. Additionally, we also have some fantastic 3rd party developers out there that will continue to improve on FSX, even though Microsoft has given up. What worries me, though, is that the next version of Flight Simulator, when it finally arrives, will take shape in a more "game-like" way. This can split and, in many ways, kill our small flight sim community. I do feel for the people at Aces, though, who got laid off in these already difficult times. What actually makes me more sad, is how they killed (for the second time, and I'd be surprised if there will be a third) MS Train Simulator 2. This was the most interesting, and maybe even revolutionary, non-flightrelated simulator in development, with its "world on rails" and all. I was really looking forward to give this one a good try :( Anyway, thank you for your insight, Robert. It's good to see that PMDG does not follow in Microsoft's footstep and shuts down its business. I look forward to your upcoming projects.RaymondNorway Raymond Bergseng ENGM ________________________________ Asus P6T WS Professional, Intel Core i7 980X 3.33GHz (OC to 3.8), Zalman CNPS9700 NT CPU cooler, 12 GB OCZ Platinum XTC DDR3 1600MHz, EVGA GeForce GTX 580 "Superclocked Edition" 797MHz 1536MB, M-Audio Fast Track Ultra external USB soundcard, WD VelociRaptor 300GB SATA discs, Cooler Master Stacker nVidia Edition w/850W PSU, Dell UltraSharp 24" LCD, Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Logitech Ultra X Premium Keyboard, MX 518, Saitek Yoke and Rudder.
February 19, 200917 yr Well, eventhough they might have sold thousands of software (FSX)FSX has sold over a million copies and counting, its only the FS9 die-hards that think FSX is a failure, you really do need to broaden your horizons, pun intended. I get 25 to 30 frames a second on the ground at UK2000's latest release "Heathrow Xtreme" with 50+ AI aircraft on the ground and over 200 in the reality bubble, this is with a Q6700 CPU at 3.2Ghz, 4Gb RAM, Vista 64 and a HD 4870 512 GPU, oh yes and 1.2M photo scenery too. When I'm at Flight Levels I get frame rates in excess of a 100. I'm really happy with FSX I'll be flying it for many years to come, until something better comes along. Cheers, Andy.
February 23, 200917 yr Commercial Member That is accurate - FSX actually outsold FS9 by quite a lot. We've sold more MD-11s for FSX than we have for FS9 by a 2:1 margin too. A vocal minority is still a minority folks... Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
February 23, 200917 yr Ryan, thats a shocking statistic.... and i know almost every MD11 aircraft i watch on http://www.vacc-sag.org/?PAGE=sag_tv are FSX... its pretty amazingAndy, your getting killer frames as well? glad someone out there is sharing my wonderful experience with FSX. I get 30 frames at JFK with FSDT scenery and the Wilco ERJ, all sliders to the Right in terms of texture, and autogen set to a pretty high level. I get 100+ frames in cruise with the Wilco ERJ at 1600/1200. Im VERY happy with FSX, and the only crash ive ever gotten was E-Jets related (i hit the import FS flightplan button... stupid Wilco)

It shows better than 2:1 of simmers favour FS9 over FSX for use with airline addons. Alex Reid

A vocal minority is still a minority folks...I'm not surprised you're selling more FSX MD11's than FS9. Even though I own both FSX and FS9 I would never "waste" money buying add-ons for FS9. IMO FS9's time is over. I'm surprised that AirSimmer have chosen to release their A320 for FS9 first. Maybe that made sense a year ago but since then many people have switched to FSX. I imagine AirSimmer will be quite disappointed at the sales of their FS9 version UNLESS they include FSX version for free. Also let me say, the PMDG products are so good that I will buy anything thing you release for FSX, no questions asked! February 26, 200917 yr FS9 add-ons are getting thin on the ground now, that's why FS9 die-hards are screamin 'n' shoutin so the developers dont forget about them, to be honest FS9 has been done to death add-ons wise and there really isn't much money left in the FS9 market for average developers to risk working towards. Some developers are going under even after developing for FSX with its bigger market share. FEX weather engine and airport textures anyone, they may not have officially announced a closure but I personally don't think we will ever see the rest of what we paid for when we purchased FEX. Cheers, Andy.
