Those aren't ideas. They don't work for the recording industry.
I was being polite towards you -- I said that I was sorry that your un-named software was pirated, and you responded with sour-grapes. So what are your ideas since mine are not?If the music industry sold all media online, and CD's ceased to exist, the people (musicians, song-writers, editors, and producers) that make up the music industry would go on strike in minutes.Do not respond negatively to someone who is trying to be thoughtful and helpful. It is not my fault, nor the fault of the average person posting in this thread, that you are angry at the world. If this is how you respond -- why should anyone want to communicate with you? brando

I think you're the one who's posts are repeatedly negative. LOLAs I stated... your idea wouldn't do squat for the music industry... what on earth makes you think it would work elsewhere? You're still hung up on the concept that we need to reduce the prices based on age... as soon as I see the music industry do this... I'm onboard. Fair enough?

The days of FS9 are probably not numbered for me. I just bought a new system that should rip right through FSX, but instead I suffer from stutters and blurries despite the countless hours I've spent tweaking. There won't be a need to tweak FS9, just push all the sliders right and fly. I just wish I could get those nice ground textures at low altitudes, but I guess I have to give a little to get a lot.

FS9 will never be outnumbered for me! :( PMDG has already made the addons that would ever want for FS9. The PMDG 737, 747, and the MD-11, are just great aircrafts to fly! You can almost never get bored flying with these!I also have the PSS A320 and I am extremely happy with all my addons. Same thing goes for Aersoft sceneries, I am very happy as I have all of Spain with detailed airports. Remember that when you're cruising in real life, you can't see that well the ground and its detail. So who cares if the ground textures aren't as amazing. What matter is the airport, and mainly, the FLYING!!! After PMDG released their MD-11, I have fallen in love with the MD-11. I have spend countless hours flying the PA A320 merged with the PSS A320 and the PMDG 737 all through Europe enjoying every single flight!!!The MD-11 is wonderful airplane to fly, and it's my favorite addon now since this is the most realistic addon I have ever seen for FS2004. That said, I have flown many times with the KLM MD-11 and I have always enjoyed flying the MD-11. THANKS PMDG!!! It is just a fabulous addon, an addon recommended to every simmer out there!!! Now I don't fly virtually, not that I hate it, but I just fly normally with default ATC and still enjoy my flying. I have made several youtube videos about my flying in www.youtube.com/user/A320royaltyI am very satisfied with FS9 and I currently wait now for the Airsimmer A320 which is about to come out soon being one the most realistic aircrafts ever made for FS2004, in the same way PMDG made their MD-11 and ARIANE made their 737 NG. I only fly the PMDG MD-11 and 737 NG, and the PSS A320 with the PA A320 and PA A319 for now, but I am extremely happy :( But when the Airsimmer comes out for FS9, there will be nothing more I will want for FS9 because I will have everything I need.!!!!CHEERS!!!

But when the Airsimmer comes out for FS9, there will be nothing more I will want for FS9 because I will have everything I need.!!!!
And that is precisely why developers are doing everything they can to move people over to FSX. There's just not much left that can be developed for FS9 and FS9 simmers are reluctant to buy new addons, as they barely have time to fly the ones they already own.

Cheers,

Mack

There is still a lot to be developed for FS9, particulary in the aircraft department. While the modern glass cockpit airliners are mostly there, the same can't be said about the classic jets. So far I haven't seen any sophisticated/up-to-date DC-10, L-1011, DC-8, DC-9, 720B, CV880(M), CV990(A) or A300B2/B4-200, these girls deserve to be done in detail.Another thing, how in the world would the release of yet another 737NG for FSX only, mean the end of FS9?The FS9 version is still heralded as one of the best things since sliced bread, so why the need for yet another version of it? When there are still a lot of deserving aircraft that haven't been done in detail (freeware or payware)

You need to go over to HJG; more than enough classic airliners to suit you, and for free. simviation.com/hjg Mike

I think in your mind that you believe you are the authority on how this should work but you give zero ideas. Since you stated my ideas were not ideas, I asked you in a kind fashion for your ideas. You gave zero ideas. So, Yeah, I'm the negative guy. :( You completely mis-understood my post on the music industry. However, since you state my idea for the music industry would not work (which it does), logic denotes that you must have an idea to counter. So let's have it.The music industry has reduced prices -- Therefore would you like me to give you a list of albums/CD's that have been reduced in price since they were originally released? Would you like for me to tell you how the music industry is cutting costs to lower the cost of the final product you see on store shelves or online stores? Take your pick and I will deliver.brando

I've been in the software industry since what one might call "day one". Long, long time. Piracy has never, ever been stopped by pricing. It never will be. Software isn't something that depreciates, it never has, it never will. If you go out and purchase a commercial level simulator that was created 5yrs ago... it's price won't be lower today than it was when first created. When you see a price reduction in a store, it's not the publisher or the distributor that's cutting the price of the software... it's the store doing so.According to the recording industry... they're suffering because of piracy. I'd say that proves that any concept of price reduction has no impact. Unless you're willing to state that the recording industry is lying? :( The only way piracy of software gets reduced is via stringent copy protection. Absolutely nothing else has worked.

Ed:I respectfully submit that you are totally wrong on multiple levels here.1) Software ABSOUTELY DOES DEPRECIATE irrespective of what the retailer does or doesn't do. For example, Windows 3.1 is not worth its original price. MSFS 5.1 is not worth its original price. A Boeing 707 full motion simulator is not worth its original price. The reason is because software is dependent on the current state-of-the-art to gauge its worth. Once the state has moved past the usefullness of the software (or hardware for that matter), the price is lowered to clear out inventory at its fair market value. The retailer hopes not to be stuck with a warehouse full of obsolute software after all is said and done and the software becomes worthless. The fair market value is driven by the market's willingness to bear its cost regardless of what the developer thinks, and the market will not pay full price for obsolete software (except here in the flight simulator market), no matter what the developer things it's worth. So, Windows 3.11 is virtually worthless, but Windows 7 Ultimate is worth $199.00. When PMDG releases 737NGX, the previous PMDG 737 offering will become obsolete and thereby worthless to the market. Software is a commodity and loses value, period.2) Stringent copy protection as a cure for piracy? Absolutely not. Every single popular piece of software if protected by varying levels of protection....and every single piece of software is available for download for free at your favorite peer-to-peer site should you so choose. Its gotten to the point that the more stringent the copy protection, the more proud the pirate is of cracking it. The only ones bothered by 'stringent copy protection' is the consumer when he/she gets accidently locked out of their product or loses a license key or must reinstall and must beg or pay for another copy or license key...the pirates don't seem to have this problem. This is the same warped thinking as gun control, where people think that banning guns will somehow lower crime...HELLO?! Criminals don't get gun permits but somehow tend to have bigger guns than the police! Heck, the guys at The Pirate Bay have just been convicted of aiding software piracy by Swedish courts, and for every 10 Pirate Bay's you close, 20 more pop up.Software developers that don't prepare for the FACT that their software will be pirated are fools in denial. When somone invented books, someone else invented plagerism . When somone invented radio and records, someone else invented the cassette tape and made free copies of the music. When man invented software, someone invented the 'copy' command. When man invented copy protection and intellectual property laws, someone else invented China where they use those laws to wipe their butts.

The music industry has nothing to do with the software industry. Songs are timeless works of art that can be passed from generations over various forms of media. The best songs, composers and artists actually increase in value with time...Originals of Elvis, Mozart, The Beatles, Beethoven, are worth much more now than they were when they were first released.Software, on the other hand, has a very short shelf life. No matter how much I think that Castle Wolfenstein is a timeless work of art, I can buy it on eBay for 99 cents and not have to purchase it at the same original price of $39.99. Music doesn't get lowered in price because great music appreciates in value and has sentimental meaning. Software eventually becomes obsolete and can't even be run on the latest system (try running your favorite 16-bit DOS based game on Windows 7), meanwhile Mozart is available on vinyl, cassette, CD, MP3 or even DVD.
Reading 101: I stated that stringent copy protection was the only effective method of reducing piracy.
Reading 201: It hasn't.

I suppose FS9 add-ons will get discounted once FS9 is widely considered dead and not much before. To take advantage of some real bulk-bin prices likely FS8 is a really good choice.Something that doesn

acebrandoDo us all a favour and go away, this is a topic about fs9's days being numbered. If you want to discuss music, may I politely suggest you find a site that is dedicated to that topic.I hope this will be the end of it!!Amen
