April 6, 200917 yr But, with neither the MD11 or the J41 being a particularly popular aircraft, especially in the US (which I am going to surmise is still their largest market) it's no shock that their sales would be far less than say
April 6, 200917 yr So, let me get this straight: FS9 is dying because ..... PMDG are releasing a twin prop aircraft ...... :(Stop The Press :( Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
April 6, 200917 yr So, let me get this straight: FS9 is dying because ..... PMDG are releasing a twin prop aircraft ...... :(Stop The Press :(Lemme mix in something: FS9 is dying because most of users today are buying better and better hardware, so FSX is a good option. Every real simmer, and there are not many alike, you could probably count them inside of three-cypher number - are using FS9. It is not due to scenery or anything else. It's a fact that serious simmers, who like flying and less tweaking, are searching for smooth landings. Show me one serious simmer who likes landing into addon airport with a nice heavy PMDG/Wilco addon aircraft having 10-15fps... yuck. When we reach smooth 30-40fps at Heathrow Extreme with PMDG MD-11 and/or 747, with same addons like in FS9 (addon clouds like FE or AS - REX, Ultimate Terrain...), can we say, alright, FS9 days are numbered. If you show me today a system that can pull it fluently, I'll bite my tongue. One day, I predict in 2 years, we will all be using FSX, with minority possibly on FS9. Then FS9 days are numbered. Now for sure not. What companies like PMDG, Aerosoft and such are doing, is cutting costs and are concerned about making money. Who isn't in todays economic situation? They give a bull about "real" simmers...
April 6, 200917 yr I wish people would stop saying "FS9 is dying" ....I'm afraid those who say this should spend more time flying than on forums!FS9 is now nearly at it's best with still a way to go as developers still make better and more addons. My reason's for using FS9 have nothing to do with computing power! The FS9/FSX argument really puts me in a bashing heads together mood! :( My FS Videos
April 6, 200917 yr The reason for the fight becasue they dont fly, they think this is all about hardware and tweaks and fps.LOL!! Part of me has to admit you could well be right!Mike :(
April 6, 200917 yr The FS9/FSX argument really puts me in a bashing heads together mood! :(Ed, I'm really sorry if my post seemd as an argument. My only intention was to put out that FS9 is NOT at its end, but rather at its best peak. What we have with FSX, is a really well done simulation. I am already looking forward to using it in the future.Oh and btw... flying in FS9 almost daily, I stopped tweaking it long time ago. Only now and then searching for the reasons of unexplained crashes at some airports. And I usually find them ;)

My reason's for using FS9 have nothing to do with computing power! The FS9/FSX argument really puts me in a bashing heads together mood! :(Hi Ed,Well said!In fact, having just followed your link to your YouTube videos I have to recommend them as required viewing for all those who are currently doubting FS9's ability to run parallel with FSX in the wow department. No, I'll say that again, everyone should watch these videos - fantastic productions, a credit to their author and a real tribute to the capabilities of FS9.http://www.youtube.com/profile?gl=GB&h...amp;view=videosYou know, I have a huge and highly customized FS9 installation sitting relatively dormant on my hard drive since the release of its successor. My system may not be the latest and greatest but I'm now growing tired of the mostly wasted time spent battling with FSX. Sure it's prettier to look at and the air dynamics are more realistic, or so I'm told, but, unlike FS9, you can't fly anywhere in the world with all sliders blazing without having to worry about performance. Time, I think, to return to the nirvana that was/is FS2004 ACOF. Doubtless I will continue to dip into FSX from time to time, we'll see. Meantime, I don't see why I should have to upgrade my hardware, yet again, when what I have right now copes admirably with everything else thrown at it. Trouble is those Intel chips are so much faster than AMD and there are those who like to continually remind us of the fact. I'm still on XP Home 32bit and proud of it! Stable, reliable and now relatively hassle free! Thanks Ed!Regards,Mike :)ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 (AM2CPU Board), AMD Athlon 64X2 6400+ (BE,3200MHz,Windsor),Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro, 2GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 PC2-6400 4-4-4-12(2T) (Dual Channel), NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB (DDR3) (ForceWare 182.08 WHQL), Samsung SyncMaster 226BW 22" LCD Display Monitor (1680x1050x32), SB Audigy2 ZS Platinum (Drivers version 5.12.0001.1196 WHQL), Western Digital Caviar SE16 (WDC WD5000AAKS-65YGA0) SATAII, 16MB Cache, 500GB + Hitachi Deskstar (HDP725050GLAT80) UDMA-6 / ATA133, 7MB Cache, 500GB, ASUS DRW-1608P2S Optical Drive, Antec P150 case with NeoHE 650W PSU, CH Products USB Yoke, Pedals and Fighterstick, Creative Gaming Headset HS-900, TrackIR Pro ver. 4.1 (build 35) with TrackClip Pro, Logitech MX1000 Laser Mouse, Windows XP Home Edition (SP3), DirectX 9.0c
April 6, 200917 yr I just built a new machine and for the first time I can run FS9 with the sliders mostly all to the right. It is fantastic. I don't get stutters even with high AI traffic levels and no BSDs, I have loads of payware aircraft and scenery, and I run ActiveSky, Radar Contact, vmsFMC (when necessary) via Wide FS off an ancient 486 PC. With this system I can see things in FS9 which I never knew were there. I see no reason to upgrade to FSX and am busy buying up FS9 addons before they disappear off the virtual shelves. Not only that, but I still have my old FS2002 disks, lots of FS2002 addons, some of them still in their boxes waiting their chance to show what they can do.If all new FS development stopped tomorrow I have enough to keep me happy with flight simulation till the end of my days. And that, I guess, is the problem. John
April 6, 200917 yr Very interesting thoughts here. I just switched from FSX to FS9 for the performance gain. When I got into simming I went with FSX as I wanted the latest and (thought to be) greatest offering from Microsoft. After years of frustration and spotty performance I switched to FS9 and have been very very happy. I usually get my addon's in options where I can get the FS9 AND FSX versions because I know someday the technology will be out there to run FSX at an acceptable level.Right now there is no comparison. Regardless of aircraft complexity I cant run FSX at the same levels of FS9 using addons such as GEX, UTX, and AI Traffic at or near 100%. And my machine is by no means old. It's a Q9450 w/ 4GB of memory running on 64bit Windows 7. My graphics card is the oldest piece in my system, but a 8800GTS (640MB) is by no means old.FS9 locks in nice and smooth at ~30FPS. FSX will sometimes hit 20FPS but I can come to a crawl at 6FPS in some areas. The jerkyness is TOO much!!No, I'm not a tweak or FPS junkie. I am for smoothness and right now FS9 delivers that with a ton of addons. FSX can...in some areas...and sometimes with certain features turned down or off.Anyway, I think especially since there is no FS11 in sight, FS9 is not on its twilight run, but holding steady. April 6, 200917 yr I've been one of the lucky ones. My FS9 still works just as well as it did before FSX was released. :( There are still older FS9 addons I haven't gotten into yet. Maybe not new, but "new to me". Imaginesim just came out with KSJC for FS9. Can't wait to try that out. Honestly, the next PC I build will probably still be as an FS9 rig. 30 fps is a must for me. ------------------------- Craig from KBUF
April 6, 200917 yr Honestly, the next PC I build will probably still be as an FS9 rig. 30 fps is a must for me.I believe there won't be a rig build until hardware capable of 30fps for FSX comes out - and I start reading about excellent performance with all sliders right + addons on these forums.
April 6, 200917 yr Could someone please point me to specific phrase that says that PMDG 737NG 2.0 will NOT be developed for FS2004? As far as I'm aware PMDG is looking forward for dual-platform release. 9950X3D, X870E ROG CROSSHAIR HERO, Corsair Dominator Titanium 64GB DDR5-6000 PC5-48000, ASUS RTX 5070Ti 16GB, 9100 PRO 4TB Samsung ,990 PRO 4TB Samsung, AX1600i 1600 Watt 80 Plus Titanium ATX, ASUS 360 ARGB EXTREME 360mm Liquid CPU Cooling Kit.
April 6, 200917 yr FSX is VERY GOOD in terms of VFR flights. Terrain SDK is perfect and this is the primary reason why you see so many FSX terrain and photoscenery products. However, from the standpoint of commercial airline pilot/simmer, FSX is one big joke. 9950X3D, X870E ROG CROSSHAIR HERO, Corsair Dominator Titanium 64GB DDR5-6000 PC5-48000, ASUS RTX 5070Ti 16GB, 9100 PRO 4TB Samsung ,990 PRO 4TB Samsung, AX1600i 1600 Watt 80 Plus Titanium ATX, ASUS 360 ARGB EXTREME 360mm Liquid CPU Cooling Kit.
April 6, 200917 yr The death of FS9 has been foretold since BEFORE FSX came out, and I must say that it is doing pretty well for a corpse ...Flightsimming is not only about the platform - the blood, sweat and tears that went into each addon is what counts for me.If you add up that sum total of creativity and passion available for FS9 it beats FSX by a huge amount simply due to the fact that it has been around longer!Eventually FSX will catch up (of course), but since so many developers both free- and payware are still working on FS9 that is going to take a long time. And FS9 will not suddenly be past it then ...For me this means we are spoilt for choice: we have two sims which are good for many years to come!So here's to FS past-and-present! :( :( Sascha Rieger | EVO Developer What is EVO • How to get Evo 2016 • FS9 Evolution Forum
