June 9, 200916 yr Hi Everyone,I'm about to begin testing FSX with my new setup. I'm using Windows 7 R/C - 64bit.Just a quick look at my hardware: An I7-975 Processor, 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 Corsair 7-8-7-20 2000mhz memory, 300gb 10,000 rpm hard drive, BFG 285 Video Board.A quick look at my software: FSX, FSX Service Packs 1 & 2, FSGenesis All Mesh Available, Ultimate Terrain X All Available, Ground Environment X, Real Environment Extreme, Level-d 767-300ER, Ultimate Traffic II.FSX Setup Screen Shots----------------------------Just a quick shot over Manhattan, even with all that cloud cover I'm getting excellent FPS (77.6). More importantly, smooth performance. I uploaded this screen shot because its my first one with FSX and I thought it looked incredible.I want to upload video as well. I'm using FRAPS but the file size is over 6 gig, is there a way to convert these AVI files?. If so, is there software that works with Windows 7?.Thanks Former Beta Tester - (for a few companies) - As well as provide Regional Voice Set Recordings Two: AMD-9950X | One: AMD-7950X3D | Three: Asus TUF 4090s | Three: 64GB DDR5 RAM 6000mhz | Three: Cosair 1300 P/S | Three: 990Pro 2TB NVME One: Eugenius ECS2512 - 2.5 GHz Switch | Three: Ice Giant Elite CPU Coolers | Three: 75" 4K UHDTVs | One: Boeing 737NG Flight Deck
June 9, 200916 yr Come on.... get those sliders up! :( Set your Mesh Complexity to max, Mesh res to 10m, Texture res to 7cm. You should also be able to max out your scenery complexity and most likely be able to bump up the autogen as well. The AI traffic settings do nothing anymore as the traffic levels are controlled in the UT2 interface now. AS far as your video question I use VirtualDub. Here is a link with some good info on how to get the fraps files down to a more manageable size.http://www.grrr.co.za/index.php?option=com...s&Itemid=67Good Luck and have fun with that system! :( Jim Wenham
June 9, 200916 yr Author Hi jwenham,Ok, I made those changes, did you see anything else?.BTW, thanks for the info on VirtualDub, I'll take a look. June 9, 200916 yr Author Hi djt01,Not sure if this is what your talking about, but here is a shot further away from the aircraft. The FPS show 42.2. The screen shot has been reduced from 1600x1200x32 to 800x600x32. June 9, 200916 yr Author Hi,It is set to Dense. I tried to do a video, but it didn't work. Not sure if this has something to do with Windows 7. I'll keep trying, the talkoff out of KJFK at dusk was incredible. That looks perty darn good. What is the autogen at in that shot? :( Former Beta Tester - (for a few companies) - As well as provide Regional Voice Set Recordings Two: AMD-9950X | One: AMD-7950X3D | Three: Asus TUF 4090s | Three: 64GB DDR5 RAM 6000mhz | Three: Cosair 1300 P/S | Three: 990Pro 2TB NVME One: Eugenius ECS2512 - 2.5 GHz Switch | Three: Ice Giant Elite CPU Coolers | Three: 75" 4K UHDTVs | One: Boeing 737NG Flight Deck
June 9, 200916 yr Hi Mike,Congratulations are in order. Hopefully, I'll be there within 10 days. I'll be getting the i7-975 among other things. June 9, 200916 yr Author Hi,I set the frame rate to unlimited just for testing to see what I'm getting, although the numbers don't really matter, its the smoothness that counts. I really don't see any difference between locked at 30 and unlimited as far a studders are concerned.I didn't like FSX's lights so I replaced them (replaced FX_2.bmp & Halo.bmp) Here is a dusk screen shot at KJFK, I think the new lights look good even without bloom. June 9, 200916 yr The i7 975 is just fantastic.I'm really impressed with how much faster FSX loads. FPS very stable at max settings.I will need to play with it after installing:UTX, GEX, & FEX. MSFS
June 9, 200916 yr Your putting up some great numbers but like you said its all about the smoothness. What I want to see is what your frames look like once you get some add-ons running. I'm talkin GEX, UTX, REX, and some payware airport w/ traffic, and flying a Level-D 767 or PMDG MD-11. To me that is the ultimate test. I could be wrong and you might have some add-ons installed already but it looks vanilla to me. Christopher Edwards

June 10, 200916 yr Author Hi,The only thing missing from your list that I don't have installed just yet are airports and the PMDG MD-11. Once I'm happy with my settings I'll move up to the Level-D. Keep in mind I have not overclocked my CPU yet, so things will only get better. My FSX settings are set as per the screen shots above, everything else is setup as per Nick's guide.
