Wow! I could not afford to lose my current job and have to do that stuff for a living. I would be taken back to extremes.

Seen it. I'm going anyway, and nobody's changing my mind. I know too many failed airline pilot's that wish they hadn't left... Of course I also know too many that tell me to stay the hell away.

Being a lawyer sucks so much the only reason anyone would ever do it is for the money. I guess if the job is enjoyable in itself, more people are willing to do it for a lot less money.I don't see many people playing MicroSoft Legal Sim. "As real as it gets! You must first defend us in an anti-trust lawsuit by the United States government before you can use the software!" Add-ons: Abacus' Worst Clients Collection, featuring Murder Defendant With Swastika Tattooed On Forehead For Extra Jury Appeal; Meth Dealer With Crazy Sister (slight bug, no way to turn off); bonus 47 Public Defender Clients with "I'm gonna get a real lawyer" sound set, and of course, the "Oprah / Nancy Grace Pretrial Publicity Package." Aerosim could come out with "26th and California, Chicago," scenery, and, of course, the "Tamms SuperMax Complete With Execution Chamber." Then there could be Law Sim Hot Seat where you can be accused of 20 different realistic ARDC complaints ranging from "My Lawyer Doesn't Answer My Phone Calls to My Lawyer Doesn't Answer My Mail."Finally, you could start your flight on any point of the Client Appreciation Curve, from the beginning "I'm in big trouble, I'm glad I have such a great laywer," through "My lawyer wasn't bad, and I got off, but I wasn't that guilty anyway," and ending with "that blood sucking jerk stole my money and the state would have dismissed that case if he hadn't messed it up." Actually, there are public defenders making not a whole lot more than the salaries quoted in that clip, and after seven years of college.

Just make sure you have one of these things backing you up if you are supporting kids....1. A rich wife (Not a rich girlfriend, cause she will leave you after your first 6 weeks on reserve as a new hire)2. A Rich family3. Lots of money saved up from your previous jobThe majors are at roughly 5000 to 6000 hours turbine time for a non ex military pilot to even get them to keep your resume outa the trash can. And considering the upcoming defense cuts, the market will be flooded with ex MAC and Tactical pilots finishing thier military commitment.JB

Tim,I've only exchanged a few ideas with you on AVSIM, but I can truthfully say you have a good sense of humor. Legal Sim??? Why not? I think something like that could almost be addicting to play out different scenarios in a court room. I would honestly love to fly CRJs or Dash 8s. I just could not sustain my family lifestyle and debts I currently have on that sort of pay alone. I do have a good friend who flew KC-10s for about 8-10 years and got out of the Air Force to be a stay home mother. She could have gone commercial if she wanted to, but one day she felt like flying as a profession again and got hired by SkyWest Airlines flying CRJ-200s. So yes a second income could help as well. So definitely for the love of flying, but it's not at the right time for me anymore. Keith

Now that I think about it, you probably could actually do a pretty decent sim. Certainly of the practice building / management. Then you would have to accept or reject cases, set fees, etc. (Think Air Hauler.) Detailed information about cilent's circumstances, family, etc would go into these decisions. You would have a sanity and health meters that you have to keep at a certain point, or performance would degrade, and certain clients and kinds of cases, bills, etc. would lower that. Flight simming would raise it. Then for the cases, you would have to pick themes and your theory from an options list, witnesses, etc. Trial would be another series of choices with an objection button, followed by choices for specifics (fourth amendment, argumentative, hearsay, etc.) Jury picking is another thing you could have a lot of fun with. Do you spend your budget on an investigator or a mitigator, or skimp and try both? What about expert witnesses? DNA reports would be like complex approach plates only there would be loci instead of intersections. It could be very entertaining and true to life. Much would be done right on the computer screen like it was a real office. In court, the "panel" would be counsel table, and view switches would be Witness Box, Jury with a little scale under each one for Interest, Alertness, etc. Judge (who randomly dozes off) would be another view. Make the wrong objection and your Credibility Rating goes down.OPTION: Have client try on glove? (Yes) (No). RESULT: Uh oh, fits perfectly.WITNESS: Victim's Mother. OPTION: Style of cross examination (A) Aggressive -- I'll tear her down so the jury won't believe her... RESULT: Witness bursts into tears, Jury now wants to not only sentence defendant to death, but you, too. Then of course, there would be the realistic completely random "verdict" at the end. If you lost (or won, if you were the prosecutor) the final scene would take you to the execution, and your Reputation Rating would go down. Appeals would be handled by AI -- there's nothing remotely entertaining about that. The JAG version would be compatible with Flight Simulator.Okay, I'll help if someone programs it. But it would be like Call of Cthulu where you end up insane at the end no matter what. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

To some extent a drop in wages for pilots from what it used to be is justified, although I certainly don't think dropping them to the levels they have been at recently is a good idea. Thirty years ago, the airlines had a constant source of highly skilled and experienced pilots coming to them, in the form of people leaving the military. These were people with 5,000-plus hours in their log books and all of that time flying under a great deal of discipline, which tended to make for very good airline pilots. With the Cold War gone, there is nought but a trickle of such pilots coming to the airlines, and you can hardly blame the airlines for not wanting to pay some newbie with 500 hours on twins the same kind of cash as they would have thrown at a guy that had been hauling a C-130 around in all weathers for five or ten years.Thirty or more years ago it required a good deal more practical skill and knowledge to safely fly an airliner than it does these days, and we can see that ourselves in a sim by nothing more probing than to load up realistically modeled B-17 or Stratocruiser, or even a 707, and then compare flying it to loading up a 737 NG and pressing TOGA, LNAV and VNAV.That said, although the practical piloting skills required may be less, the responsibility placed on the crew's shoulders has in no way diminished, and in fact if anything it has become greater, since what would be regarded as a 'starter' regional aircraft carries the numbers of passengers a four-engined propliner would have done fifty years ago.You definitely have to want to do the job for the love of it these days, and there are many jobs with similar strings, but I do think that the wages pilots get should not discount the responsibility when it comes to pay cheques, even taking into account the fact that it has got easier from a skill standpoint. Like nurses, when doing your job incorrectly can involve killing someone, you ought to get the kind of money that reflects that level of responsibility.Al

Eheheh...Marco

"Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".

Pilots are some of the best payed professionals there are. The tough is is tough, I know. But really. Regionals are literally looked at, for the most part, as a means to get to the majors.Edit: Call me Captain Obvious
