Hello All,I was wondering if any of you use REX and what your thoughts were on it. How is the perfomance? Also, I know REX is for enhancing the environment - but is there an add-on program that enhances the default ground textures? Thanks,Blake

REX is awesome, version 2.0 will be released on August 3, best money I have spent on fsx, GEX (Ground environment X) is the best I have seen for ground texture's

I agree. Rex 1.0 is pretty awesome and 2.0 will be even better. Rex made the biggest difference of all the addons. Their support staff is really good in case you run into any issues. Here is a decent video:
Make sure to watch in HD.

Hi Blake,Yes, REX is awesome indeed, but I should say please wait till next week when we see the differences between version 1 and 2.Not only the clouds are fantastic, even the water effects are. Besides about groundtextures, there are a lot of possible runwaycolors. I suppose you already seen it. I wouldn't change for AS, especially for the graphics.

Hi, all.IMO both REX and its support are excellent. It worth the money. Its price is very reasonable for the quality of the product. My only problem is to choose which of the many options of ground/sea and skies is the most beautiful.RegardsSchmid

Is a FS9 version in the works? Just wondering. The screenshots I have seen in the VATSIM screenshot forums are very sharp and clean.RegardsRichie

Hi Richie,Yes, there is a FS9 version in the work. I don't know how far Tim and Reed are with it.But the release of version 2 (free update for their customers) has priority. Also don't forget that there will be some time for possible support for ver. 2 after release next Monday. For more information and screenshots, take a look at http://realenvironmentxtreme.com/forum/index.php?board=14.0Best regards,

REX: Absolutely without doubt one of the best add-ons for FSX there has ever been, and all the better for a having a decent price and good support. If ever there was a no brainer decision, it's on the REX website where the 'buy now' button is.Al

I have FEX and ASA. Been waiting for REX 2 for a long while. Sounds like its almost time to switch to REX. Poor credit card :(

Are the REX claims about performance impact accurate? That is to say: No impact to actual improvement in performance?-Greg

Probably, I don't own REX (yet) but I do own FEX and you get nicer textures without any performance impact.

It can actually improve performance believe it or not. I think that's because there is a lot of control over the resolution of the cloud textures you can choose to load into FS, and if you pick the low res ones (which still look better than the default stuff), then it does actually run a bit better than stock FSX. This is not the developer's claim by the way, it is what I personally have found to be the case, and is one of the reasons why I am impressed by it over and above the look of the thing, which is indeed spectacular. Frankly, it's worth it just for the better thunderstorms in my opinion. What also impresses me, is that when you use REX to load in the weather from a downloaded METAR, it does a much better job of emulating the real deal from that data. I have checked this numerous times by doing so at Manchester and Woodford Airports in the UK, both of which are less than ten miles away from me in real life, and so I know that the METARs from those weather reporting stations are going to be pretty much what is over my house at the time. There is also a UK Met Office station in my home town less than five miles away from my home which contributes to those METARs as well as the one in Manchester about ten miles away, so if anywhere is going to have an accurate METAR, it is where I live! When I load up weather with REX, and compare what is on screen to what I can see out of the window, it is uncannily similar, and even if I don't use the REX engine to download weather and just do it via FS, it still does a reasonably convincing job of things (albeit generally with a bit less cloud cover), because of those much improved clouds. That is what is particularly impressive. There's not much I could complain about with REX, apart from the interface not being as clear as it could be upon first acquaintance, and the current flight planner in it is really not much use either to be honest. But since there is a the free V2 update due in less than a week, which is going to address those things and more, and supposedly further improve performance too, then these are not issues I will have to live long with anyway, even if they did bother me. I'm really looking forward to seeing how things improve with REX, since it is already pretty good as it stands. It's a must have, simple as that.Al

I also notice a lot of performance gain in FSX using REX, my personal experience has become much more fun so far than it was before using REX! Leonardo Soares :(

You guys are giving me some doubt. Until now I'm using Active Sky X in combination with X Graphics. In fact I've no complaints about this combination except the program takes a lot of memory and FPS. But you get a lot in return: actual weather, gauge with weather and route information and nice textures. Reading this topic (especially about performance) and watching the very nice youtube video's I'm asking myself (and you now;-): should I stay with ASX/X Graphics or better try REX? Could someone give me advice on this?
