Airplane or Helicopter?

Featured Replies

Just a simple question... Which do you fly most often or like flying... Fixed-wing airplane or Helicopter? :( Thanks!

Fixed wing most often, but I enjoy helicopters now and then. I find them much easier to fly in FSX than FS9.

Fixed wing for me too, although I use helicopters to check out newly installed sceneries. I also find the missions in FSX where you learn to fly the helicopter a lot of fun, and I actually learned a lot of that.

Mostly fixed wing, but after I bought the new Cera 412 I have been flying it everyday. When in fixed wing for me its a toss up between a cruise around town in the RealAir SF260 or a medium length flight in the LDS767.

Helicopters about 70% of the time, been that way since FS2002. Next is GA, preferably twins and then the occasional bizjet. After trying the tubeliners a few times, decided to stay away as that type of simulation did nothing for me.

I fly both helicopters and fixed wing. Its hard to say in what proportion, I just fit the mood I'm in and probably about 50/50 over time. Most fixed wing flying is general aviation type. low and slow; also some corporate and military jet. I very seldom do heavy metal or airliner flying. When I'm exploring a new area of the world, I may go high and fast for a general survey and orientation, then go down low in helos or bush planes to explore in detail.Happy flying,GW

I fly them both. As was mentioned earlier, I find helos in FSX easier than FS9. I also like the glider! I generally prefer smaller aircraft, though. Jeff ShylukSenior Staff ReviewerASVIM

Fixed wing mostly, but helicopters are great for special sceneries like Aerosoft's Manhattan. Rotary winged aircraft don't get much attention from devs, though, compared to fixed wings, and the one time I did try a payware chopper it was a bad experience frame-wise.

I mostly sim-fly rotary-wing in FSX. The payware helicopters can't come to us fast enough. I applaud the few developers who have provided the few good helicopters. Please make more! I guess one challenge is the limited number of airframes actually produced in real-world. Even though I have only flown Bell 206B Jet Rangers in real world I gauge a good or bad flight model of rotary-wing flight more than I can with fixed-wing aircraft.I have almost all of the high-dollar fixed-wing addons that have been produced in the past couple of years and almost never really fly them. Example, I've been waiting for years for a good F-16D. I just picked up the Iris F-16D, installed it a day or so after purchase and have only sampled it once. Most of my fixed wing sim time is military or regional turboprop. My rotary wing time is mostly Bell 206, CH-46, AH-1W, or MH-6I'm hoping to get my hands/feet on a good AH-1Z for FSX.

I'm surprised that you didn't buy the Aerosoft F-16 that came out months ago. I bought it when it first came out plus the mission pack. It's a great bird and a lot of fun to fly. Especially if you need to get somewhere QUICK.

Unfortunately, it's not a D model, only A, AM and C modelsI agree with the other poster that payware helis can't come fast enough. Sure wish the nemeths had access to an AS-355, would love one of those in FSX.

Nice to see some very different answers! I personaly fly small fixed wing aircraft... and the Bell 206 as my choice of helicopter! I only really began flying helicopters once I practiced sooo much because it takes a lot of work! Thanks! And btw keep answering with who likes flying Fixed wing or Helicopters!! :D

I am still considering the Aerosoft F-16 as well. I will round out my California ANG profile for Fresno. Can anyone distinguish the sound between the GE and PW engines on the F-16? I know it might not even be really apparent but I would like to try and match up sound packages with the two different engines. You might check out F-16.net for some good stuff on the aircraft and units around the world. As far as rotary wing flight is concerned, I also spend some time with my Alphasim Blackhawks and the Aerosoft Seahawk. It would be nice to be able to swap the instrument panel between both of these.

You've mentioned this helicopter before in your posts. I bought it today. Looking forward to "getting it started". Ctrl E doesn't do it for me. Guess I'll have to find the checklist somewhere and follow it. Seems since I got my new computer and new FSX installation, everything works phenomenally well and fast! However, I am finding more of my old addon payware planes start "cold and dark" or I have great difficulty starting. Case in point the Eclipse jet! I seem to be having a hard time finding the right combination to get her started. It never was that way before. If there's a trick to getting all your planes started at default, I'd like to know that. There are times when I want to go through it all, and times when I don't. 90% of my plane stable is fine, and they all seem to start without any great difficulty.Looks like a great rotorcraft....let you know how I like it when I finally get her started.Stan

I tend to fly bizjets - at the moment the Eaglesoft CJ1 gets 90% of my attention. Waiting for the Citation X v2.... ....G
