AS 6.5/ASG vs ASA ?

Finally I'm convinced to purchase one of the apparently great AS products, but can't decide between AS 6.5/ASG and ASA. 6.5/ASG is tempting, because of the graphics included, ASA because of the many new features (e, g, snapshot etc.)I'm currently still using Chris' low def clouds and wonder if there are also some lower res and performance friendly but better looking cloud sets are included in ASG. If not, I think I

For FS9, AS 6.5 is just about bulletproof...ASA is still a real hairball for lots of us. Dual compatibility with FSX is the only reason I would even consider ASA over AS6.5 at this point.RegardsBob ScottColonel, USAF (ret)ATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VColorado Springs, CO

I have both as well, IMHO ASA produces a much more eye appealing depiction than 6.5 in most cases. I have no real problems with ASA on my machine, everything seems to work fine but it seems to take forever to finally report "initial depiction complete" where 6.5 just gets 'er done so you can go flying. In reality it's probably really not that long though, it's more a case of "watched pot syndrome" I think.Jim

Bob,I use AS6.5 for FS9 and FSX. Works great. But, AS6.5 Graphics must be disabled with FSX.

I have been using Active Sky products for many years now - I always upgrade when an upgrade is available. ASA runs well on my system and the dual compatibility is really convenient. I do have ASG but I am using REX2 for clouds, sky, water... in FSX. In FS9, I used FE, ASG and other stuff. The combination of ASA and REX2 in FSX is the best combination hands down - Quick (as quick as can be with my rig), beautiful and smooth with the low res clouds. I haven't tried the REX2 weather engine yet. When REX is available for FS9, get it just for the textures.

Just got mine (AS 6.5 /ASG) today and i can say it has absolutely change my flightsim environment. Highly Recommended for any serious flightsimmer.BTW: Could someone confirm that AS6.5/ASG has dynamic moving clouds. I noticed that at KSEA the clouds were actually MOVING!!!!!! Was that just my imagination or some weird effects???? =)

With everyone ranting about the "old" 6.5 version, have you guys checked the new features in ASA? I'm under the impression it's got quite a step up as far as interpolating weather in unreported areas and generally depicts weather more realistically. Am I right? Anywho, ASA user here, I'm extremely happy with it.

Hi Everyone,Thanks for all who have responded here.To the OP: If this is your first weather program purchase I suggest ASv6.5. It is weather program, environmental textures, and weather Radar all in one package and the learning curve is there, but it is not too steep.ASA is a weather program with many new features compared to ASv6.5 and the learning curve is a bit more steep because ASA has many more features. There is a comparison chart at our web site that might help you decide. Thanks!

I confim they are moving, incidentally that's the one thing that wows peoplenot into flightsimming "look, the clouds move just like in the real world" :( I'm using AS6.5 and I really really wish I had started using it earlier.Don't ever fly without it these days, one of the 2 best purchases I've made for FS9.The other best purchase being the Majestic Dash 8 :(cheersJP.

I have both. I recently reinstalled ASA when the final SP1 arrived and although I didn't have any major issues as before, there were still some things. Temperature problem at many airports. And I noticed clouds disappearing in front of my eyes a couple of times.Maybe ASA produces better weather, I dunno, but interface wise, although everything looks prettier, it's really a step back. Too many screens, where in 6.5 you have everything one click away. ASA is also slower and if you don't really notice better weather, as I do, then that's a step back also. Finally, especially GE Pro texture submission is automated in 6.5, in ASA you actually have to click a button. So yeah, go for 6.5. They got it right with that one and it just works! As Bob said, bulletproof.

Many thanks to everybody, who has replied! It is great to see how helpful the AVSIM community is! I have a one more question though. Are there also low resolution clouds included in the ASG texture set?BTW I think moving clouds are also depicted in FS9 default weather.Wolfgang

Hope that's sufficient.:(
