Best Hawaii Scenery?

Featured Replies

I started another topic discussing the best options for ATC add-ons, and I'm also considering making my next add-on scenery-based.However, I fly all over the place, and rarely fly the same area more than a few times, so I'm hesitant to invest in scenery for an area. But I REALLY love the views and the island hopping of the Hawaiian Islands, and can see myself spending a good deal of time there.I've been looking at MegaSceneryX Hawaii, and it looks pretty cool, but I'd like some advice. I use pretty dense autogen and sharp textures, so urban and suburban areas looks great already, but the mountains looks really bland with FSX's plain green textures on them.So anybody use MegaSceneryX Hawaii or any other Hawaii scenery? What do you think is the best way to spruce up Hawaii?

MegaSceneryX Hawaii is probably one of the best addons for FSX and I warmly recommand it.However it doesn't cover the whole islands unfortunately.

Oahu only, unfortunately, but as Dave says, it's recommended. Add to it Aerosoft's Dillingham X airport and FSDreamteam's upcoming Honolulu International, and you'll have a small but sweet island to fly.Search the file libraries here and elsewhere for Hawaii 10m mesh, freeware airport enhancements, and even, at FS Genesis, HI waterfalls!

I am using MegaSceneryX and have for sometime enjoyed the enhancement. However, the AFCADs I have are no longer aligned to the photoscenery. I have painfully re-aligned polygon textures for PHJR, and most of PHNL. My next efforts will be to align PHNG and my independent helicopter portion of PHNG to the MegaSceneryX textures. I am also eagerly awaiting the FSDreamTeam Hawaii airports. I think I saw somewhere that their release will not be just Honolulu.

If you are not limited to Hawaii you might take a look at the free Tasmania scenery - no time limit. Just seach on Tasmania scenery. The whole island only has about 10 airports but for the price, it is quite an improvement over the default. They also have an on/off switch in case you don't fly there often.Ray

I agree with MegahawaiiX for O'ahu, but you also need mesh. I use Dreamscapes mesh but FSG is good as well. You nead UTX USA for the neighbor Islands. FSG or UTX provide corrected airport locations for those that are off. There is a freeware niihauv2.zip in the libraryhttp://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=102072 you might want to look at.I don't think there are any neighbor island airport replacements for FSX that are as nice as Bill Melichar's for FS9 (still my main sim for HI).Note that if you get FSG mesh, the NW Hawaiian Islands are in the "world" product, not the "US" product. I'm not sure if there are good freeware replacements for French Frigate Shoals or Midway. Seems like I've seen some but that might be for FS9. Same for Barking Sands.scott s..

I am astonished that a complete Hawaii photoscenery package (covering the entire Hawaii-Leeward Islands chain) has yet to be released for Flight Simulator X. This archipelago is perfect for VFR flying, so why hasn't it been done???

If you get MegaSceneryX Hawaii, also download Manny's free scenery addons for it. They are excellent and augment the X scenery really well. Also, go to that Japanese site and download the GMAX rendered Honolulu made for it. Combined with all the other addons mentioned here already, Oahu will be spectacular for you.

the reason is that it is extremely hard to get good aerial photos without cloud cover over the mountains.scott s..

MegaSceneryX Hawaii is worth having.

raymar,Where is that Tasmania scenery you recommended? Here in the file library? I didn't see it. Could you tell me who the author is? A quick google search didn't return much except RTX's Australia payware package.oops. Meant FTX (Full Terrain Experience) Australia.

Another aspect that I see a lot with photoscenery is the photo-capture of aircraft parked or taxiing throughout the airport environment. I try to ignore this and focus on the good of the whole product.
