December 6, 200916 yr Thanks to a tiny bit of information from Jim Skorna at HiFi I have finally managed to achieve what I have been striving to do for years.Get a completely overcast sky all around the aircraft, looking down on a lovely white blanket of cloud. The Secret is to up the Cloud Coverage Density from 8 to 12 in FS9.CFG.It changes back to 8 every time you go into the Display menu in FS, but it is definately worth doing.Just thought I would share this bit of info, as it has been driving me mad for years, and I stumbled upon the solution by chance in a post by Jim on the ASA forums.Neil

December 6, 200916 yr From the Weather section of your FS9.cfg file: CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=8 > CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=12.Apparently. :( Neil, what is your maximum visiblity in AS? And cloud draw distance in FS9? Mike...
December 7, 200916 yr how does this compare in terms of FPS instead of checking off the 'double overcast' layer option. - Red E8500 @ 4.1 | EVGA 275GTX (overclocked) | 2x2GB Mushkin Enhanced Redline @ 1066 | Samsung 24inch LCD @ 1920x1080 |

December 7, 200916 yr Very cool info, thanks a bunch, Neil! I believe to have seen this recommendation a long time ago, but had forgotten about it. I have set my cloud draw distance from 8 to 12, just as the cloud density. I am using ActiveSky Advanced, the view really rocks now, clouds up to the horizon and solid overcast. Though I have to admit, impact on the frame rate can become very noticable at times!Still, great tip! Thanks again,Greetings,Rafael System specs: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit; Intel Core i7 3770 @ 3.40GHz; 16,0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 802MHz; 8 GB NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti (NVIDIA)

December 7, 200916 yr Hi All,If the number 12 is outside of the normal value for that line, you will need to change it each time before you start FS, as the config file is re-saved when you close FS down and any values set outside of the FS range will not be saved. Thanks!

If not, can I setup the config file the way I want it then change the attributes to make this file read only?. December 7, 200916 yr The way FS9/ASV depicts cloud cover is pretty accurate to me... All weather caps have shallow spots and areas that's really dense. Using REX tonight with ASV I got pretty good cloud coverage as far as the eye could see without hacking anything. :( FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR

December 7, 200916 yr Have you looked under the bed ?? :( Sorry C\documents and settings\user name\application data\microsoft\fs9Presuming you are on XP and a default installMarkThanks Mark,I am using Vista and I can't find that CFG file anywhere. I tried C:\Users\myaccountname\etc etc but no sign of anything like that. Should I start FS9 first?ThanksGerry
