That's ashame that it's not working for you guys. It really has made a big difference in the look of the sim for me, especially night time. I guess just like everything else, no two computes are going to react to it the same way.

You guys seeing issues, try the following:1. Be SURE to set the refresh rate correctly for your monitor as I noted in the thread2. The AA setting in this mod has been disabled to use the graphics card instead of the DX flag FSX sets with AA checked. If you are using in-game AA checked in FSX (which I don

Thanks cmpbellsjc for posting the tip on the ENB bloom mod. I actually experimented with it when it first came out but could never seem to get it configured to my liking and gave up. Thanks NickN for taking the time to post an instructional "how to" thread that allowed me to revisited this with enough confidence to get it dialed in. I set up my first couple of experimental hops tonight and all looks well. I think the night may be a little too dark for me but I am going to leave it as is for a few complete flights before I make any adjustments. Thanks again!Robert

For the night try changing the setting DarkeningAmountNight=35 to DarkeningAmountNight=30.35 was a little to dark for me at night also, but 30 seems about right. I may try 25 tonight just to see.

Just wanted to add that it's definitely been the x-factor for me in improving the sim's "realism", if you will. The effect of the exterior view brightening and darkening when looking in and out of the cockpit is simply amazing. It's as if one's pupils are adjusting naturally to the lighting. (if that makes any sense...) ;)No significant affect on frame rates and works fantastic with photoreal scenery (tileproxy) as well.I have it installed in both FS9 and FSX and love it in both (though FS9 can get too dark at times, for some reason. I'll definitely be tweaking that as per Nick's link above.

Remember the settings I posted are not like the excessive default and others I see in screenshots.. I much prefer a subtle dynamic resultAll monitors are different which is why I posted the specific values to trim. You should be able to get it trimmed withBloomPowerDay= 5-10DarkeningAmountNight= 25-40I use 35 as I find its perfect on my TFT for moonlit and non moonlit nights without editing and sets the dusk/dawn level correctly for my monitorYou might need to work with DarkeningAmountDay= but I think that one is pretty close to where it needs to be as set. Too dark and it can make things a bit too shadowed making the ground muddy, too bright and you lose the localized higher contrast compared to the lit horizon and can wash out the ground texture colors. You can tweak the Darken day/night values 'on the fly'. Once an edit is made and the ini file is resaved simply switch modes and the new settings should display. Remember each time you drop to the desktop and back, or, cycle between window and full screen the mod enables on its own and you must disable with the keysYou may find moonlit nights require a higher darken night value. I use FSWC to get rid of the excessive moonlight reflections in waterAlternate for nights: For 'very' defined and much brighter city lights and stars with darker ground and horizon, the mod will need to be disabled (shift-F12) and instead raise the contrast of the monitor in the driver control about 10-15% or so and lower the brightness about 10%. enjoy

Nick,What setting or settings in the ini can I adjust to give the spot lights like runway lights and a/c lights a little more of the bloom effect like the default FSX bloom does? I don't want the lights to be as hazy as the default FSX bloom, but a little more than what they are with the ini you posted. Thanks

You cant think of this mod like the bloom in FSX. There is a reason that bloom feature eats frames in DX9. In a nutshell, this mod functions based on altering the level of a 255-XXX pixel (white being more sensitive to the change) and the angle of a light source to it, not lighting itself. Its essentially over/under exposing the white level information, not rendered lighting or using shader passes in FSX, to create the effect which is why its not costing frames. During the day, if you use a bloom power setting of about 7-10 you will see everything that has a high level of white such as snow, clouds, aircraft surfaces, etc will become brighter in 'hot spots' with reference to the angle of the sun and change as the camera position moves. .

Just to report back, I can get it to work if I switch to windowed. The settings will stick if I switch back to full screen but if I hit f12, I have to go back to windowed to enable it. I tried all of the settings but the only thing that worked was switching to windowed.Nick, is this issue exposing any underlying issues with my settings or is it just a matter of my drivers not liking the mod?The mod seems to create a bit of lag when panning for me although it looks nice. Nonetheless, FPS remains the same. I have to limit FPS to 30 though because I am seeing wild fluctuations with unlimited. The panel is a little dark but I could probably adjust that in the .ini thoughIn the end, I like the mod but I will leave it off until I am forced to switch drivers. I'll try it again when I do.Unless of course someone has another suggestion. Thanks for all the help!BTW Nick, are you back from vacation? Did you go somewhere warm or did you just sit in front of your computer itching to answer all of our stupid questions? Based on all the help you have provided me with over the last couple months and the release of GEX Europe, I'd say you deserved some palm trees and a margarita or six.

Im still on vacation.. well, its a combination business and vacation. someone like me who walks around with the internet in their pocket for years has a hard time unplugging from everything. I log on to check things other than flight sim and I end up checking in there too. LOLI am not getting into any deep discussions or tech support. I simply saw the posts and thought I could render some assistanceMore than likely the problem is some kind of FSAA issue with the OS/drivers. In a situation like this, unless I have a system in front of me displaying the problem so I can work through the variables or at least a system with FSX/W7 on it, which I dont have with me of course, there is not a lot else I can offer at this time. I use XP x64 for a reason.. I dont deal with all the FSX issues with respect to payware planes and mods like this. I will look at W7 again when they release their next service pack but right now, I see no need to use it for FSX. XPx64 runs it smooth and cleanI do use W7 for software that does take advanatge of the advanced modern Intel features.. FSX is dumb as dirt with respect to those.

Will changing it from 7 to 10 work for things that have high levels of white work at night also?I noticed that when I originally copied your ini setting from your simforums post it was 5 and now the same post has it at 7, are there any other changes since the original post?

I changed that when I realized it was not the setting I was using. When I posted that thread I was not at my FSX system but I had a copy of the original ini file on my laptop and simply edited the changes from memory but forgot about checking the refresh rate and altering the daytime bloom which I then made a 2nd post.. and then I remembered the value I had been using and changed it to 7 from 5 in the list. Nothing else was changed. That daytime bloom setting wont change nights. There are night bloom settings I did not use because those will not change night lighting in any way. All those will do is make the white area of the dash and interior of your aircraft at night overexpose. If you set it high enough it will wash out the FSX menus too as I recall so its useless for what you want it to do.As I said, the bloom part of that mod does not change lights in FSX regardless of their color.

Oh, I got it. I though if the lights were whitish in color they would be effected by the bloom as well like snow, clouds, and aircraft surfaces. Thanks for clearing that up. I will just leave it as is.I will try the level 7 setting though since I still have it on 5 from your original post. Thanks again for posting your ini config. Seems like you nailed the settings pretty well to give a good overall look without being too overbearing or fake looking.

no problem. I like it too because I really prefer early and late day flying in which those settings fix the lousy light issuesMake sure you have the GEX Europe 101 update installed. The settings were made based on that 700MB update being applied... If you have not installed it, click the Updates button in the interface and follow the directions at the top of the GEX forum.
