Just tried the ENB Bloom mod, WOW

I have been hearing and reading various tidbits regard that ENBseries HDR Bloom dll, and while I am not one to tinker with things I don't know much about I came across a thread over at simforums written by NickN, who explains the mod and has a list of the settings he uses. At first I was not sure if I wanted to install this because I have a pretty clean install of FSX and am not currently having any problems, however when I saw that all you have to do is drop the dll and the ini file into the main FSX folder, I though I would give it a go.Downloaded the pack with the link NickN provides, copied his settings into the ini and fired up FSX. What a difference it has made and on my rig, not any performance loss at all. The best part however is that night flying is now more like actual night flying. With Nicks settings night was actuall a tad to dark for me, so I lowered his DarkeningAmountNight=35 to DarkeningAmountNight=30, and it is just right, imho.On a moonless night there is no more visible horizon like before and the airports dont stick out so easily. In fact, when you are landing at night on a runway with no center line lights, it actually looks like you are flying into a black hole in the ground. Reminded me of the first night lessons I took with an instructor years ago.I noticed that with night being so much darker, when you are flying away from a city and there are not many lights on the ground it is quite easy to become disoriented since the horizon is not visible. The day time looks really good as well, but I am more sold on the night time. Best free mod I have used in a while, plus you can easily turn it on and off at will using the Shift + F12 key, and if you need to uninstall you just delete the ini and dll file and your done.If you haven't had a chance to give it a shot its worth a try. Nicks settings are posted here: http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=32482

You're not trying to run it in DX10 Preview mode are you? DX9 ONLY.

Nope, DX9

It can be fickle on different systems. I was one of the early adopters and posted on it in the original thread. However, it no longer works for me. I lose AA and there is a performance loss. I'm using new drivers and a new NHancer from what I was using with the mod so that might be the explanation. I don't think I want to go back since FSX is running real well now.It can be demanding on some systems. Just experiment with it for awhile and see. It makes quite a difference when it works.Randall

Jeff, weren't you the one that was having some sound issues as well? I think I saw a post of yours in the hardware section about sound problems. I noticed that you also have an Asus mobo. To make a long story short, my Asus mobo came with a Soundmax audio device which was causing me sound problems and also graphic problems like the black verticle lines and disappearing textures on planes. I replaced it with a SB sound card about two weeks ago and I no longer have the black verticle lines or the texture problems, and of course the sound problems have vanished. I ran the DPCLat tool which measured spikes or latency issues with my SoundMax and I was getting a lot of really high readings. Put the new card and everything is normal now. Seems like Asus mobos have an issue with some of the audio devices.Using the bloom mod doesn't cause any graphic anomalies for me now.

I have the same problem, after I got the computer tweaked by FS-GS I can't use the mod for FSX, however for FS9 on the same computer it works just fine.Do you have HDR lighting enabled in your nhancer settings? What I like best about the mod are the color correction settings, you can use it to make bland patches of megascenery much more vibrant.

Thanks. I downloaded that tool and I didn't see any issues. I can't say that I am really having a sound problem - what I am experiencing sounds like a wav file is not getting dumped from external view when I switch to internal views. In the end, it may be something that everyone has but I personally don't like it. The original sound issue post was made before I installed soundmax - I was using the default Microsoft high def driver. Now that I have soundmax installed, I don't notice a difference but the driver gives me a little more control.I would bet my issues has to do with video driver. The ones I am using (191) are not know to be the best. I just haven't gotten around to changing yet.

I got the same black lines-using 195.62 drivers. Perhaps just not designed for the newest machines?

I'm using the 195.62's as well with a GTS250 OC 1GB card. My hardware isn't exactly new, but not that old either.Did you use Nick's bloom settings or the settings that came with EMB ini? I tried the original ini that came with it and I had a few weird things happen. Then I copied and pasted Nicks ini and it works great now.
