[BufferPools] PoolSize=0 the holy grail of FSX performance...

Featured Replies

Stephen, really quick to do:1) Right click the 'little' speaker next to the system date in the lower right corner of your screen and select the option 'Playback Devices'2) Select the 'device' you want to modify (I guess, it should say speakers or your sound card name) and right click it to see its properties3) You'll now see a series of 'tabs' depending on your 'sound card' but the most important ones are: Advanced & Effects/Enhancements.In Advanced, you can change the sampling rate.in effects you can 'disable' all sound card effects... this gives a little bit more CPU to FSX, so I suggest you disable ALL kind of 'special' sound effects there isan option that says: DISABLE ALL EFFECTS
Thanks *******,All done, thank you very much! Looking forward to what you will come up with next! Hope you had a great weekend.Stephen

After reading through this epic thread and much experimentation, I was finally able to get the sim running like never before (i.e. not a slow stuttering blurry mess)! Thought I'd share the settings that allow me to keep VSYNC on, maintain steady framerates (25-30) in dense AG / high traffic areas such as PNW or Frankfurt, and finally run without crashes, artifacts or blurred textures (on my system anyway :( ):- Poolsize=3072- TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=100- UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=30- FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.10- MIPBIAS=6 (under display device)- Prerender limit set to 1 in nhancer- HT on in BIOS- No Jobscheduler tweak- No autogen or texture tweaks- All other settings set as in NickN's guideThanks to all for continuing to post your results.

Thank you *******, awesome find.

[GRAPHICS]SHADER_CACHE_VERSION=1 // it 're-builds' the Shader Cache (good to do on every fsx.cfg change) just enter a random number (versioning)HIGHMEMFIX=1STALE_BUFFER_THRESHOLD=2147483647 // (2048 megabytes)
With the STALE_BUFFER_THRESHOLD, that is the memory of the graphics card? I assume the majority are 1gig cards. Would that number be differnt if you had a 2gig card? Oooooor if someone was using 2 gtx285's in SLI? EVGA Precision tells me each card is currently using 475mb each. I know I'm personally reaching the limits of an oc'd q9650 but I'd be willing to test some other numbers if it will further the cause. :(

Ooooooooooooooooooookay, hold it!!! :( :( I've been following this topic since the day it began (my first post in here is on the second page) but right now I've lost it... There currently are (at least) three topics which seems to (partially) cover the same stuff:[HOW TO] Fixing dissapearing textures - The real FIX!TextureMaxLoad vs TEXTURE_MAX_LOADand of course this topic which you are reading right now...Might it be a good idea to 1. close all currently opened topics about this (specially this one is way too long already: most forums create a part 2 when some 500 posts are reached)), 2. summarize it ALL (and I mean ALL suggested settings!) into ONE post/topic, if possible as short as can be, and 3. discuss it further from there...? This way not everyone will have to read aprox. 1000+ posts to get up to date and everyone will be able to actually understand what should/could be done... because as I said, even I, as a daily visitor of this topic, have lost it right now... :( Maybe the mods and bojote could contact each other and work out something, so nothing hasty is done which needs changing again later on. This is one of the best topics ever on Avsim, so I think it does require some special attention. B) Just a suggestion...

I agree Jeroen. We'll wait until ******* opens an "official" thread synthesizing all the finds and researches and then we'll pin it, close the others and give this good ol' thread a well-deserved rest :--).

Yes David, I agree, but we must make it available for all the incredible information it contains. Stephen

Sure Stephen, it will remain available and we'll put a link to find it in the "official" thread.

I'd just like to say I FINALLY had a day of worry free simming! Yesterday and most of last night into this morning! What a fun time!! Finally! And Saturday I flew 6 hours in the PMDG 747X, Alt tabbed, went into the menus, changed views, paused, everything worked great!! Just got too tired and turned it off 70% of the way from TNCC to ELLX

I would be delighted to see all of this priceless info condensed into a user friendly one-page list of things-to-do.On behalf of the unwashed masses of tech-zeros who know little and will never know more and simply want to have fun flying, I thank you all for your efforts. :(

Ok guys.. the guide is ready, I'm waiting for the 'official' go.. it will be a forum 'post' that hopefully will be pinned. If anyone wants to 'read the guide' you'll have to go to the members only section of the Level-D forum... I can't make it public yet until I receive the green light from certain folks :)The guide will then be published on the PMDG forums are (I guess) the FSX Forum. Its a comprehensive, HIGHLY detailed explanmation with never seen before info :) I think you are going to love it ;)it will also be Multipart guide... First aspect covered is BufferPools and HIGHMEMFIX=1 there is so much more to cover!

....not going to publish here at Avsim, *******?

*******, you have made my day. I have been testing your suggestions for the past days and I can confirm the results are OUTSTANDING. Never experienced FSX like this in 5 years: SMOOTH & FAST loading textures. Have been testing with PNW particularly.Looking forward to your document, but I believe I have found my PC FSX sweet spot.Thank you Sir,Pierre

Don;t expect the guide to be full of 'tweaks'!!! it just contains 2 for now! the UsePools=0 and HIGHMEMFIX=1 its purpose is to 'educate' more than blindly go changing stuff.. I think you'll understand when you see it ;)Besides, for the other tweaks (which are going to be part 1 2 and 3) I'm still doing some testing ;) we don;t want the sarcastic police messing around again... ;) you gotta love those guys...
