Interesting Development over at CLS

Again, for me flying an airliner without an FMC is impossible...RegardsGhiom
For me all I need is something to load up a flight plan and have the autopilot follow the route (LNAV/GPS), I use a FlightPlanner to create the route for the FMC, so I don't manually have to enter the route into the FMC .Most of the other FMS features I don'tuse that often. Plus I'm really not interested in having to learn a new FMC everytimeI get a new aircraft. I have PMDG, I have LevelD, I'm good with those. Some users I'm sure are totally into pouring over every page of the manual when they first get a new aircraft add-on.I used to be like that, I'm not anymore , too time consuming , now I wanna get that bird in the air pronto, I'll use the manual for reference as needed. In a shorter haul aircraft I'm less interested in the systems, as the flights are shorter. So I'm definitely very interested in this 'lite' MD-80 CLS is working on.Regards.Ernie.

too time consuming
That is the key. Personally, most of my simming time goes to AI. I do very little actual flying, so when I do, to check out sceneries and AI, I don't want to waste my time on getting an aircraft started and whatnot, I just want to get going... Doesn't mean I can't handle more complex aircraft, I have the boxed version of the PMDG 737 lying around somewhere and I did manage, but my interests simply lie elsewhere. And I know I'm not alone, so yes there is a market for it.

It is good to see the variety of simmers! :( That explains some strange uploads in the library. Strange for me of course. :( Ghiom

Ernie, that sounds fine. In RW pilots don't have to do it either. There's often a current database of flightplans to load.

Well, from my point of view most, if not all, flight management computers are based on very similar schemes and I never find it difficult or necessary to 'master' . The differences are all in all rather cosmetic and intuitive, so once you master this system each next one is a piece of cake, isn't it?On a side note I admit I personally have a great fun in playing with FMC. That's one of my favourite parts of flightsimming.

Absoultely. That's what I've always thought anyway.

Its not a matter of being difficult to master. They are still differences that have to be adjusted to.No two FMCS are the same, even when they are designed to be used in the same aircraft. I've written FMC's for FS addons so I'm aware of the the differences. There are differences between say the Smiths and the Pegusas even though in many cases they are used in the same aircraft. For example the Smithshas 3 separate buttons for CLB,CRZ, and DES whereas the Pegusus has one VNAV button you push to cycle through the 3 modes. The first time you see that Pegusus after using SMITHS for a while, you wonder where's that CRZ button you are looking for.Are these differences huge ? no. But using an FMS is about following a sequence of steps, and the steps to required to accomplish the same task in each FMStend to differ. Smiths, Universal,GNS, Honeywell, Collins. They all do basically the same thing, but they all accomplish those tasks in slightly different ways. You can't transition from one to the other without a little learning. For someone who wants to get in and fly, and have to first learn about the FMC, its time consuming. That's not what the 'Lite' user wants, they want to get in and flynow. Not have to break out the manual, and spend time learning about the FMC first.
On a side note I admit I personally have a great fun in playing with FMC. That's one of my favourite parts of flightsimming.
For someone like you who likes playing with the FMS, this clearly would not be an issue. And products that LDS,PMDG, Wilco etc, put out are perfectfor guys like you. But for many users working with the FMC is more like a chore, its not fun for everyone. Some people may say, not wanting to learn the FMC is lazy. Maybe so, but its a hobby not a job, one can be as lazy as they wanna be.Some days I wanna use the FMC,and other days I want get in and fly, some days its a matter of available time. So I have both Lite (CLS/Overland) and detailed (LDS/PMDG) models for those purposes.Regards.Ernie.

I know. Big respect to you for that, Ernie.I remember my simming about ten years ago. I was dreaming of a universal FMC I could put to less complex planes. If I could have got yours at that time, I would have gone mad!

Right, the problem we all face in our lives. Maybe just add to it some tiny variables in simming priorities. All in all I am aware that lite products find many more users that hardcore ones, and that does not surprise me.As for CLS's latest choice, hmmm.... somehow I thought they would choose the A32X series. With their lite to middle complexity, that could be a hit. Seems to be the most popular short/medium hauler at present. An MD-8X? Well, I love it myself, I've flown it many times in RW and I have worn my Maddog 2008 out.But I am not sure if it is going to be a lite-market success. Of course I wholeheartedly wish it to CLS.

Since Ernie is probably too modest to plug what you can do with a 'lite' airliner and the ISG avionics, even one without an FMC, here is what I did with those ISG avionics and AeroSim's 'lite' FSX Boeing Triple Seven, which has no FMC when you buy it. As you can see, now it has four of them; three in the VC and a 2D pop up:2009-7-25_2-51-51-921.jpgAl

Yes it is a shame .... if it had been a MD-90 then I would really have been ######. :(

*sigh* Would have bought it in a heartbeat. I love all of their other stuff!

Don't understand why devs are recycling same old airplanes. Would think there will be a larger market, however, for an updated 777, lite or complex.

I use the wonderful posky 777 with the isg gauges perfect combo. as far as the a complex 777 I heard pmdg are making one but unfortunately just for fsx only I believe not sure. it is sad that cls couldn't port her to fs9 the model is very nice.
