'Fake pilot' arrested in cockpit

Featured Replies

News sources are reporting that a Swedish man has been arrested in the cockpit of a 737 about to fly from Amsterdam to Turkey. Apparently, he used faked papers to get the job and had been doing this for 13 years and has over 10,000 hours logged? He did once have a private license but it has expired. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8549954.stm

He should not be arrested, he should be given an honorary license and some kind of aviation award !! :(

Do you know how many checks, sim rides etc etc this guy must have gone through over the last 13 years! he does deserve an award. I would rather fly with him then a direct entry captain.

Other news says he had a CPL which expired 13 years ago. Nevertheless, in addition to flight time, he must have countless hours in company recurrent training, type, simulator and what not. News also said he used to have type ratings to "smaller" planes which would not necessarily mean small GA, but anything smaller than a 737.So in that sense, he was far from a "fake" pilot :(

Maybe the kid was very bright, like Doogie Howser? Also the guy caught in the cockpit could've been Dirty Harry undercover to kill the bad guy terrorists? I mean, he did it in the 70's, hey!

Please, don't blow this out of proportion... don't give in to the ignorant media reports. The kid was told by his dad exactly what to say - no harm done. The little guy wasn't to do anything unless he was told. Nothing unsafe about that.

I never blaimed the kid for that however the ignorance of the flight crew and their lack of understanding of the flight controls was a little difficult for me to maintain empathy for.If I was a captain of a ship I would learn every nut and bolt on that craft including how the toilet paper roll worked.I was talking to a FO on a recent flight and that guy didn't have a clue how things worked on the other side of the flight deck. I regarded his lack of interest as mediocre airmanship and assumed there were plenty of systems on the flight deck that he didn

I agree with Gary. Someone willing to go to the extent they do to keep flying shows how passionate about flying that they are (unless of course they just like the paycheck :( ).As for the kid in the tower. I thought that was cute as hell, and the pilots seemed to really enjoy it. It's not like he left his kid alone while he hit the head and was un supervised. I think the FAA need to losen their collar a tad. Of course, having said that there are many countries the kid would have never even made it up to the tower as someone recently pointed out to me.Of course, they have to maintain authority and since it was captured by the media there will probably be some unfortunate one (or few) losing their job over it, but I thought it was great. In fact I'm going to make some excerpts from it for my FSPassenger chatter channel :)

Hi Gary, I wasn't there of course, but I am pretty sure this FO is telling this great story about how he set you up to each and every pilot friend he knows. And for the toilet paper, I pray that not only the captain but EVERYONE ELSE on board knows how it works ! :( Best,BrunoPS : this one doesn't look bad either (and as several sites have mentioned it, it might be true...)http://www.avherald.com/h?article=4272f72c&opt=0
