PMDG 777 Panel?

Featured Replies

Hi Pmdg, maybe it will be a little bit early for such a question but thats interesting for me. I've noticed that some aircrafts only had a virtual cockpit and not a 2D Panel! I don't know which aircaft it is but do you plan to create a 2D panel for the 777?Greetings Mike

2D panels are in the past. If we're being forced to move to FSX as fs9 is "old technology" then it stands to reason that we should leave all of the old technology behind, like 2D panels.

Well if 2D panels are ever left behind, you're sure as hell leaving me behind too. They're much more practical. I hope PMDG would never seriously consider it for releases in the near/distant future.Cheers,Rudy

I tend to agree with Clum...VC's have been the evolving future for quite some time now... And like Clum said, if the releases are coming for FSX only it stands to reason they will be implemented with the latest and greatest technology which is a completely immersive VC... As FS9 is being deemed a thing of the past so will 2-D panels... (just my opinion)Just my .02 and personal opinion though, I appreciate you are a fan of 2-D panels but as FS9 users are having to deal with the inevitable 2-D panel users will eventually have to do the same IMHO. Especially when you look at the quality level of some of these new VC's, they are mind blowing!! -Paul Solk

i guess its true we have to face the VC one day, but imho the 2d panel is easier to manipulate than the VC especially if one doesnt have track IR. Ive tried to fly the MD11 in VC and its just too much work trying to move about and reach a switch especially when handflying without Track IR. But if we're forced to use VC only planes, just like some of us FS9ers are slowly and uncomforably being forced to FSX, then so be it. If we couldnt fight to keep FS9 alive, when the time comes i doubt we'd be able to keep 2d panels alive. Hopefully by then id be flying the real aircraft and completely lost interest in flightsim.

I really like some virtual flightdecks in Flight Simulator, but at this time, there are just a few developer, that master the art of VC building. OK, PMDG is one of them, maybe the best related to Frames and visual quality, but there are many planes in my hangar, which I can

I use VC 95% of the time, only on occasions like a fairly complex NDB approach in the MD-11 will I open the 2d panel (within the VC) so I don't have to move my view while controlling the FCP autoflight controls, this is when I am not had flying the NDB approach that is. In that situation it is handy, but all the rest of the time it is just VC only and I am very happy that way.

I hope they at least keep the 2D panel popups like in the 744 & MD11, I dont see why not. You can have the best of both worlds, I fly 99% in VC with all the mini 2D panels undocked to other monitors and it works great.

If I've got it right.... These VC only -solutions are only in use with the smaller and cheaper planes, such as JS41 and upcoming Q400. (?)When you pay more, you expect to have things like 2D also.Aleksi Lind

I think this will be the case for a long time, and in my opinion is the best approach. This is really handy with old aircraft that have flight engineer panels, and reduces the frame rate loss as well. The Concorde-X is a good example. The flight engineer panel is beautifully modeled in the VC, but is operated exclusively through pop-up 2D panels to improve performance.

I mainly use VC now, atleast for the past few months, but I never did before. It's been a while since I was a cockpit builder but for the record, you won't get far with cockpit building if there are no 2D panels. I would be totally crippled without at least the 2D pop ups since there are some things you can't do in the VC on certain planes. I remember reading that the 2D panels can be more time consuming than the VC, but I hope that doesn't mean they do away with them completely. I think there is a lot of users that prefer the 2D and like myself would like to see some high resolution 2D panels since currently none of them (other than the pop ups) work at my resolution of 5040x1050.Oh and can someone explain how exactly 2D panels are only an FS9 thing? That makes 0 sense to me at all, hahaha. Both have their place and like I said without at least the 2D pop ups I wouldn't be able to fly from cold to dark period. But in regard to the 2D popups, I seriously doubt they would ever discontinue them.

Agreed - I do most flying in 2D, but use the VC for taxiing, enjoying the view in the cruise/descent etc, whenever workload is low.I used the VC much more in FS9, but find myself using it less in FSX, partly due to lower FPS, and partly due to the annoying tendency of the view to jump awkwardly when looking directly up/down (eg at the cpt side comm radios in the 744, or up at the IRS panel. I never had this issue in FS9.I also find that unless FPS are over about 30, the fast panning that TrackIR allows just isn't smooth enough for my eyes, which start to ache pretty quickly.I understand the decision to not include a 2D panel in the J41/Dash 8, but on a 'study sim' aircraft like the NGX/777, the 2D panel has a very important role for me.

Call me old, call me old fashioned, call me silly but I don't use the VC ... tried and hated it, simply hated all of them ... 747, md-11, md-80s, 737s, Bonanzas etcI've been flight simming since SubLogic days on the Apple IIe ... I understand and appreciate all the work involved ... but I don't get the mystique, honestly. I hope PMDG continues developing for both tastes.Cheers!!!Paul BenoitKOWD

The point of the VC is that it brings you closer to being in the airplane, and the immersion is greater. The VC with TrackIR and a nice, widescreen monitor is the most affordable way to simulate actually being in the cockpit.

Shane Gavin

I really like vlying with the VC on the PMDG Queen of the Skyes, but recently I sticked more on the 2D because of performance issuesSoon however I will get new hardware and I hope FPS will increase
