May 25, 201016 yr Oh Geof... *sigh* I would have thought you were old enough to be familiar with the "Get Smart!" TV series. Bernie Koppel as Siegfried... "This is KAOS! We don't do that here!"I am familiar.. Geofa WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!
May 25, 201016 yr Well said, Im just happy that some dev's still pump out fs9 products, for how long is anyones guess, but any extra plane here and there that we can get for fs9 is alright in my books.for me the specifics i look in when purchasing is pretty much what was stated above,1)company reputaion2)SYSTEM'S Modeling (other than reputaion, this is most important for me)3)And now that it was mentioned, a 30 day refund if not satisfied is huge. (I know flight1 has this, and to be honest, there have been a couple purchases that i was not happy with, but I didnt dare ask for a refund as I really like the services they provide, I just bit the bullet. Moral of the story, Provide an honest and friendly service, and I wouldnt use the 30 day refund on fs software.)Thank you eaglesoft for another fs9 aircraft. Thanks Flyinpilot. We're risking a bit on FS9 development but will keep it up until it is no longer worthwhile so we hope FS9 users step up to the plate. :(
May 25, 201016 yr Steve, there is a new thread in our DA42 Forum where that is covered..it can be security system or drive path related. :(Hi Ron,thanks for the shot - I appreciate it! Drive path was correct, virus scanner was deactivated, just in case. I'm on XP, so no problems concerning admin rights or whatever. But anyway - I killed it from my HD, so I got rid of the problems. :( Cheers - Stefan Maus
May 25, 201016 yr Thanks for your feedback. Can you elaborate on the FDE comparison between real and sim? We and other DA42 pilots think that Ed Wilson did a bang up job on the FDE and tha Mindstar KAP140 AP is excellent.sure, like how it handles (within limits of lack of control pressures from my joystick lol), its the same rather docile, yet sprightly handling like the real DA-42....in terms of figures:in cruise climb in real life (i cruise climb at 100KIAS, throttles 95%, i only climb at vy up to ~2000ft or so) i get about 600-900fpm with 2 persons on board, i tried that in the sim version and got 500fpm-800fpm which to me is dead on...given msfs dosent simulate things like non-standard lapse rates, inversions etc.in cruise i used some figures from a flight i did a few weeks ago:real life, cruise power 80% , FL095: 148KTAS, 12.6gphsim: cruise power 80%, FL095: 151KTAS, 12gphpretty much the same as the real thing within limits of the sim lol...it also floats down the runway like the real da-42 when i do my usual habit of retarding the power too slowly...one interesting note though was the perspective from the cockpit in the sim reminded me of something that tended to happen when i first flew the real da-42: before, i was used to flying aztecs, cessna 172s/152s and cherokee sixes....so steep nose cone of the da-42 gave me an impression i was always in a slight dive, hence i had a tendency to pitch the nose up a bit too much, which i found happening in the sim as well lolregarding short field performance, i've never taken the real da-42 to any of the STOL airports here, so i cant really say how it'll behave like, for example, attempt to take it for a few patterns at TFFJ (St. Barths).hope this helps "If lightning is the anger of the gods, the gods are concerned mostly with trees." -- Lao Tse (6th Century BCE)

I know what you mean with the long nose and the perspective it offers. :(
May 25, 201016 yr I agree, the FDE is really amazing. Fun to fly!Unfortunately the KAP140 doesn't work for me. I tried everything, deinstall, reinstall, nothing. In 2D there's just a dark blank space, in 3D a dummy picture, not clickable.I had a similar problem with Eaglesoft's Cirrus a long time ago, making this plane unflyable as well. After fumbling around for hours I gave up and deinstalled the DA42. Fortunately it wasn't THAT expensive. Pity though... But I honestly enjoyed the flight dynamics!Too bad, so far we are batting 100% for those who had the same issue. The solution is in our DA42 Support forum if you wish to try again. :(
May 25, 201016 yr This may be off-topic, but I found when browsing Diamond's website it that offers a flight simulator for the DA42 which requires 5 PCs to drive it.http://www.diamond-simulation.de/d-sim-42.html?&L=3No price is given, but I guess you could buy lots and lots (and lots?) of Eaglesoft's simulation for the money! May 26, 201016 yr Thanks Bill, can you elaborate on why folks "won't regret it"?This aircraft has great flight dynamics and handles beautifully - although I have never flown a real life DA-42, as a qualified pilot I can confirm that it's flying qualities feel very realistic in terms of handling. The flight dynamics on some addon aircraft just do not feel right - they are sometimes twitchy and hypersensitive - but when a developer gets them right, as Eaglesoft have, it is very quickly obvious as soon as you start flying it. The FDE is really very impressive, but like some of the others have said I have not managed to get the KAP140 functioning yet although I plan to go to the DA-42 support site tonight and hopefully solve that problem, then work on it at the weekend. There are not many quality light twin pistons available for fs9, but this is up there with the best! By the way my frame rates with it run at around 26-30 using France VFR scenery with everything maxed out, but quite a lot higher when flying in less demanding scenery areas.BillWindows XP Pro SP2; Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0Ghz CPU; Arctic Cool 7Pro; ASUS P5N-E-SLI Motherboard; 2GB Corsair 800Mhz DDR2 RAM; 768MB nVidia GeForce 8800GTX Dual VGA Graphics card; 2x 500GB SATA 7200RPM Hard Drive; 650W (2 x 12V) PSU; 1000GB Western Digital External Hard Drive; 150GB Western Digital External Hard Drive; CH Pro Yoke and PedalsAll powering 240GB of fs9 escapism!

May 26, 201016 yr Ron,Thanks again for the help this morning on the install. The aircraft work perfectly on my W 7 64 bit OS. And you were correct all of my install questions were answered in the post that you pointed me to for guidance. My first impressions of the model are very positive in the areas ease of use, audio, visuals and frame rates. Different type of a bird though because of its real life engines and fuel requirementsAnd again, thank you Eaglesoft for not forgetting the FS9 community. Overall the best aircraft that I have purchase in the past year.Tom

Ron pushed me into the right direction. Go to the link he gave us - it works like a breeze. And it's really easy. Thanks again Ron!The next step will be upgrading the G1000 since I'm used to the real GNS530... Cheers - Stefan Maus
May 27, 201016 yr I've been buying aircraft only for FS-X lately, but what I've seen on the Twinstar makes me want to splurge and get it for FS9--especially after my recent purchase of the Columbia which was just a beautiful aircraft. What engines are simulated on this aircraft?Regards,John
