July 6, 201015 yr Here I am at 7,000 ft A.S.L. IFR enroute to Barbados from sunny Aruba...and just wanted to comment on how real everything looks now since having gone to the 257.x series Nvidia drivers. With ENBSeries engaged, the Atlantic 7,000 ft below has that so-real-life sparkle with just the perfect wave animation to make it so convincing that I am 'really there'.I've stated before, that if M.S. never brings another version past FSX....I shall be totally satisfied with the Status Quo. With the latest drivers, and the latest real-worth tweaks, also, with such epic scenery as PNW, etc....I couldn't ask for more. I get 30 plus frames pretty much no matter what the scenery or situation, and I find that totally acceptable.I have downloaded the latest DirectX 11 updates for W7 64 bit, and with removing HIGHMEM=1 from my config file, have found that I have even smoother animation than when I had it in the config. I also don't get the occasional CTD when trying to access some menu options. I think that I am starting to think like some others, that the 'less' the tweaks, the better. Can you weigh down the config file with too many custom tweaks? Who knows...but certainly my performance hasn't suffered for dropping most of them. It is my belief that the driver sets were always until the 257.x series for Nvidia cards, the ULTIMATE culprit for less-than-stellar performance, rather than the config file of FSX needing tweaking to death. Like I said, I have divested myself of pretty well most tweaks, and with FSX being driven by the 257.15 BETA...am simply having stellar performance in animation and graphic scene generation.I have my LOD set for my now 'default' 6.5 and won't fly without ENBSeries in play. It is THAT that gives that beautiful contrast and sparkle coming off of the water those may thousands of feet below my wing! Since this last January/2010, I feel there has been a Renaissance with FSX running on my system. Again, so totally satisfied and a true FSX-happy camper!Cheers,Mitch

This is all fabulous stuff. With Paul's scenery, including his custom beach textures for the Caribbean, you do feel like you are there. When I take a break from the Pacific Northwest, I island hop along the chain right down to the 'ABC' Islands, lol. Then I head over to Venezuela and North to Central America. Life is FSX good!Mitch

July 7, 201015 yr Thanks very much for the link!p.s. I was just about to edit my post because after I downloaded the Barbados airport I read the readme file and it referred to Paul Wheeler's work in there.....appreciate you posting the link though!
July 7, 201015 yr Max here, yes the south coast of Barbados looks great with Paul's enhancements, plus also recommend REX obviously plus Paul's FSWater Configurator and you'll really love that 09 approach over that turqoise shallow water ! July 7, 201015 yr I probably have not researched it enough but I would love to find a way to use Paul's scenery and FT Grenadines and St Maarten together. Is it just a matter of layering then properly in the scenery config? Anyone using all them together? However, with Vol 5, you have to tick the Fly Tampa compatibility box when installing it plus there are some hot fixes here:http://www.strikingsoftware.com/forum/index.php?board=37.0Best wishesSteve Stephen Munn

With all of the above installed on my system, after PNW, this is where I also 'hang out' when Life gets a litttle rough around the edges......I grab an amphib...and escape........Mitch
July 7, 201015 yr I am pretty enamored of PNW right now myself, the combination of addon airports on the rich Orbx back drop is so immersive. I just got a complex engine endoresment and a tail-wheel endorsement in real life so I feel like I can fly a bush plane with some degree of competence. The new drivers + GTX 480 SLI + triple widescreen + enb bloom = heaven!I am a little embarrased to say I took a "twilight" flight into Forks, WA last night(ugh). :(
July 7, 201015 yr To be honest what Paul Wheeler is doing with the Caribbean is equivalent to FTX. Only it is free. That guy and his persistance is awesome.Thank you if you are reading this.Alex

July 12, 201015 yr Hi,I downloaded the file for Grantley Adams International Airport for FSX, the one listed below. I installed the software into FSX and it has been added to my scenery.cfg file. However, I have a problem. I am unable to land and/or takeoff without the Level-D aircraft crashing. Also note FS Passengers is also running. Can someone who has the level-D 767 try to land and depart from this freeware airport and tell me if the aircraft crashes during takeoff and/or landing.Thank youAdditional Test: It looks like FS Passengers is causing the problem, without FS Passengers I can land and takeoff in the Level-D. Anyone else have this problem?. If so, is there a fix?. July 12, 201015 yr Mike,You need to turn Crash and Damage detection OFF in the FSX realism settings. There are invisible objects in the scenery that you will hit with this activated. FSPax may activate this automatically which will mean you won't be able to use it.Unfortunately, being my first scenery, I never picked up on this during design. I may patch it eventually.
