Orbx Orcas

I'm not looking forward to a new sim from Microsoft. This is what I'm looking forward to:http://fullterrain.com/product_kors.html

Yep, looks nice, but why so dark?

Looks Great! Makes me wish my computer had the ability to run it. Unfortunately all that eye candy just kills my frame rates!Myself; I find flying around an area filled with animals, cars or people always in the same position seems unnatural (or maybe I wouldn't mind as much if my frame rates were still double digits).Realistically, I understand that people expect to see something extra for the price they are charged.

I'm not much of a GA guy in the sim and don't own any ORBX products, but I will buy Orcas Island package assuming that I dont need to buy the whole PNW package. I owned the Orcas scenery for FS9 and it was one of my favs and the FSX version looks way better.

Unfortunately you would have to buy the whole PNW package as well. Orbx's addons use many library objects contained in the PNW package.

Their last few releases have performed quite well on my system with high settings, so I am really looking forwards to this one.

I am running an Athlon 64 5000+, NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT OC 512MB and 2GB ram.For some reason I notice a performance drop with the extra eye candy!!

Well I say that specifically because some of their older released don't do well at all on ANY system (YMML).It seems like they are doing a very nice job of optimizing their products nowadays.

Have you tried the PNW demo?I really love flying VFR. I like looking out the window. Orbx sceneries have lots of eye candy. I can't recommend them enough. However, if flying low and slow, or driving a car through crowded streets, is not your thing, I can understand why you're so reluctant to buy.I can't see myself flying only heavies into major airports. It's fun too, but I like the occasional carrier landings as well.

It is on my shopping list. I love FSX for low and slow and FS9 for airline flying. The best of both worlds.Orbx got me hooked on FSX.

No I still haven't tried the demo and frankly the way I am about installing stuff, I would probably feel more comfortable just buying PNW and installing it rather than messing with the demo. It's funny that a few weeks ago I posted here about a PNW video that blew me away and that I considered getting it and the A2A Cub that was in the video, but after a few days the feeling passed and I never did buy either.I'm not much into low and slow in the sim, in real life yes, but not so much in the sim, unless i'm flying a chopper. The only reason I am interested in Orcas is because I loved it in FS9 and the FSX version looks really nice. I don't doubt that one of these days when I finish collecting major hubs I will start buying some ORBX stuff :-)
