To all the very gifted graphic artists who create under the ORBX banner:With my present flight in progress, having left Ketchikan, Alaska, and meandering through the mountain tops, fjord valleys, and, with my FSX set to your recommended 5M for mesh, and EXTREAMLY DENSE for Auto-Gen (on a 4GHz or better system), I am quite literally stunned by the scenery before me. As I crest over the mountain tops barely 50 feet above them....the tree line with the snow covered/frosted junipers is so incredibly life-like that I know, if in the slightest that I disturbed them, some of that snow would fall off the branches! What you folks have created, is simply incredible workmanship. I can't obviously speak for anybody else, but FOR MYSELF, I must say that the the Fjords of the Pacific Northwest is probably as close to virtual real-life tiles that one can render with the present FSX technology/engine in place. You have absolutely suspended disbelief for myself. I am beyond happy with what you as a team-effort have produced. I am fortunate that I have a system whereby I can run with FSX full-out with the exception of having your setting of 5M for Mesh, and what I like of Water set to Mid High. With those settings, my FSX ORBX world is virtual. I mean...when you can fly 50 feet over the evergreen tips and be able to almost count the NEEDLES upon the branches...can you only imagine what else I am seeing with the same clear distinction, and superb vista!I was with *******'s tweaks, able to bring Nvidia's 260.99's into focus, and the water this driver set produces by also using REX2 Extreme is as real as anything I HAVE seen in real life. Combine this with your Fjords set to the max autogen, and you can only imagine what this produces for flight simulation. If there was EVER a time that an FS9 user should update his/her equipment, so as to be able to enjoy FSX to the fullest, and have your ORBX PNW/Fjords package installed...would be NOW!Your scenery, in conjunction with some of the best float planes via Carenado out there, has made me quite frankly no longer care if I ever actually take to the real sky. My immersion level with the Fjords scenery is beyond 100 percent!I'm going to go back to my exploratory flight now...but just HAD to pause the flight and come here to type these words of the emotional impact of flying over your latest scenery. This is world-class work. World Class! You can rest assured that as soon as Northern Rockies comes out...it will be on my hard drive as soon as I read about the release. If your intention, is to totally transform the U.S. and Canada into 'as ORBX sees it'....then so will I also transform my FSX topography.I frankly couldn't care now if I ever took the time, cost, and effort to get my PPL. My immersion level right now...with your scenery, my assortment of custom planes, and my present system,....has GIVEN me my virtual PPL, and a simply STUNNING world to fly over it via General Aviation, running VFR and IFR flights.Kind regards, and the most enthusiastic "CHEERS MATE"!Mitch

Nice one.I must admit that Orbx brought FSX to life for me. Their stuff runs fine at highest settings (at least on modern systems) and brings some immersion to the screen which I've never seen before. Although FS9 is long gone for me, FSX really became more interesting with their sceneries. That doesn't make the work of other devs useless or less immersive (I could think of this very fine but small stuff from Earth Simulations by the way) but Orbx really kicks out a lot of dense titles there and all of them at a nice pricepoint in my eyes. They also have the fastest and best support on the net so far, really a benchmark.Keep on going like this, guys!

Mitch,I agree! Orbx and REX Overdrive create a magical immersion I've never experienced before. I'm so thankful!

Hey Mitch, I've yet to update to the latest nVidia drivers.. I'm using the latest WHQL for Win 7 64-bit.. I believe its 258.x.Are the 260.x worth it? I usually don't notice too much diff in driver updates, but your comment about realistic water made me wonder :)

Hi *******,Oh yes....ohhhhh yeah!I was frustrated to no end. The 257.15 gave me the best and clearest terrain, but so, so (normal by my view) water rendering. Then...I tried the 260.99's WHQL..and the water became alive. Wave action that LOOKS and acts real. I also am using Rex Overdrive for my water action ( CRESTS OD). I've tweaked and twacked, and got the 260.99's looking great. So..yes, I highly recommend them. With your hand on the cfg throttle, you'll be lovin' them. So, with the 260.99 suite, the Fjords look absolutely life-like. Water action can be clearly seen even as high as 2,800 feet ASL. Give them a try and tell me what you think.Mitch

+1 - use nVidia Inspector 1.94 with these if you need 8s combined.  Great driver! The latest driver is for the 580 - 262.99jja

Hey Mitch, good post. But...You really should experience the sheer joy of feeling the wheels of an Aeronca Champ (insert any small-engined tail dragger here) lift off the grass on an early morning summer joy ride. With the window open, and the smell of fresh-cut grass filling the cabin, a flight down the shoreline at 50 feet with the window open is about as immersive as you can get. I really do appreciate my nicely tweaked - thanks again Bojote - flight sim, but I think I enjoy it so much because of my memories of the real thing.Mitch, if the opportunity presents itself, go for the real deal, at least for a few hours. The old cliche is true, you know, the thing about the most fun outside of sex. But, if the real deal isn't possible, I will be the first to admit we have the next best deal going. Never would have been able to say that, and enjoy FS as much, without the tremendous add-ons and the tweaks that so many of you guys have provided.

'Cause down the shore everything's all right

I agree 100%. The ORBX scenery is the best there is bar none. I haven't had this much fun with any scenery since the FS9 days with the Portland FZ02. It's just... fun! :(

I absolutely could not agree more. I have a hard time flying outside of the Orbx completed areas. There are many great scenery add-ons, but when you consider the extreme quality, the huge area, great performance, great value, world class customer service and a thriving online community, it is virtually impossible to beat.If you enjoy flying low 'n' slow, or bush flying, this scenery is vital.

It's so disappointing they spend so much time making the scenery great and yet... the big airports still have that bland default look. If only FSDreamteam did a package with CYVR, CYYJ, KPDX, KSEA, etc

We're working on more of the larger airports as well, but they take time. KPDX is on my drawing board at the moment, but it's a big project. :(

Which is nice but it would have been better to work with a scenery team or add a few people to create airport scenery along side your own scenery, instead we have to wait a year for a quality addon airport. But anyway, amazing scenery I can't wait to check the new release out this weekend!

I hear what you're saying, believe me. It's hard to say this without sounding argumentative (I don't mean it that way), but I challenge you to find a scenery team as prolific as our guys. Have a look at http://fullterrain.com and check out how many products we've brought to market in a couple of short years. All of that is for naught of course if you've got your heart set on a specific airport. I get that. As Tom Petty said, the waiting is the hardest part. Batting%20Eyelashes.gif

Hey Mitch, cool post, thanks for sharing your sentiments! :( I got this email from Richard "Georender" Goldstein the other day (and he's OK'd it for me to share it):

"I was the producer of the original KORS for FS2004.... Always thought it was my best work. ..I've just seen your KORS notification on the ORBX website and have to say that I'm really pleased that you are working on Orcas. You guys seem to be the best around and I cant' wait to see the final product...You've brought KORS back to life and taken it to the next level - great work. Regards,Richard 'Georender' Goldstein"
Now I gotta say, as a huge fan of Richard's beautiful airfields for FS2004, to get an unsolicited email like that from the great man himself - well, it made my year really :(

Cheers,

John Venema
