January 8, 201115 yr Re: Your title 'the world is coming to an end'Did they give a time? I'm busy in the morning. Thanks.Bob.. :)It means in only about 150+ years the pole will be at the equator. Sooner if the rate continues to increase. There is likely to be more noticeable effects to the climate and the Earth's geology, like increasing frequency of Earthquakes, and Volcanic activity sooner than that. This is not good! The Mayans may have been right!!! Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d

January 8, 201115 yr You are aware that this happens all the time? I hope...DJYes but I don't think it has done this at this rate until recently. the shift used to be measured in feet not miles. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
January 8, 201115 yr Looks like FlyTampa beat the news by a week. Their Tampa Rebooted patch is already out.
January 8, 201115 yr Looks like FlyTampa beat the news by a week. Their Tampa Rebooted patch is already out.I appreciate finding out about the patch but it would have been better served letting us know in the main FSX forum rather than this umm, thread. I appreciate it none the less! Thanks. Mike Keigley
January 8, 201115 yr I blame the Dharma Initiative. But seriously, talk about over-dramatization by the trusty news media. It's not like this problem just suddenly popped up out of nowhere and now poor TPA is forced to close a runway for a whole week. Declination is always occurring and affects pretty much everywhere on earth and for the most part it is very predictable. Its just part of the cost of being an airport. They knew it was coming and they most likely scheduled the closure to coincide with other routine runway maintenance. A pain, sure. But the world will be here tomorrow. As for a patch for the FlyTampa scenery (which they have already released), they also patched the St. Marten scenery after that airport had to change runway designation from 9/27 to 10/28 a couple years ago for the same reason. So I applaud FlyTampa for their timely fixes for something that is mostly just cosmetic. Most designers won't do that.

Most designers won't do that.We all know declination happens constantly, but I don't think many knew it was at this rate. Remember the last polarity flip was 780,000 years ago. At this rate we're talking a little over 300 years, and that is if the rate doesn't increase further. Do the math it's 12,416 miles pole to pole, divide that by 40 you get 310 years. I think the effect on aviation will be the least of our problems. The effects will get more severe as time goes on, if this continues at this rate or faster. It could explain some of the wacky climate changes we've seen the last few years, and the increased seismic activity around the world. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d
January 8, 201115 yr Can we get logical here and stop the nonsense? The magnetic pole won't be going to the equator, as the pole moves around within the arctic circle in a non-linear manner.Keep the stupid to yourself, if you have no clue what you're perpetuating.OH...and the world isn't coming to end. January 8, 201115 yr Author ******* ( not Hey-sus), I was being sarcastic with that title. Maybe this is why all the fish and birds committed mass suicide last week!
January 8, 201115 yr OH...and the world isn't coming to end.It is...Just have a look at the Ester Island's history and recent geopolitics studies.Ben
January 8, 201115 yr Commercial Member :( What I find sort of frustrating is the people who study such things, and people generally, can’t discuss stuff like this without alarmists on both sides chiming in – ‘the world is ending!’ or ‘pay no attention!’ :( The world doesn’t end - for the most part ;) - but it does change constantly. What’s the key to our species – adaptation. Being curious about these things is half the battle. :blush:The article is so bad…presenting a high school science lesson as news. It’s not news at all. It’s more like staged entertainment.

My great fear is that the world might end and nobody would tell me. Can you imagine how much time I could then waste before I figured it out for myself !!!!AR
