I have a question to ask. My dad owns a 727, but doesn't fly any more when we used to go the GA part of the airport, and enter the air-plane I always realize the extra Panels on the right and back of the cockpit, and the extra chair. I don't live with him so I can't really describe it or ask him. I want To know what are they there for as they aren't there in the more modern air-planes? Not only this but Even on modern air-planes There are A set of buttons to rear of the OH panel. They appear just to be circles that can be rotated.

The 727 had a Flight Engineer, and I believe that is what you are referring to here.

Those sound like circuit breakers to me!

Impressive, the Dedication you guys put into the things you like. Looks like I have some reading to do! Thank you.

I think he is talking about both things.

[...] extra Panels on the right and back of the cockpit, and the extra chair.
That third chairs was for the Flight Engeneer, that was the third membrer of the crew or the third "pilot", but he wasn't actually a pilot. Many of the functions they used to perform are now automated, and the reamaining ones are enough for two pilots to take care of.

The circuit brakers still exist on modern airplanes, not only in airliners. Even Cessna''s 172 have CBs. They are not rotary. They are push-or-pull buttons.I know what they do, but I don't know how to explain it clearly to you. I'm sure someone else does.

Thanks, maybe if there is damage to a system, they can push the corresponding button on the breaker and Remove the Electricity flowing to it.

It's pretty much that, except by the fact that pilots are not authorized to touch those buttons in any circunstances. They automatically pop if a high voltage flows through the circuit, avoiding that a specific system get damaged by excecive voltage. If that happens, the pilot cannot reset them. Only the maintenace crew on the ground can operate the CBs.

You may be getting confused with LAHSO, that involes intersecting runways not the same runway.Regards
Nope. he's referring to the "land after..." call from ATC which does get used occasionally. LAHSO is land and hold short, usually of an intersecting runway. Sometimes ATC will use "land after the company 747 on short final", it's use varies hugely by country and airport in question but it does exist.

Thank you a lot! It's much appreciated.

Just to add a little to this, the pilots are allowed to reset breakers if the QRH procedure calls for it. In the past we were allowed one reset of a popped breaker but that went away a few years ago.

I am in the last class at Purdue University to fly the 727 simulator. While it is nearly obsolete, it is really great at helping understand the systems in transport category aircraft. Nothing is automated, so we have to do everything ourselves. It's a really great airplane, and I am learning a ton!David Lynn

This bird looks incredible! I once worked at Renton installing parts on the inboard trailing edge of the wing, and I was wondering if I could request a shot for the next round of screenshots. Is it possible to see an angle from below the wing, showing the area between the engine nacelle and wing box? This might sound goofy, but any time I see a new model of the 737, I always want to see if the parts I installed were drawn into the texture. It's not a major detail as far as simulation fidelity is concerned, just a personal thing for me. Thanks!Jonathan Dodds

Oh, and a question, and forgive me if I'm asking in the wrong thread. Will you guys be modelling the new Sky Interior for the cabin? For reference: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUt8By6tcMA&feature=related

While a basic cabin is included with the airplane, our focus is on cockpit systems and visuals, and external accuracy, so in response to your query, no, we will not be modeling the new Sky Interior for the cabin.
