February 19, 201115 yr A Track IR thread transformed into a TrackNoir thread!Waiting for the new version with better support for FSX, way to go guys, great work...I hope..
May 27, 201115 yr Hello (lucky) FSX users,I call you lucky, because the FSX developers have blessed you with free head-tracker support (and much more, SimConnect takes care of that).Your fellow DCS-users (you know, of Blackshark and others) are not so lucky: the ED-developers say they cannot implement alternative head-tracker support, because NaturalPoint 'forbids'.This week James Ireland started a petition to convince ED that many users like free head-tracking.My question is simple: could you please help and sign the petition too? It costs you nothing but a few minutes and no e-mail addresses are exposed (unless you want to).The more developers support alternatives, the more will follow! Thanks in advance P.S.: Seems I forgot to mention in this thread: update 1.5 (with improved FSX support) was released a few moths ago...

May 30, 201115 yr my best investment was a 27 inch dell monitor no need for track IR or turning your head :( Well, even on a 50 inch screen, the Overhead will be .. over your head. Same goes for the Pedestal, being below and when you want to spot the rw threshold while flying circuits you may also miss a thing. Not to mention the leaning forward for some displays or switches. So the size of the screen doesn't matter at all, as it's always a (small) window only to look into the simulated world.Only a dome-like projection would render any head trackers useless since the detail then would be there and displayed at all times. As long as people don't run any projection domes, they can only choose to look static or to "move the window" with using a joystick button, a pad or a head tracker.Maybe some automated software (altering the angles in reference to the plane movement) may help too, but the simple turning of the head is the most natural way of doing it, just like a real pilot does. I'd say that sim pilots need even more head movement in e. g. turns since they can't feel their plane, so a checking view on the turn coordinator or the VSI may happen more often if the visual reference doesn't help you enough. So the simple 'big screen = no head tracker needed' equation may well be a miscalculation, especially when speaking about 27 inch screens there.By increasing the resolution of a static image, you don't turn it into a dynamic one. I think that only personal preferences will hold people back from using any head tracking solution (there are free ones out too, not only that rather expensive TrackIR) since there's no logical Con available unless you are running a really surrounding screen setup with real hardware gauges and switches, like the Level D sims. It's difficult to actually show people the advantage of head tracking. Same goes for the impression of 3D for example. The videos on Youtube all look the same to you since you only see what happens on the screen (view is turned) but can't get the impression about doing this without your hands. So people won't say "wow!" until they've experienced it, outside of Youtube, at their homes. They should offer a trial there. (which is possible since e. g. TrackIR is hardware which can be returned)
May 30, 201115 yr well i do have TRack IR4, have had it for a few years, had the wow factor come and go, i found it too cumbersome to put something on your head and i had external light issues as well, then i tried TH2GO didnt like it as back then, with the analog TH2GO i was stuck on the resolution which didnt offer me what i needed in terms of what i wanted to see on my instruments just by looking at them instead of using mouse to pan to it. May 30, 201115 yr You could try FaceTrackNoIR then, just using a webcam without any head mounted devices. It's a free software with a donate button.I think V4friend is the/a dev there. http://facetracknoir.sourceforge.net/home/default.htmIf I hadn't TrackIR already running here, I would try his soft for sure.As said, the whole tracking thing is a case of personal preferences, big monitor setups don't render it useless at all from the technical aspect.
May 30, 201115 yr my best investment was a 27 inch dell monitor no need for track IR or turning your head :( I don't think it matters how big the monitor is, you still need to turn your head. TrackIR takes it to the next level. Regards, Max (YSSY) i7-12700K | Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB 3600MHz DDR4 | Gigabyte RTX4090 24Gb | Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ELITE DDR4 | Corsair HX1200 PSU
May 30, 201115 yr well i downloaded facetracknoir and i cant find the simconnect ini file in the settings folder.well i finally found V4 going to give it a try now. I7-10700F RTX 3070 32 Gig Ram
May 30, 201115 yr I bought a TrackIR 5 last year, I absolutely love it! I just wish they would make a wireless/battery powered TrackClip Pro.
