February 10, 201115 yr I have never used the vc in the past as I always found it awkward and difficult to read the information displayed in the cockpit. I purchased trackir 5 two weeks ago and I've not tuched a 2d panel since! It has turned flight sim into a whole new experience. I could never go back! Pete Richards I've owned every version of flight simulator since Flight Simulator 3.0 in 1988. Windows 11 Pro loaded on a 4TB Gen5 Crucial T700 SSD, 4TB Samsung 990 Pro SSD, Ryzen 9 7950x3d, AS Rock X670e Taichi Motherboard, Gigabyte Gaming RTX 4090 OC 24GB, 64GB (2x32GB) Viper Venom DDR5-6000MT/s, MSI 32" MAG 321UPX QD-OLED 260hz 4K Gaming Monitor.
February 10, 201115 yr Cool I always read of this, but have found a hat switch and zoom buttons to be adequate for now. Eventually I'll try it.
February 10, 201115 yr Right On!!!! Trk IR is just as important as a Yoke or Joystick,Once you have it there's no flying without it.Now couple TRK IR with Orbx PNW and The New A2A Spitefire and watch your immersion meter go BONKERS!!!!!
February 10, 201115 yr I could never get use to it. Too much head movement. Now if it could track your eyes and head!!One simply slows it down and adjusts the range of vision to whatever is comfortable, Torker. It is fully configurable for every axis, including speed and smoothness. Yes - it's expensive, but so is golf, skiing, full size flying - even taking a holiday. Try r/c helicopters with a competitive, .60-sized chopper! Me? I couldn't fly without it. It puts me in the cockpit. i7 [email protected] | 32GB RAM | EVGA RTX 3080Ti | Maximus Hero VII | 512GB 860 Pro | 512GB 850 Pro | 256GB 840 Pro | 2TB 860 QVO | 1TB 870 EVO | Seagate 3TB Cloud | EVGA 1000 GQ | Win10 Pro | EK Custom water cooling.
February 10, 201115 yr I could never get use to it. Too much head movement. Now if it could track your eyes and head!!There is an ancient TrackIR profile I uploaded like 6 years ago to naturalpoint. It's called 'FS2004 Optimized Flight'http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/04-community/community-profiles.htmlI got sick and had nausea the first time I used TrackIR so took the time to adjust it for my taste. I still use the same profile :)
February 10, 201115 yr I could never get use to it. Too much head movement. Now if it could track your eyes and head!!Exactly! I couldn't get used to it either, as you have to move your head to replace eye movement. It's as if your eyes are fixed in a forward stare, and the head must compensate for that. Curt Branch
February 10, 201115 yr Ive got version 4. Used it until I got EZDOK then put it in a drawer.Last weekend I dusted it off, literally, and configured it with EZDOK and now there is no way I could use either without the other.
February 10, 201115 yr I could never get use to it. Too much head movement.Same for me. Even after all the experiments I made over the years, it's still a riddle to me how someone can fly a complex airliner in VC mode and be happy with that (assumed the person is not using additional hardware and multi-monitor setups or so)! February 10, 201115 yr I'd just like to mention a little project that gives TrackIR-like functionality from a regular webcam - no IR reflectors, LEDs, special hat or otherwise required:-http://facetracknoir.sourceforge.net/home/default.htmIt is very much being actively developed at the moment, and I've been helping out especially with the filtering side of things. It's coming on leaps and bounds so I recommend checking it out.Kind regardsDave

I have since a year back had trouble with positioning my TrackIR unit after I started using a new television monitor, it was either too far above my head or to far below, and with my cap on the reflectors got blocked very often when I pitched my head up or down. With facetracknoir I've had no such problems, I can position my camera below my television screen and it still tracks everything perfectly. The only feature I'm missing at the moment is the ability to pause the tracking and having the view stay as it is, but from what I read that will be in the next version which is supposed to come out in the next few weeks. I believe you can set up a hotkey to suspend any or all axes already in the shipping version. Take a look at the keyboard shortcuts menu. What I've been working on is a much improved filter which smooths things out a lot more but with less lag, and I'm also working on steady gaze detection which will damp down the movement when the software realises you're looking at something and not moving much. I don't know how much of my work is going to end up in the next release (nor when it might ship) but I can tell you that there are lots of improvements coming down the line :-)Kind regardsDave

Take a look at the keyboard shortcuts menu. That results in seeing the view straight forward, it does not stay where you where looking (at least for me). February 10, 201115 yr That results in seeing the view straight forward, it does not stay where you where looking (at least for me). I found a start/stop keyboard short cut option in the build I have installed here, with a selector to either stay in position or zero the position when stopped. I don't know if this is in the shipping version, but I'm pretty sure it will be in the next update.Kind regardsDave
February 10, 201115 yr Hi, I've been using TrackIR 5 for almost a year now, and can't imagine going back to flying without it! It's really made a huge change for the better, to my flight simming experience. Truly a fantastic add-on, though anything that could provide the same functionality for folks who don't have a TrackIR can only be a good thing! :)-George Happy Flying! -George
February 10, 201115 yr I was just about to order a TrackIR 5 when I saw this post. I downloaded FaceTrackNoir to try it and I have to say, it works pretty well on my system!I made some adjustments to the simconnect .ini file and I'm a happy camper now: saved myself some bucks not having to buy a TrackIR 5 device.Looking forward (very much so) to the next update.
