ORBX Portland

You´re having that worse frames? I had the same frames as I mostly have when I checked it out with the OZx upgraded Bell 206, arround 30-40 FPS. Only with the sight ot KPDX it went massively down to 20-25 FPS.Just tested the PNW demo as Bill told me. It just pulled my socks off! What a beautyful scenery, the best I´ve ever seen. Down at Forks with my C206 ist felt like the real one. Just impressive. I´ll definately buy it. A big thanks to John and the FTX team for making the best scenery ever.

Best regards, Steffen

A Question for Bill Womack: Greetings from across the Columbia, north of Camas. I have a good computer that runs PNW and PFJ nicely; Stark's Twin Oaks, Concrete, Darrington, and a couple of other ORBX offerings run well also. But the new Portland scenery brings my system to its knees. This scenery is too good and close to home to tolerate at 5-7 FPS; I have to find a way to make it run more smoothly, without moving sliders fully left. Have you any suggestions? Are there adjustments within PNW that could help? Desperate on runway 25 at 1W1.
Apology to Bill Womack: Sorry for the premature panic. For reasons I can't explain yet, the Portland scenery is working fine now. FPS pushes 24 where I have it locked, with momentary dips to 14-15, depending upon what part of the scenery I'm looking at. Anxious to see KPDX when it's completed. Thanks for a good job on this and Twin Oaks.

I'm happy that so many new simmers are discovering the FTX world. I simply love the Portland upgrade. It's just another award winning creation that I will enjoy for a long time.I still love the AU scenery DVD. At 50% off it's a steal! LOL

No problem. Just to be clear though, I didn't create the Portland Cityscape scenery. It's the work of Tim Harris, a very talented member of the Orbx dev team.

Hi,I assume that you must use the switch applet to go from default to North America just like PNW. Is this correct?ThanksBob

Nope, the auto installer places it into the folders created for PNW, there is no switch on and off for the free Portland addition.

Portland does not require PNW to be installed - it will run just fine as a stand alone enhancement - activated in the Scenery Library in the usual manner. It installs as Microsoft Flight Simulator X\ORBX\FTX_NA\FTX_AA_KPDX_CITYSCAPEWorks like a charm for me.

I search the help . . guess I dont know how to state the question to get the proper results... I dont see the scenery after installing it .... Do I have to change the scenery priority to get it to show up?

i got it working .... somehow scenery was unchecked in library.

Hi David,Great. Thanks a bunch. Appreciate your detailed responses.RegardsBob

Hi allI'm wondering if anybody else is having issues with this scenery? For me, it only partially works in FSX Gold on Win7 64. With scenery and autogen sliders maxed out, I get most of the bridges doubled up with the original FSX scenery bridges underneath, and large swathes of the city with the autogen removed (but nothing to replace it.)It runs beautifully smoothly (maxed out at my third party framerate limiter's 30fps), but it clearly isn't displaying as intended. I can't tell if the areas of the city without buildings are supposed to be that way (from the dev screenshots on OrbX's forum, I don't think so, though), but certainly the bridges aren't supposed to be this way.I'm a new OrbX AU owner waiting on my DVD to arrive, and installed all the freeware airports in the meantime. The others seem OK, and indeed all my other scenery seems to work fine. I don't have any other Portland third party scenery or AFCADs installed, and FSX is installed outside of my documents folder (it's actually in the root of my F: drive) so UAC shouldn't be coming into play. I also installed the libraries last, as directed. Please forgive me if this is already answered somewhere. I did try some forum searches, and don't see any documentation anywhere. The only entry for OrbX in my start menu is for the YMAV user guide. I did find some other docs in my FSX\OrbX\scripts folder, but none related to KPDX.See attached for screenshots of the default FSX scenery, and what I get with the KPDX scenery enabled... (Default is on the left, with KPDX scenery installed is on the right.)Thanks in advance for any help anybody can offer!---Michael Tomkins

Hi Micheal,Portland CBD freeware was designed fit over the top of the FTX PNW region pack, it also uses the FTX custom autogen buildings and trees, and some generic objects from the ORBXlibs, the excludes and other items are designed to exclude what is there in PNW so I cant guarantee that it will work with default FSX or anything else I'm afraid, if it does then its a bonus! If you still have issues and you have PNW, feel free to drop by our support forums http://orbxsystems.com/forums/index.php and I'll help you furtherCheersTim

Thanks for the quick confirmation, Tim. Didn't realize that, I'd read earlier in the thread that it worked fine with the stock FSX scenery. Having just splashed out on OrbX Australia and contacted Ant's Airplanes earlier tonight to see if his Tecnam Sierra LSA is available in US dollars, I've already reached my budget for the month. Umpteen million other things still in my "to buy" list, but I'll have to add PNW. ;-)If anybody else can replicate (or figures a way to fix) the duplicated bridges issue when using the Portland freeware with stock scenery, I'd love to hear it!
