RealAit Turbind Duke cockpit amazing..

:( You know, I still like the C310 - it is a lot of fun to fly.I guess it depends on what kind of aircraft you get to fly in real life. Not many of us get to learn to drive in a Ferrari either - as a matter of fact,I learned to drive in a Volkswagen Beetle, and my first training flight was in a C152..Flying the Turbine Duke is like fulfilling a fantasy..
Yes Bert, although I will probably never get to fly one in RL, I look forward to this fantasy immensely! Thanks, Bruce.

Is the VC that much better than the orignal? Looking at the screenshots it's hard to compare and see a difference. I just wish RealAir included a more worn VC, the orignal has an almost plastic look to it.
If you did not like the original, you may not like this one either..I liked the original, but like this one a lot better.Go back to the top of this thread and look at the screen shot closely.

As we have said repeatedly before, most Dukes, and especially Turbine Dukes, are kept in immaculate condition by their owners. We see no point at all in adding a beaten up look when this doesn't reflect the condition of most Dukes in service today. We do add dust and scratches on the gauge glass which is probably not coming out in the screenshots. When you say "plastic" what exactly do you mean please? The Duke's original yoke is made of "Bakelite" or polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolanhydride. This is an early form of plastic and is the ONLY part on the whole aircraft giving that material look. The rest of the panel is about as far removed from "plastic" as it is possible to be. But perhaps my eyes and yours see different things. Rob - RealAir

I guess I would need to be a real world pilot to understand this desire for "beaten up" cockpit panels in simulated planes. Given the choice between "new and clean" or "tired and worn", I would choose the former every time, for anything.

I am with you on that, although I would give credit to RealAir for giving you options for both.. .. ..G

I have FSX and haven't really done a flight in it yet (just some testing-but waiting to build a sandy bridge i5 system). This is the first GA aircraft I have really wanted to get, I suppose.I do want a pressurized aircraft. And I suppose the turbine Duke has better climb rate on single engine than the naturally aspirated one........Daniel
The left and right mouse clicks don't work on my system eg a a left click on the left side of the main panel that is supposed to bring up the IFR view has me looking at the pedals. A left click on the centre of the main panel that is supposed to bring up the GPS/radios has me looking at the throttles and there are similiar issues with the other views. Now I assume this is because I also have EZCA installed however when I disable EZCA the problem persists. My difficulty with the zoomed in VC view as apposed to undockable 2d views is that your focus is taken away completely from what is happening oustide the cockpit and on other instruments. While not really an issue at altitude this very critical after takeoff and during approach. There is no shortage of accident reports where the primary cause has been due to the pilot not monitoring airspeed because he/she was distracted by something else that was going on.Bruceb
Achh! Bruce! You make it sound like it is a bug!! It is not a bug in RealAir's cockpit views, which work perfectly....if you did not have EZCA. How can we be expected to make all our views compatible with a NON standard addon view software? Which though very good, EVERYONE would have to use in order for ALL views to be compatible. In this case, we have to make an aircraft that works fine with default FSX view settings/ assignments, which about a million FSX simmers use. When you say "A left click on the centre of the main panel that is supposed to bring up the GPS/radios has me looking at the throttles and there are similiar issues with the other views"...this is incredibly frustrating to read. Again you imply that it is OUR fault that these views are not what you expect, but you then do not acknowledge that these views are ENTIRELY because you use another piece of software for which we are not responsible and which the vast majority of FSX users also do not use.By this I am not intending to criticise EZCA. But one condition of using it is that of course it is going to change the available views we made strictly in accordance with Microsoft's SDK and which work WITHOUT ANY FLAWS whatsoever if you didn't use other software which change intended views in aircraft designed with love and care. I'm not having this issue... perhaps try temporarily uninstalling EZCA. I do use Track IR 5 and notice nothing out of the ordinary.

Using a Trackir 4 with a Trackclip Pro and Ezca 1.17. With EZCA, the views obtained by Rob's clickspots seem to be a bit lower than intended but still useable when you lift your head a bit. But the easiest way to solve the issue is to replace the clickspots by a new set of EZCA cameras and to assign a shortcut to each of them.

Hi. Thinking about upgrading from the original Duke. I had one question. Do the cockpit switches make a sound in this newer version? Just curious.

Unfortunatly I am a 2D panel guy, so as beautifull as it is, I have to pass. Too bad, I would have bought it in a heartbeat.
Ok, time to eat my words.A few friends of mine, who know I prefer 2D, bought the TDuke and convinced me to try it. Being a Beech fan, I bit the bullet, and all I can say is...Whoever came up with the idea of the 'left click/right click' should patent it!Thats the slickest thing since instant coffee and after a minute to set the zoom level on the radio view, Im hooked! We took an hours flight today and within just a few minutes I was completely at home in the plane.I would agree with another poster though, I wish there was a 'dirty' option for it. I dont mean trash on the floor or faded instrument panel, but wear and tear on the engine controls and koke would have been nice. I know the rational behind it's current look, but it IS an old plane and a bit of scratched paint wouldnt hurt :-)Well done RA, I'll be building my hours it in a lot, just as it is.

All FSX aircraft, by default, have only two or three switch sound channels, for the master or battery switch, and the fuel pump, and occasionally starter switches. This is hard coded and unalterable without creating custom switch sound programming, which is very complicated, but is something we want to do in the future. It requires a lot of extra work which would have taken us away from the core sim. But we're working on it.Rob - RealAir

Hi Bruce, I thought I should confirm that the view problems you are seeing are solely due to EZCA. I have only spent a very small amount of time with EZCA so if anything I write here is wrong somebody please correct me - From what I have seen EZCA can make changes to FSX and the aircraft installed into FSX that are lasting, and remain even after it has been disabled. There are two possible solutions to your problem:1. Reinstall the Turbine Duke again. This should fix the problems that EZCA has caused (though I'm not completely sure that will fix it because I'm not completely sure what settings EZCA has changed in your FSX setup).2. Create a custom EZCA setup for the Turbine Duke. However if you do that our left click/right click interface won't work properly. This is not something we have control over, because EZCA takes over the view system, which we cannot stop from happening - again I say that with only limited exposure to EZCA.What I can say for sure is that the view problem will not happen on a default FSX install without a third party view system such as EZCA. Unfortunately we have absolutely no control over what settings third party program change to FSX or to our aircraft when they are installed into FSX.Sean MoloneyRealAir Simulations.

Thanks for the response Rob. Appreciate it. Great work on the piston Duke. Wonderful plane to fly.
