March 7, 201115 yr Hey everyone....I decided to go with a fighter jet for fsx, so i'm between the Aerosoft F-16 and the VRS F/A-18.From what I heard, the VRS F/A-18 is much better, but i don't know why... as far as I saw, the F-16 have nearly all the systems simulatedso can you point out the pros and cons of each (like which systems are simulated in the F18 and the F16)Sorry I know it's a noob question, but i'm low on cash and don't want to waste it for something i regret later Planes are for people who can't fly helicopters...
March 7, 201115 yr Welcome, EgyptianPilot. :smile:I've bought that F-16 some years ago and you are definitely seeing and feeling a huge difference in the fidelity when going to the F-18 from VRS.We have to play fair since the Aerosoft product therefore is fairly old when compared to that state of the art F-18 from VRS. Also, the concept of the F-16 did not include all systems while the F-18 gives you as close to 100% as a civil flight sim based product can.It will also get an update concerning the weapons (TacPack) and maybe a Pro for the plane itself later.Switching between those two planes is like taking a look back (F-16) and taking a look on a very current and impressively modelled product (F-18), so if the "close to real" aspect is in your preference, only the F-18 can win. The VC alone (together with that collimated HUD) will amaze you and you're able to fine tune every option in appearance and performance there via this neat config tool.I don't think that you are able to find a disappointed VRS customer. I have to admit that the F-18 really made me becoming an interested customer for military stuff while the F-16 before was just for fun and never got used that much.As their price point will be very much the same, one can only recommend the F-18 in my eyes since you really get some impressive piece of software there, still being updated, fixed and expanded while the F-16 is in end of live and doesn't offer too much detail when compared. Still not a bad plane though.

March 7, 201115 yr I know that Iris offers a F-16 too which could be newer than the Aerosoft variant. So if you want to get a complete overlook, take her into account too. But, as you see, the impressions on the VRS F-18 all match the word "impressive" I think.
March 7, 201115 yr I own both and if I had to choose one I would definitely select the VRS F/A-18E. Shane Gavin
March 7, 201115 yr Author Thanks CooIP and audiohavoc, guess i will go with the VRS :D although i still will take a look on some reviews before i get it tomorrow :D Planes are for people who can't fly helicopters...
March 7, 201115 yr The VRS Superbug is the best and most accurately modeled military jet available for FSX and FS9. It blows the competition out of the water (and with the TacPack, that's actually rather literal too!) It blows the competition out of the water (and with the TacPack, that's actually rather literal too!)ALL the way.... the superbug.. the f-16 is nowwhere close to detail and intricate system simulation.. but even for that it is really quick to master the basics of engine startup fly, land and shutdown but the rest is a steep learning curve for the rest of the systems, but it is just awesome FBW jet. Nothing to compare.. just get the bug..!
March 7, 201115 yr +1 SuperBug. Cheers,Noel. 11th Gen i9-11900K @ 3.5GHz | nVidia GeForce RTX 3080 | Corsair 64 GB RAM | Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2TB | Asus 27" RoG G-Sync Track IR5 | Thrustmaster Warthog | CH Products Pedals
March 7, 201115 yr If you want the worst performing aircraft for FSX, get the F-16.If you want one of the best airplanes + excellent performance, get the F-18. MSFS
March 8, 201115 yr I have both of these add ons. And I totally agree with all that was written by the others. The VRS really is that good. It is miles ahead of the F-16 or any other add on for that matter. Just looking at it sitting on the runway gives you a clear idea how detailed that model is. It looks stunning from every angle and the performance is also amazing. Coming in on a full afterburner low pass with tower view is breathtaking. F-16 is not a bad model at all and great fun to fly. The visibility fom the cockpit is superb. At the end, if you are going to choose one, it has to be the Hornet. You will not regret it, at all.Happy flying.
March 8, 201115 yr I do not own the Aerosoft F-16 but I have been flying the VRS Superbug from the FS9 version and still loving it.The systems depth is amazing and so is the flight model. With the coming TAC pack, the weapons simulation will become even better. So my vote is for the VRS Superbug. Oh, their customer support is unheard off! Lennart
