an AA mode that's worth a try

Featured Replies

Hi gentlemen,Where can I find the FRAMES PRE-RENDER LIMIT to edit ?Jimmy
You will see the setting header about three quarters down on the GLOBAL SETTINGS PAGE. I usually is already set to three (3) unless you change it. I had it set for (0) because of another setting I was playing with, but set it back to (3) for this great A/A tip.
Logical because your bumping up the AA wayyyyyy up lol most systems the FPS hit will be hard and down the drain ;-)
Yeah..but what a payout! Also, you can run with this down to 18 FPS and still have fluid performance. I am when it does take a dive. Usually with this though, I run at 25-30 FPS. It only dips here and there over built up cities. I would never go back from this...uh uh. Also, as stated...FS9's planes look photogenic. On an American Airlines 737-400 my jaw dropped to the desktop with how absolutely real it looked up there on the screen. Wow....

It would be awesome if someone could post a couple of screenshots, or even better HD vids comparing this mode vs 8xSQ for example, in a recorded flight or something. I'm not sure what I see in full screen is even this 4v12 AA or not, cause I can't tell it from 8xSQ really

For those of you struggling to get this to work, I managed to fix it by deleting the FSX profile in Inspector, creating a new one, assigning FSX to it and reconfiguring everything. The mode looks better than 8xSQ for sure, so vielen dank!

Another setup worth a look (props to Cristopher) is 4x Sparse Grid Supersampling Transparency Antialiasing.Only for top of the line video cards (OCed GTX480 - GTX480 - GTX580) since frames dip down to the low 20's in clouds with my new GTX480 (or at least I think so, because fraps readings are higher: 25 - 30 FPS, weird)It's only 8xS AA, but 4xSGSS makes up for it... it looks great to me with no AG shimmering whatsoever... try it out guys:2pz0847.png

I have a feeling that the drop in fps in clouds could be due to a higher BP setting. I do not see a drop in fps with a BP setting of BP=30000.I was wondering if others were using high BP settings. BTW, I have been deleting the profiles and creating my own since Inspector introduced the feature.

I'm just using a standard RejectThreshold. Will try with different BP configs

What´s the standard setting?

Dario,Try just BP setting. Not both settings.

Ok, I'm back home now and going to do some tests with BP=30000, BP=0... won't be mixing BP & RT@Superpilotv2: My current RejectThreshold is 131072

What does this setting do? For what it´s worth adding it to FSX.cfg?

It's an alternative to BP=0. Almost the same, if not exactly the same performance boost, but without artifacts or stability issues. IIRC, the lower the RejectThreshold the closer to BP=0 it behaves

First off, sorry about participating in this hijack...But from what I read from our resident FSX expert Bojote, RejectThreshold sets the maximum size for a command/vertex set that can be added to the BufferPool. If a command/vertex set size exceeds the RT, it is sent off to the graphics processor immediately, i.e. as if BP=0 as mentioned above. My discovered sweet spot is BP=150000 together with RT=98304, which results in near BP=0 like performance (usually). What was suprising is that this worked well with my gtx 275, and my gtx 560 ti needs it the same way. BP=0 seems to work well with the 200 series drivers as long as you don't saturate the GPU (usually by having 'high' FPS with too much eyecandy); I'd guess that the roll of the BP is to 'bottleneck' the data flow to the graphics processor so it won't saturate as readily. </hijack>

With 4xSGSS fps drop is way to much with my GTX480, because sparse grid modes doesn't filter only transparent textures but also the whole scenery. :Shame On You: AA_MODE_METHOD_SUPERVCAA_64X_4v12 works even better with fantastic IQ und frames on my system.

You'll need to set your AF to app controlled, or 4x and antialiasing to 8xS or 8xSQ to run 4xSGSS .Truth is it's a trade off. With 4xSGSS autogen looks better (and some gauges in the PMDG MD11 too, so I guess it's not just AG), but with SUPERVCAA_64X_4v12 scenery looks better, and 4xSGSS hits frames harder so yeah, I think I'll stick with SUPERVCAA_64X_4v12 or 16xS. In good weather it's possible to run SUPERVCAA_64X_4v12 and 8xSGSS... and that looks really good.

After playing around all week with Inspector settings, A few guys from the VA came up with these settings.clipboard01.jpg Again if you do change your settings marked the old ones down, this way you can go back to your old settings if these dont work for you! We also have AA selected in FSX!!!
