Aerosoft not to support MS Flight?

Hi,With just about every update from X-plane, prior items don't work. I hope Aerosoft is ready to keep patching their products every time there is an X-Plane update.
A lot of 3rd party dev's say the same thing. They would support it more if they didnt keep braking things each patch. We are not talking about going from v 8 to 9, but 8.0001 to 8.0002 brakes a lot of aircraft, so 3rd party dev's constantly need to fix there own products. It drives away a lot of developers from making X-Plate stuff.

Judging by the lack of progress I think it's reaasonable to deduce Aerosoft has neither the funding nor the partners to make any progess. It certainly doesn't yet have an engine. Mathijs Kok (Aerosoft) on 21 October 2009 said

Before the end of the year this will be discussed with the partners we have selected for the game engine. Selection of that is the next big step.
and on 12 May 2011 he said
The biggest problem remains the engine. We are simply not able to find any that does all we want and is handled by a big enough partner. So it´s not on hold, but it is not moving at warp speed.

I tried Mathiijs Kok's FSX settings and they were garbage. Any self respecting FSX guru would never have published those settings. Honestly, I have always taken everything he's said with a grain of salt.
I don't understand why people still get so hung up about this trivial issue. Yes indeed, for serious simmers the FSX settings Mathijs suggested are mostly garbage but what is it that makes you think he was directing his comments at the serious simmer crowd which makes up less than 10% of Aerosoft's total market? The vast majority of Aerosoft's customers are exactly those on lower to mid level gpu's who will be very happy to turn on DX10 preview and squeeze out just enough fps to run their addons. As if they care about AA, AF or anything resembling a fsx.cfg tweak.Furthermore, what kind of a twit would tell his target market that the only way to succesfully run FSX + addons is to buy a high end pc then spend days setting it up as per NickN's instructions, not to mention getting their heads around Bojote's tweaks? To be clear I personally swear by NickN's OS and FSX set up guides but they are hardly appropriate for the vast majority of casual simmers who pick up their addons at their local hobby store and expect them to be plug n' play.

If they don't care about AA or AF, then they will have to be prepared to put up with rough looking graphics.

I've been reading these forums for years and decided to post something after reading all the speculation about 3rd party developers, so here goes!I had a walk through tour of a major hardware developers shop floor back before FSX was released. The owner/CEO was showing some of his products for a commercial venture I was launching at the time, and to my surprise he had a full copy of FSX running on a test PC. This was in March/April 2006. I had been following the release since we were looking at the platform for our integrated product, but I didn't expect this company (which was under an NDA from MS) would have had access to FSX that much prior to release. I remember thinking MS must be only a few weeks away from release. To this day I'm not sure he was supposed to keep that secret or not, so I didn't ask questions at the time. But that business relationship showed me that MS reaches out to hardware and software developers very early on in the new product cycle. I'm convinced companies like PMDG have been under an NDA for many months, if what happened with FSX is any indication. I have no idea what's going on with Aerosoft, but it could be that they weren't included in the initial "reach-out" but MS about Flight (possibly due to Aerosoft attempting to launch their own flight sim) and that's created some bad buzz. Makes perfect sense they would claim not to support (or be "impressed with") Flight. But that's just speculation on my part.Josh

+1 As I said in other thread I can't see Flight been released with nothing for sale in their store so of course developers have to be in the loop with MS from the beginning and that mean way before MS announced Flight, you just don't come out with an anouncement about a store without knowing who will make add-ons to be sold in it.Your speculations make a lot of sense, you can see that 2 + 2 = 4.

Man, I wouldn't touch Aerosoft's stuff with a stick, even if they offered it for free......Apart from this statement about not going with Flight (yeah cool, do what you like, I could care less), I read recently something on their forums a statement from Mathijs Kok about them being "reluctant to offer updates when there is a boxed stock of product out there".In other words, they won't offer an update for a product even if the update is good, since the customer "has a feeling" of buying an outdated boxed product. :( :( Another thing, their treatment of their customers - last thing I would like to feel on MY skin.Alone thing is the Amsterdam airport, which has been repeatedly reported as low FPS airport (and not by one user only), they STILL claim everything's alright. That guy Shaun Fletcher is repeatedly claiming it's normal. Pile of horseshit if you ask me...Aerosoft...As this guy already said:

:( NO!

Ouch, that's really a first. However, I can see their point of view, and I think it's more geared towards retailers than end users, because it's retailers that don't like to stock something that is "outdated" and, it's not nice for a retailer having to reply to a customer that just bough a brand new box "go here, and download a patch", even if it's standard practice on PC software. As a retailer of boxed product too, I can understand the reasoning behind this, even if it looks bad for the download customers, who are accustomed to frequent updates and surely not worried about downloading stuff. In any case, I believe this is just a momentary conflict because we are in a transition phase, which will inevitably lead to the death of physical products, when there's a digital alternative, it's fairly obvious the direction things are going:Apple likely pulling boxed software from stores:http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2379668,00.aspAmazon now sells more Ebook than physical books ( this IS BIG, and I really didn't expected it would happened so fast ):http://techcrunch.com/2011/05/19/that-was-fast-amazons-kindle-ebook-sales-surpass-print-it-only-took-four-years/Steam constant growing success, leading to 1B$ revenues in 2010:http://gameinfowire.com/news.asp?nid=15556Borders filling for bankruptcy:http://webbeat.tv/borders-preparing-for-bankruptcy-another-victim-to-the-digital-age/ Without forgetting how Netflix KILLED Blockbuster and iTunes basically killing the record stores. So, as a retailer of boxed products (but also as a seller of digital downloadable products), I'm fairly sure boxed products will die soon, the world is changing and, that's the direction the whole industry is going. Which means, it doesn't make any sense to base a business strategy on boxed product now, in 2011. To quote the Sean Parker character from The Social Network movie: "Do you want to buy a Tower Records right now?"

Umberto, I understand your point of view.I also think it's rather annoying for the retailer to have to explain the update. But seriously, I'm a manager of the electronics store, and I personally have NO trouble explaining my customers why and where to get an update. They are 99% of the time very thankful for that. Some ask why is there no last update, explanation is very easy and understandable. That boxed software is dying, thank God... less garbage on this planet. They should push it further.I'm just waiting for the day where a customer only gets a coupon and link for the download of the software. But still doesn't give Aerosoft the right to keep updates away from customers when something goes wrong to protect the retailers. It's in the end not the retailer of whom Aerosoft is making its living.

Maybe Aerosoft know more about the next version of X Plane than you do ... I'm guessing they do, love em or hate em, Aerosoft are not stupid, they are shrewd business men.Agreed though, X-plane would need to change some of its habits to be more successful and its seems highly probable that's what they intend to do.I for one am glad MS flight sim has some competition again.

I agree 1000% percent with just about everything you just said. I dont care much for their constant "its you, not us" attitude, meaning when there are performance issues with their products its always a problem with the users computer and that the scenery works fine on their computers.
