Aerosoft not to support MS Flight?

Featured Replies

HelloAerosoft really have no other options open to them than to switch support to XPlane 10Having set themselves up as a direct competitor to MS by prematurely announcing that they were building a Flightsimthey then find that MS is still in the game with a new version complete with online store. As a direct competitor they will probably have been left out of the loop as far as MS flight is concerned, so time to switch horses.

Surely that would make them more of a direct competitor to X-Plane? since at the time they announced their sim, there was no MS sim, only X-Plane.Al

HelloIf Aerosoft cannot get it products into the MS online marketplace on account of setting itself up as a direct competitor the future of its own online shop and product line will be in jeopardy, Hence the announcement of support and development for XP10.Bridges well and truly burnt, not great business from Mr Koch.

Did anyone really believe that Aerosoft would/could develop a new flight simulator?I don't believe Microsoft is in the least concened about this proposal by Aerosoft and would let Aerosoft use it's on line market. After all Microsoft will make money from whatever is sold there.

Is it me? Am I thick or what? It's an MS store, not an all developers store, so who will decide who will sell in their store...yes MS.Everybody here is saying (almost everybody :( ) that if you have a NDA with MS you can't say you have one and you can't say you don't... right...? So starting from there when you read something like... "What MS is doing does not interest us a lot".... and... "Might change of course but right now we do not have any resources on projects for MS Flight" HELLO!! What does that tell you? They don't care about Flight and they are saying it......and they have a NDA...of course they do...NOT."Approved" developers will sell in MS store, hummm! who can they be?? ....the one working with MS right now...do you remember reading this?"we are creating the tools and facilities to enable external content to all users.....we recognize we can't do it all!!!"Developpers in the loop. Do you think Aerosoft is helping MS??This time MS is in to make money on addons sold in their store and they will, at the same time, let somebody who is talking about building their own sim. or supporting Xplane-10 sell in their store? :( I can't wait to shop in the MS store to buy my Xplane-10 add-ons... :( EDIT: @ mgh, I agree with your statement...QUOTE: Did anyone really believe that Aerosoft would/could develop a new flight simulator?I don't believe Microsoft is in the least concened about this proposal by Aerosoft and would let Aerosoft use it's on line market. END OF QUOTE.Aerosoft would need to find solid and I mean SOLID back up $ wise to pull this one off (simulator) and for what, a small part of the market?

Aerosoft don't just develop simulators for entertainment, they are also a serious professional simulator development company. Go to the Aerosoft site, and on the main page you will see a hyperlink to 'Aviatech', which is the 'serious' bit of Aerosoft. When they were considering making a Flight simulator, it was with an eye toward two markets - entertainment and serious simulation, i.e. a bit like FSX and Prepar3d - and that makes it a very much more lucrative proposition worth throwing an investment at if you are a business angel investing in aviation technology. Their simulator proposition was never about simply being a toy. From the Aviatech website: 'The department AVIATECH within the Aerosoft GmbH offers High-End graphic solutions for the professional simulaton. AVIATECH's main focus is set on the creation of 3D-Objects. Working with a worldwide team of more than 20 competent and experienced 3D-Designers we deliver data in Open Flight or 3D Studio Max. Our customers include airlines, simulator manufacturers and the international armaments industry'That's a bit more than making toy aerolanes, isn't it? Think a bunch of arms dealers and airlines can't afford a couple of million bucks?Al

For the avoidance of doubt I should have said "...let Aerosoft use it's on line market for Flight products"

Why should anyone think that Aerosoft's customers are interested in developing an flight simulator? I suggest that airlines, simulator manufacturers and the international armaments industry could easily find better investment opportunities than developing a computer game - especially the international arms industry..

Gerry Howard

They probably aren't really that interested in developing one, but my reply was in response to the notion that Aerosoft would struggle to find anyone willing to invest at all, rather than suggesting such clients would be the only possible source for investment. This is a notion which does not take into account that with contacts outside of the entertainment flight sim world, they not limited to making money back off a sim solely from knocking out copies at fifty quid a go to PC-based flight simmers who want to drive a pretend Cessna around. One look at what Lockheed Martin have done with what is essentially FSX - it being touted as a multi-mode mission simulator - is enough know that there is a lot you can do with such a thing - from demo simulations of the latest shiny missiles, to simple procedure sims and such, i.e. arms companies and airlines might indeed be interested in it, so it is not a stretch to imagine that if Aerosoft are already talking to such people, that this could be one of the things they actually talk about, and might possibly agree to offer some funding if a return on it seemed likely and the outlay was small for them or an associate. The potential for a sim to suit many types of application and customer, and spread the method to recoup development costs, is quite apparent.I'm not claiming any of this is a certainty, merely that Aerosoft will potentially have more than one iron in the fire if they make a sim.Al

I heard that he took all the credit for some else's idea. :(
I tried Mathiijs Kok's FSX settings and they were garbage. Any self respecting FSX guru would never have published those settings. Honestly, I have always taken everything he's said with a grain of salt.

I have no problem with that, my point is that building a Flight simulator from scratch is not as easy as one would think...here is a quote from Mathijs...http://forum.aerosoft.com/index.php?/topic/45525-afs-2012/"AFS is most certainly not cancelled, it is discussed a lot and a lot of our internal developments are adapted for it. The biggest problem remains the engine. We are simply not able to find any that does all we want and is handled by a big enough partner."The magic word here is PARTNER. = $$

From what I know of Aerosoft, the money problem may not necessarily be that there is no partner with which to team up, but maybe a case of Aerosoft not wanting to pay much to do so. I do know developers that have been approached by Aerosoft and offered less than spectacular deals in exchange for the exclusive rights to their add-on. Of course there is nothing wrong with driving a hard bargain, it's only common sense to try and get the best deal that you can, but there you go. Can't blame 'em for that though I suppose, they are a business, not a charity.Al

As a business man myself I can say + 1 to what you just posted.

Hi,With just about every update from X-plane, prior items don't work. I hope Aerosoft is ready to keep patching their products every time there is an X-Plane update.
