June 1, 201115 yr Commercial Member They're desperate to keep the A380 crews current so you see them a lot at the more major airports in Europe doing short haul.Best regards,Robin.
June 1, 201115 yr That was a personal opinion. Some people may like that, others may not care, and others, like me, don't like to lose the control over the aircraft due to the full automation of the systems. Some people may like that, others may not care, and others, like me, just don't like the design of Airbus's airplanes. This sounds like a oft repeated bit derived from airliners.net to me. I was just curious as to whether you have any first hand experience with either type, or were just repeating something you had read on the internet. It's a bit like comparing the driving experience of a BMW and a Mercedes when you've only sat in the passenger seat of them.I traveled on two Qantas A380's a couple months ago and yes the A380 is very suprisingly quiet. I mean I expected it to be quiet but not this much! Although... I have flown on many 744's and truthfully I prefer the extra noise, though the comfort (seating, entertainment system etc) of the A380.It's too quiet, IMO. I had no problems hearing the gentlemen sitting 5 rows behind me snore his way across the south pacific. Sometimes a little drone and hum is a good thing.-john rodgers
June 1, 201115 yr i actually got a chance to fly an A320 lvl D sim and boy she is easy to fly..It honestly flies it self. The auto trim is a godsend the throttle management system is great..It makes flying profiles a breeze.Jamal Pratt Jamal Pratt Eastern Operations Manager| www.legend-virtual.org
June 1, 201115 yr If anyone joins the airlines for 'hands on flying'..then you're misinformed! Airbus or no airbus the fact of the job is that, that sort of flying is limited..for many many reasons...the reason people knock this is because they don't know the 'job description' of what we do...why wouldn't it be pro automation? If you want hands on flying then the airlines are NOT for you, A320 or 737!That said, the flying we do is great fun! Just don't expect it all the time, sadly that's not our job mostly!I can understand this debate between the A320 and the 737...but it wont be valid when the 777 comes along Rgds - Sam Harridann
June 1, 201115 yr That being said, it is counter intuitive to me when an aircraft doesn't fly like all of the others.Be prepared for a steep learning curve when you start flying then!! Rgds - Sam Harridann
June 2, 201115 yr .....and then I suddenly saw her--for the 1st time. Pictured today at KSFO. She looks better in person. She is sleek, graceful and doesn't appear as large as she really is ......but that damn forehead! It's a complete turn-off! And yet her forehead doesn't have to be like that. It needs paint (the forehead)! Lot's of it! Hell, why not put the company logo over that bald spot? If it was up to me I'd put some racing flames over it, from the cockpit windows back.I've been on a spotting roll over the past couple weeks: the a380, for the 1st time today and the 748-I a couple of weeks ago at San Jose Intl. June 2, 201115 yr Commercial Member I have some sim Airbus time (FSX, can';t fly a real one yet :( and I must say the systems are incredible. I am a Boeing guy, but I still like Airbus, Collin Biedenkapp Chief Executive Officer TFDi Design (Invernyx) | Website
June 2, 201115 yr Be prepared for a steep learning curve when you start flying then!! I've made it this far! Game on! Besides, chances are I'll be on a 'bus anyway when I finally go major. :rolleyes:But seriously, you know what I meant! All of you Airbus drivers are the same... :( ___________________________________________________________________________________ Zachary Waddell -- Caravan Driver -- Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/zwaddell Avsim ToS Avsim Screenshot Rules

(ksjc)I think the only design flaw the A380 has is that they should have put a set of cockpit windows on the upper deck. Can you imagine how much they could have charged First Class passengers for the front row seats that had a Pilot's view?

Can you imagine how much they could have charged First Class passengers for the front row seats that had a Pilot's view? ROFL Man, I'd pay a lil extra for that ride. Maybe we'll see it on the A389? June 2, 201115 yr Flew out of Dubai on the 26th of last month to Rome on the 777-300. Pretty quiet, but fly's at fl340 or fl360, while the same trip later on in the day in the A330-200 does fl380, or fl400. I think both sides have pretty good tubes, and as I am not a pilot, it all boils down to how comfy the seat is, the food offering, and of course what is on the screen to pass away the time.I saw three or four A380's that morning, and I have to agree that they look bad from some angles. Keep in mind though that the idea before the wiring debacle, and the disintegration of the world economy was to offer the -900 series, which I believe would look much more majestic.Pretty soon, the third (terminal 4) terminal will be done, and you will be able to see quite a number (120 on order) lazing around.
