What if the Flight computer wasn't connected to the Internet?
You play with your Flight default you got from the store, can you be in a virtual world without been connected to the internet?
Yup...Microsoft has already said that Flight can be run without internet.
Exactly, Flight can be run without internet, the virtual world can't and that's the beauty of it, you "wanna" play you pay...$$$ for addons.

Why could something like a usb drive be included with a code that would only alow add ons to work if the devise was plugged into the machine and it verify the equipment match much like MS loads info about our systems and complains when we install new equipment. Just brain stormingEdit...thinking of the CD version

So you just shut out all those users who have a laptop, travel a lot, are stationed in other countries, etc. Doesn't look like opening up Flight to the casual simmer to me. Glad you don't work for MS!!

Sorry you are correct. As I said, just an idea. Not sure why you want to be rude. :(

Nothing has changed. FSX can be run without an internet connection as well. Imagine Flight1 or SimMarket as your online store. Even with Microsoft Flight's online store, piracy would still be possible, I'm sure. The add-ons are installed somewhere on the computer. (likely where they always have been) It's just a matter of a pirate locating the add-on and then uploading it on an illegal site.

bet i am older than you .... I cant you believe you said games of old didnt have problems or a need to be patched.I  Puts doubt on you being in the business .. sorry!
Perhaps you are older. Perhaps your memory is failing, because there was a time when there was no internet. In those days a game was bought and it worked. If you had a bad CD or worse, diskettes, you sent away for a replacement. How were the "patches" distributed then? Ever had a patch for those console games that came on ROMs?The answer is that games had bugs, but nothing serious, as quality control was far better then.

I don't remember patches-only games that didn't work. But then we had a cassette tape and could feed the whole operating system/backup on the computer in 30 minutes and everything would be like new.I do pine for those days before registrys...

:( Follow me here, have you ever play poker online? You login to lets say Pokerstars (Flight) and you sit at a table in a specific room (your airplane in the virtual world) with other players (friends simmers) everybody gets cards (addons) but the only cards you see is your own (addons you paid for) and you all playing, so if you get in the Flight virtual world you'll see Flight default + the addons you paid for, the cards (addons) are not installed somewhere on your computer but you can see them everytime you login to Pokerstars (Flight), if not you play solitaire (Flight) you got from the store as you already installed it on your computer.

Now you're just confused. Imagine if you had add-on scenery that covered all of, say, Australia. Now, when you go log in and fly in Flight, the bits and pieces of scenery data have to be brought from the internet into the flight sim. Now, what kind of an impact would this have visually, and performance wise? Probably a quite noticeable one. The only way for things to work is for the add-on to be installed onto YOUR computer.Add-ons are huge. We all know that some aircraft can be around 100-300MB, and scenery can be over 1 GB. Imagine how long it would take for all that data to be loaded so that you could fly! Now, you could have a set up where you have the add-on installed on your computer, but in order for it to show in Flight, you log in. This kind of set up could still likely be cracked by pirates.

I didnt say they got patched .. but they sure did need them.   QC today is much better. You have to consider the QC on a number of bugs per 1MB of code. and also the number of bad disks/floppies per 1000 units sold.  Under these criteria its obvious that todays QC is better.Actually, QC is better today in just about 100% of all industries....
I don't know how much of FSX will be in Flight but looking at the pics one can tell that we are seeing some of the same stuff in Flight from FSX like oversized houses and trees, they may be fixing some of these problems as we speak and that will be a good thing but it's obvious (to me) that MS started building Flight from the same FSX engine, again how much of FSX will be used in Flight...I don't know.As far as backward compatibility goes and again this is only MHO, where is the money for the developers and MS if they allow you to use your FSX addons in Flight? Why a store?
Actually I see much better sized autogen in the screens of Flight in the FSX/Flight comparison thread. And regarding the store, if FSX SP2/Acceleration addons would be compatible with Flight I think they still need some kind of upgrade. The developer can then use the store to charge you for that.

Cheers, Bert

You would have a point....assuming that Flight addons are available as soon as Flight itself is released. If they are NOT available, then backwards compatibility with FSX addons would (IMO) improve sales of Flight.
