Exactly. But what I quoted is what Microsoft actually said on the record. I'd love to see any similar on the record statements about the enhancements
As no one has responded I assume Microsoft didn't make any on the record statements about enhancements in PC Pilot?

The biggest thing for me is performance. We can talk about features until the cows come home but if there is not a dramatic increase in performance underlying any new features then I am not in the slightest bit interested in Flight.Secondary to performance is interest in add-ons, to be honest I have now invested so much in FSX that I will be loathe to make any immediate switch to Flight, especially with increases in new hardware performance which soon will hopefully give the peformance from FSX which I demand.Thirdly is MS's attitude to not just existing customers of FSX but new adopters of Flight. Some may be forgiving of the way they dumped FSX while fixes were still needed but I am not. As far as I am concerned MS now have their "card marked" and I will be watching them closely. No change of attitude equals no buy from me.Bryan.

HelloThat will be me out then. Many of us use Fsuipc to program our hardware devices and interface with third party addons, If I could not get all my hardware set up then I would have no use for MS Flight.Looks like this one will not be any use to anyone building a cockpit.Goflight will no doubt have a driver and utility shortly after release but it is the homegrown hardware that will miss Fsuipc.

alainneedle1, all your ideas to stop piracy are futile for this type of program. Most anti-piracy measures are at worst a waste of resources and at best a nuisance to the legitimate end user. You were on track with a server based system in which essential game files NEED to be accessed from a secure server each time you launch the game, these files don't need to be big at all, maybe a few kb so even people with slow connections can play. The problem here though is that I (and I'm sure I'm not alone) wont buy a game that becomes a paperweight when I don't have internet, Rise of Flight had a similar system to this and as much as I enjoyed the demo I didn't give it a second thought because of the need to connect to a server each time I play. So a company may stop someone pirating their product, but they have also lost a customer so are they really winning or just fooling themselves.

Thank you for your post, at least you understand what I was trying to get at.I understand exactly what you are saying about how a pain in the neck it can be for the need to connect to a server each time you play but it's the way to stop piracy as much as possible, remember that MS is targeting the pops and moms and these are the new bread and butter for MS and the developers, not us as they already have us in the bag so to speak. The pops and moms DO NOT understand the technical aspect of a game (fsx.CFG files and tweaks) as we do, so they just want to get in and fly. Also don't forget that MS said that you will not need a connection to play Flight, the connection to a server may push some peoples away but how many more new simers will take their places?Flight virtual world make a lot of sense to me as MS stated that they were targeting a new kind of players.....these new simmers will just have to set Flight to connect to the server automatically and enjoy the ride....Will this happen or will this not...we'll see at the release of FLIGHT ....until then stay tuned....:(

It is hard to believe that the Flight Sim community will continue without FSUIPC. I don't know Mr. Pete but his love and devotion to us simmers is very well known. I am 64 years old and can understand why he needs to cut the string and enjoy life a bit. I would think that he could very easily sell his programs to another developer or company. If that should happen then I would think that he would be very picky about who he selected. If there is anyone who has our best interest at heart then that would be Pete.

I think to a degree we are all over anal-izing the future of Flight. If we take MS at their word, they have said they want to appeal to a wide group of users. There are folks who want to use Flight on the Ipads and then there is a guy I read about some where with a home cockpit 747 worth 400 or 500 thousand dollars. The only way I can see MS reaching out to that many needs would be something like Flight, Flight Advanced, and Flight Professional. Then we could all pick the spot we need to be in to enjoy the hobby. It would solve many problems, and also for the developers, three levels of income based on the effort required to produce an add on.

Like in another thread, lets just get one version of Flight correct without having MS worry about multiple versions.

As an AT&T user that now has to deal with a traffic cap, I'll take the old model where you download the data once and it stays on my hard drive, instead of having to download it in the background during play.
That's not how it would work so don't worry about it.

We aren't talking about essential game files. We are talking about add-ons. No matter what, add-ons are going to be huge if they are going to have HD textures, high poly models, etc. You can't easily or efficiently pack 1GB into a little few KB file.

Don't get me wrong, I completely understood what you were getting at, I was just saying that, unfortunately, it can't easily work. :wink:The Windows Live client is being used in Flight for two things...1. Multiplayer/online flying with friends2. Add-on StoreAs I've said before, add-ons take a long time to download depending on size. I just don't think that there will be much of an advantage in the end if it takes a few hours for an add-on to finally appear in the sim each time you want to fly it.

I know of no anti-piracy (DRM) scheme which involves downloading this much data each time the user wants to access the product. It is always done by accessing a secure server which verifies the user's permission to access the product and then allows/denies access based on said permission.

Huges, it's not about downloading the addons into your computer, it's having the addons unlocked so you can fly over the scenery or in the plane you paid for.I don't really know if that can be accomplished, I'm just trying to picture a virtual world in a secure server where you can choose lets say Alaska from a developer who makes it and after buying it it's then unlocked to you so you can Fly over it, you want to add an airport...choose one from a developer who make the airport you want, buy it, and again it's unlocked to you.My comparaison with the card game was to say that everybody has access to the cards, if you pay to play you have access to the cards, none of the cards are downloaded to your PC, everybody has their own cards but you can only see yours, the one you paid for, you want to keep going in the game you pay again and you get more cards, it's like buying addons, you want more of them you pay for it and they are unlocked to you for you to see.Listen, that scenario of mine may never happen but if I was MS or a developer I'll be thinking real hard about that.

It seems to me that what you are describing already exists. It is a form of on-line activation, the form that many people despise. Each time you want to use your add-ons, you must have access to this secure server and have your installation of the add-ons authenticated.

There's bound to be some give-and-take in the consumer/producer relationship. In the specific case of software (or other digital media), the producer will desire to protect their intellectual property and this often involves some kind of DRM scheme. Platforms like Steam or itunes offer excellent examples of "DRM done right" in that they tend to just work. Occasionally glitches occur and there may be some downtime for the consumer, but that's the price we pay in the modern digital era.
