NGX Single Engine Taxi

Featured Replies

Will the same single engine taxi be possible on a 727 with only the middle engine running?

Best regards, Steffen

Yes, single engine taxi works. Takes a bit more throttle to get going but it does work.Pete Mac PaintPMDG Graphic Designer

I know that FS9 was always bad about being able to simulate single engine taxi due to not being able to truly simulate hydraulic nose wheel steering and such, but I have had a bit of success doing single engine taxi's with a few payware planes over the years.I just upgraded to FSX a few days ago, only have 1 payware plane on so far so I haven't really had time to experiment.I'm curious if any of the devs or testers for the NGX have tried to perform a single engine taxi before takeoff or after landing and if so, how well do the flight dynamics of FSX allow it to be done?I know the systems modeling of the NGX will allow it to work perfectly if the plane is set up correctly; its always been the flight dynamics of the sim that cause problems in the past...

I'm not sure what there is to see, on the exterior anyway.

Hahah single taxi works with my B-717 project. Just wanted to try it out on fsx so I used CTRL+E to start the engines but one only started. I was in the VC and there is no gauges yet so I couldn't tell with the sound only that I was running one engine. But I noticed that it required twice more thrust to get moving. So I only found out when I was about to enter the runway and I went to the outside view to check the animations of the different parts where I noticed only one engine was running :(.

Many airlines only taxi with one engine as to save fuel. The Delta A330 I was on from Madrid-JFK taxxied on one engine. But most especially the Delta 757 leaving JFK performed the famous 45-min taxi on one engine, effeciency matter there!
You can taxi for 45 minutes at JFK? Jeez, I thought 10 minutes was bad at YSSY from Terminal 2 to RWY 34L.

Generally you will not find a taxi of that long... there can be a line at the runway or your gate may not be ready for your flight but generally no. The only 45+ minute taxi (it was like 2 hours) that I have been in (that I can remember) was in a huge line at LGA and when there were weather delays and they actually shut off both engines but it is better safe than sorry and LGA can get VERY congested.

Yup. I was on a flight from ORD-MKE on an EGF Embraer, and the taxi time to get out of O'Hare was 39 minutes and the flight time was only 19 minutes, so the taxi time actually exceeded the flight time. Ironic huh? F/A kept making jokes that "We might as well be driving the plane to Milwaukee."

JFK is the most conviluded airport in the world. Getting on a 757 a few years back, after returning from Vienna via Budapest, the put us in teh plane, and it took ATC 72mins to authorize pushback. The JFK waits are longer than ever, you'd never imagine!

Haha that's crazy but I do believe that once the DL rennovations are over, especially with the added isolated parking stands where T3 is now, the airport will flow a lot better.

Well they just put too many gates on the old Pan Am terminal Delta has now, nobody could design a more corrupt and disorganized terminal

When does an NG taxi on a single engine... I've never seen this on any 737 I've ever been on.
It's sop at US Airways. Our 737-300/400 do it most of the time. It depends on the flight crew though.

At EDDW I once saw a Ryanair 737-800 doing a single engine taxi to their stand. But the interesting thing was, they shut the second engine down while still rolling. The last 30-50m the only thing you could hear was the APU.But they only use their Airstairs so they can stop where ever they want. They do whatever they can to save money ;-)

Isn't Airbus putting an electrical motor into the front landing gear which is powered by a little fuel cell? I believe they are going to test it very soon or testing it already. Next to saving fuel while taxing or waiting on the taxi way it will allow the airplane to push back on its own as well, so no need for a pushback truck anymore, which will save operation costs as well. On top of it it will reduce noise as well since the engines only need to be started at the holding point of the rwy and can be shut down right after landing. I find this idea very interesting.Norbert Plate

I wouldn't be surpised if Ryanair shut one down at TOD in order to save a few bucks...
