I've lived in Phoenix for 19 almost 20 years and I don't remember dust storms that big (50 miles wide and 3000 feet high I heard). But dust storms during the monsoon season can occur occasionally.
Oh, ok then. Northeast Texas isn't quite desert country, so I'd never seen anything like that. Worst we get are tornadoes tongue.gif

I thought I heard at one point it was as high as 9000ft. That was before it reached Phoenix, though rolleyes.gif

Being from Northern Canada, where the only desert we see is dunes of snow, the first thing that came to my mind when I seen haboob! (Mistaking the ! for an i) was this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r62_qMog1Mw&feature=related

Could've been. But I did see a SW 737 land right before it hit the airport.

I saw on the news a plane going into the storm!! can a plane fly in a sand storm?
The private jet I was on ( a Falcon Dassault 2000) did when we flew into Damascus last year.I must say that it wasen't of the magnitude of the Phoenix Storm above but we couldn't see anything!I was surprised because I always tought you couldn't, but we did and I'm still alive to tell... :(...thank God!

LMAO.gif Hahaha well put. But yeah you deserve some serious compensation. I feel like the phrase "the customer is always right" just doesn't apply on these forums as it appears that in many cases the customers are indeed very wrong.Regards

Best regards, happy flying,

Wallace

I wouldn't say they are wrong, per se. I think they are just horrendously ill-tempered and anything they don't agree with they get mad at.
