Incredible Freeware Sceneries

Featured Replies

Looking over the nominees for the AVSIM awards for 2011, I saw reference to a freeware scenery producer I had never heard of known as LHSimulations. After downloading them, I have to tell you all, THEY ARE INCREDIBLE! There are three FS9 sceneries as well as FSX and even X-Plane offerings. The FS9 sceneries are three former Warsaw Pact airfields in Hungary and they are among the best sceneries I have ever seen, period! What really got me was not only the detail and "immersion" of them, but they really have a "semi-abandoned" feel to them. Old crumbling concrete bunkers, unused hardstands with weeds growing through the cracks, incredibly realistic hardened aircraft shelters that really do look like they are covered in grass sod and not just colored green - and one of them has a derelict Mig 17 that made me gasp! You definitely want to check these out - they are gems full of atmosphere and lots of surprises! Fire up your favorite helo and fly low and slow and discover all they have to offer. No FPS hit on my system at all....http://www.lhsimulations.hu/?lang=enYou will be amazed, I promise. WOW! :( Ian

Thanks for the tip. I love their sceneries - in fact, I'm not sure why they were not nominated for an award. And VTBD has a special place in my heart. Long ago I delivered NZ Aerospace CT4A Airtrainers from NZ to the Thai Air Force. Seeing the runway at Don Muang was always a thrill after a very long, (5 legs/4-5 days) blisteringly hot (huge clear canopy) and sometimes frightening trip. (Single engine over thousands of miles of ocean and Australian outback). But an AC hotel, wonderful food and those beautiful Thai girls were there at the end of the trip so VTBD is definitely on my list of airports with loads of nostalgia in FS9Thanks mateIan

thanks for the heads up.. can Debrecen take a 747 classic?

I don´t think so. It has a very narrow runway.

Thanks Ian,I agree - great scenery (and it's free!). I wonder how many other great pieces of freeware scenery are out there that we just don't know about?!Bill

They look fantastic -- bookmarked for later download. Thanks to both yourself (for the pointer) & LHSimulations (for the product) ;)Detail is impressive; any word on framerate issues?

I'm glad you are all enjoying them - I hope many other simmers read this post and try them out. They are among the absolute top FS9 sceneries I have ever seen. One thing I am doing, which has been a lot of fun, is to produce a "retro" AI file. I now have Hungarian AF Mig21, Mig23s and AN26 traffic using them. There is so much about these sceneries that is outstanding and even groundbreaking that I hope scenery designers will take a look also to see what can be done. The hardened aircraft shelters (HAS) are particularly amazing.... I hope the LHS team will produce LHBP. There is an old freeware one that is pretty dated now and LAGO used to have a payware version but that must be very old too and I'm not sure if it's even available. But ANY product that they choose to produce is going to be outstanding, given the quality of what they have already done.CheersIan

Bill, if you look back a bit on the forums you will see one that I think was entitled "Best Freeware airports." A lot of people contributed and it really does have some awesome stuff on it. It's worth checking outIan

Well I finally DL'd the Debrecen file, and it is indeed very impressive. The texturing and overall detail are outstanding, and framerate is fine on my not-particularly-recent system.I was especially taken with the animated train that runs around outside part of the airport perimeter.I shall definitely get the rest of them.

Hi,You must be aware that there is a near perfect LHBP available from Aerosoft done by a local guy who is one of the top simmers from Hungary. The special about the FS2004 version is that it also contains the city together with all the Danube bridges and other landmarks plus around 5-6 smaller airports in and around Budapest. Framerates are OK on FS2004 too.I just say this as you only refer to the Lago scenery as the sole payware choice.Cheers,Alex
