July 30, 201114 yr Commercial Member My god. I have to wonder what has been going on lately, I have been seeing a trend of more aviation incidents. This is not a trend I have any desire to see continue... Best of luck to the families of the 154 on board. Collin Biedenkapp Chief Executive Officer TFDi Design (Invernyx) | Website
July 30, 201114 yr My guess is the airliners are trying to save money with the economy being so fragile. Very sad to see. Cameron Lett
July 30, 201114 yr My guess is the airliners are trying to save money with the economy being so fragile. Very sad to see.Don't know If a plane running off the runway has anything to do with airlines saving money. Most likely pilot error mixed with possible weather/runway conditions. Agreed sad to see though. Hopefully everyone made it out ok. Nick Running
July 30, 201114 yr Well then the plane technically didn't go down, since it never actually got up. Pilot error sounds more like it. Cameron Lett
July 30, 201114 yr Actually, accourding to IATA the accident rate for 2010 was the lowest in history... http://www.iata.org/pressroom/pr/pages/2011-02-23-01.aspx Wayne Rudd
July 30, 201114 yr Nobody has been badly injured, so just another nice, cracked plane. Best regards, Steffen Fight time: NGX 737-700: 37,0h; -800: 47,2h
July 30, 201114 yr From the linked website: [...]that the most serious injuries were a broken leg and a mouth bleed. There were no fatalities.[...]So, nothing too serious given that the plane broke in half.Materials are replaceable, human life is not. Volker Heuermann
July 30, 201114 yr Apparently only two fractured legs...HEres another link: http://avherald.com/h?article=4407f71a&opt=0 Arthur Fabre UAL5479 - United Virtual Airlines - united-virtual.com UAL195 - United Airlines Virtual - ualva.org
July 30, 201114 yr Moderator Well then the plane technically didn't go down, since it never actually got up. I'd say that it was "up" since it didn't drive on the ground or float from the Port of Spain to George Town, and overran the runway on the landing. July 30, 201114 yr Lucky everyone survived! News reports say the aircraft touched down "in middle" of runway. I'd like to read some more concrete evidence then that :) But yeah weather was bad so probably just an overun. Flight Sim New Zealand- Flight Sim Blog
