Aviation mishaps are almost always in large part due to human error. Whether it was the pilots, or maintenance crews that got complacent in what they were doing. Is good to see that the people survived though. As far as the taxi driver charging them $20 to take them to the terminal that would be nothing new in these countries. I one time flew on a 757 from Miami to Panama City (Tocumen Intl) and the airport ammentities there were lacking to say the least. The aircraft barely had enough runway to land. Either way it was bare bones minimum of what they needed to function as an airport.

OH lord Caribbean airlines has crashed. I think that's their first aviation accident that's major. This is my home airline since I liv in port of Spain. I'm damn apostles at the fact that those well trained pilots of CAL had an accident. When I clocked on the link in the forum I would have never believed it would be CAL. But something told me to think " hmmm I wonder......" wow just happy that everyone is ok. This is such a good airline excellent service and safety. Probably weather in addition to ( if the pilot overshot)

I'm sure most of you have noticed through the pictures, but this NG has the flaps in the up/0 position. Does the NG retract its flaps when the HYD B system leaks due to a rupture (like the one caused by the overshoot)?

Take-offs are optional, landings are mandatory.
The only time you have too much fuel is when you're on fire.
To make a small fortune in aviation you must start with a large fortune.

There's nothing less important than the runway behind you and the altitude above you.
It's better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air, than in the air wishing you were on the ground.

Likely not but they take off with flaps 0 when the runwas is long enough.

The aircraft was landing.

Just reread it. You´re right. They had been on landing. Dunno why the flaps being up. Maybe someone else can explain.

Any PMDG driver should duly note that its pretty much impossible to not notice that you are coming to land at "Vflaps up " or higher... the difference between that and Vref 40. is usually in the order of 55-60kts Caribbean Airlines Procedure has traditionally dictated Flaps 40 max reverse into GEO... so highly unlikely that they landed with flaps up...

Which brings the question of why the flaps are up in all post-crash pictures. Obviously, if for some reason this crew landed with the flaps in the up position they were completely aware of this fact before any landing attempt was made. Though I digress; It's pointless (and stupid) of me to throw baseless speculation around before the real professionals have even gotten to the scene. So instead of speculating, I'll just ask a question to the 737 buffs on this forum: Do the 737 NG flaps retract when HYD fluid leaks or is completely shutdown? I remember reading something similar occurred on a DC-10 once. [i'm not suggesting this 738 had HYD problems before the crash, I have no idea what happened and won't speculate]

The reversers are hydraulic too aren't they? They were still open.
