Has there ever been buzz like this for a flightsim release?

Featured Replies

Stuck in the hell of '500 - internal server error' at the moment, but still loving the experience of the NGX release :) Like many of you, I've been constantly checking this forum - particularly in the past few months, but in reality it's been a lot longer than that. Now, it is just like the night before Christmas! So close... :) I've been simming with FS since about 1985...but have only been fully into commencial add-ons for the last couple of years. Has there ever been this amount of buzz/expectation/crashing of the internet for any other add-on for FSX/FS9/before? Anything that even came close?

It's like a niche reality show that will only last for these few hours. To my knowledge I can't recall anything like this.

The PMDG 747 FS9 release.
We talked about this yesterday, I think, but I don't think it was this crazy then. I think this release is the "King" over the "Queen"

Yeah, I wasn't around too much right before that release so I can't really say how it was. I just remember AVSIM crashing and that being covered all over the internet.

My bad. :(

I did but I have not been able to activate. EDIT: I have successfully activated now.

The original Level D Sim 767 was nuts as well.

REX was huge, easily this big. They're great at marketing.

I recall back around 2005 when they did a remake of PIC757 there was a big jam. That was on a Saturday when most were off.

I bought the Queen for FS9 a little after release...missed out on all this excitement. I did sit up and break the F5 key for Orbx's first big airport release - YMML v1 - and the server crashed then too. But this just seems 100x as big - the forum buzz, jumping on any minor piece of news...as an experience, it just seems like the Grand Final (superbowl for you seppos out there)... I'm out of '500 error' land...taken me half an hour, but PMDG now has my money...hurrah!

Look, I can't download or fly my new 737NGX yet...but I'm still pretty happy. These last few weeks/months in the forums have felt like being a part of history. It's cool to hear of the buzz that surrounded some of my other add-ons (REX, PMDG747 for FS9, Level D 767), and some others that I didn't ever use. I regret that I wasn't paying enough attention to the FS world to be part of those experiences. The overall interest in FS we keep being told is lower than in the past. Seems crazy when what we have access to is so much better than the 1980's and 1990's... I remember showing Microprose's F19 to my brother and telling him that the scenery was 'just like a photo'. He was polite for a while, and then pointed out the the graphics were in fact, just [email protected] is, in hindsight, correct, but at the time they were as close to 'reality' as I've ever seen on a computer. Compare that level of flight sim to what we've seen in the AOA videos - btw, hands up if you watched the 1 hour one more than once :) I think anyone who's not excited by flightsim in 2011 is crazy, and I think the NGX will be the pinnacle to date by a fair margin. Wonder what we'll think of these last few days when we look back in ten years time? :)
