VIOLENTJERKING WHEN ENGAGEING HEADING SWITCH

Featured Replies

Same for me, all I've done so far is run the tutorial flight 3 times but every time I've selected VOR/LOC it very suddenly banks to intercept. Anthony Hammond

I have it here as well.... Also noticed that when I'm climbing, on the climbout for example, when I engage HDG SEL, the plane jolts the 5 degrees, continues to turn, and also jolts (Vertically this time) as it compensates for the loss of lift from the bank by pulling up.

Thanks!

Hello, anybody know why when you click the heading switch to engage instead of gentley moving around to the inputed direction it jerks big time then starts to turn just like the captain sim 767,why is that?my other planes don,t.thanksjames.
Crazy goofy bug by all accounts! I hope PMDG doesn't waste time trying to justify it. Even if it were 'as real as it gets' I don't want reality in a simulation, I want "as good as it gets!' This is one of the major advantages of simulations--they can make it better than real ;O)

You can actually see the aileron deflection on the lower DU if you set it up to watch. It instantly deflects full range for a second when the heading select button is pushed. Doesn't seem normal.

One thing that will help as a workaround for now, this is for Heading Select, LNAV, and VOR/LOC... Example, if you're on approach using LNAV, dial in your current heading, Select heading select, it'll track your current heading, then dial in your new heading and it's a nice smooth turn... If on heading select then want to switch to LNAV, select the heading for an intercept, fly the LNAV route with heading select for a little bit, then press LNAV.. Same applies to LOC/VOR.. It's a pain but you'll get smoother turns..

Yep I noticed this too -

Check this video out of a real Boeing 747-400 landing at Bangkok. At the beginning, you can see an extremely pronounced (jerky) roll when loc capture is achieved, even causing the pilot to say "oh!" I think PMDG know what they're doing when it comes to simulating AP functions. I believe this is normal.

No that was smooth, mine doesn't do it like that, its not normal Dan.

Definitely would be good to have some clarification if this is normal, although it isn't on Ryan's issue list. Anthony Hammond

what also would be interesting is to try out different bank angle settings. does it make a difference between having this set to 5 or 30 for instance i wonder.

It was as smooth as the drag management video's loc capture, though. Although you can't really tell from the video, the captain adds in the comments that "the autopilot was banking rather roughly." If you watch closely, the rate of bank is actually pretty severe, about 5 degrees per second by the looks of it.

No that 747 was very smooth! The NGX jerks as if it has no inertia at all.
