Throttle Quadrant 2D panel missing?

Featured Replies

Hi, I prefer a mix of VC/2D myself, even with my triple monitor setup at 5760x1200. I have the latest track IR and hate it, it will be for sale on E-bay shortly. Will non 2D aircraft it keep me from purchasing in the future, honestly I don't know. It really depends on where everything is in two/three plus years.

Sorry, Mike... But you couldn't be more wrong. Don't make such assumption! I didn't buy J41 and I'd love to have it. Same will occur with T7.

I guess you are one of the 5%, but maybe you could still be converted - let's see?
Nope... And I don't think PMDG approves of users adding panels to their creation and putting them up for download by anyone without consent.
I'm not speaking about users making panels, but a serious 3. party developer to make a niche product for "outputting the simulator" to home build cockpits.

I think because this is such a major release for PMDG that they just mightadd the throttle panel in an update. I hope so !! Fred.

I understad why PMDG wants to go VC-only, because it's time consuming to make 2D panels. But why do VC-users start a war about how the 2D-panels are big no-no? 2D panels doesn't ruin VC-users experience?

Amazing product PMDG, congratulations!!! im%20Not%20Worthy.gif These two screenshots show what I like about 2D panels and the ability to customize them to your own liking. The 1st picture is my primary monitor (widescreen). I've created a customized panel to show the EFIS, MCP and Fire/MasterWarning gauges. The 2nd picture is my secondary monitor (4:3). I've created a customized panel to show the gauges I need to see/use during takeoff/flight/landing, in particular the auto-brake, flaps, gear lever, nav radios, upper MDU. So for me this is 2D panel heaven! Love.gif It means I can fly complex (for me) SIDs/STARs by hand without having to mess around with the VC. As a bonus I get very fluid 60 fps (versus about 19 fps in the VC). Please PMDG don't drop 2D panel support from future products. Praying.gif Also please consider adding a 2D gauges for trim position (or even an option to show trim position in the lower MDU), parking brake and fuel cutoff switches.

I could not understand your point, Rob. Do you mind to explain in other way?

I have to be honest and say I couldn't fly with a screen like that. I'll be honest again and say that the persistence from the VC 'crowd' might have won me over. I've had another go and am quite happy pressing 'A' for the various panel shots (I thought they were were 2D panels blush.png ) but I was trying to go from a Cold & Dark state on the ground and got as far as firing her up, but couldn't get the navigation sorted. Once I've mastered that and got airborne then I'm into the realms of working the flightdeck and it could be a different story. unsure.png

Yes IMO its a different story when you're in flight and following a complex SID/STAR... My dual screen 2D configuration lets me concentrate on the procedure without needing to switch viewpoints in the VC.

Let me just put some shots up for you (and forget the FPS, 60 is "nice", but 20 is "enough"):If I press Key "1" above Q:If I press Key "2" above Q:...3:...4:...5:...6:...7:...8:...9:...0: Why in the hell would I ever need a 2D? I can fly complicated approaches anytime of day. I'd rather display this onto 50inch plasma than onto 2 computer screens if you ask me. Or a beamer even...

Very nice... but I assume you don't have multiple monitors?

I did have a 2nd monitor, and used to use 2D. Until I got 24incher. I have a laptop on the side too. That is my "2nd" monitor rather...

Ok so you are using 2d panels then? If PMDG drops 2D panel support what do you put on your 2nd monitor, a new VC "view" of a specific area of the VC (eg pedestal)? Does having multiple VC views degrade FPS a lot?

No, I *used* to use 2D panels. You have your points, that's unmistaken. But it ain't needed, really. One monitor with VC is far faster to use than multiple monitors, IMO. Simple reason is that I'm faster with 1-2-3 and keeping my mouse on the screen than going with mouse onto 2nd screen... I have to "move" my view from the main screen anyway. The only effective "non-moving-from-the-screen" way is having a built cockpit in large.Otherwise I think the fastest way is like this.

With my 2D panel setup (see screenshots above) I never have to move the "viewpoint" at all during takeoff/flight/landing. I have access to everything I need without having to switch views. With the VC can you operate the MCP/EFIS whilst still seeing the outer/inner MDU? Unless you zoom out a lot I think you would have to move the VC viewpoint to operate the MCP. Additionally with a 2D cockpit I never miss a knob/switch with the mouse because the 2D view doesn't move like the VC does with its simulated head movement. Even if you turn off VC head movement your seat position still moves in large banks and you have to reset.
