Run out of memory.

Just a thought - those with out of memory issues - do you have more than one pagefile using two or more different hard drives ? Thanks,
I know nothing about pagefiles but I am running 3 internal hard drives and three external. FSX resides on my C drive, and FS9 on one of the other internal drives. How do I find info on the pagefile and get it to you? Chip B.

Good point! Add-ons for 32-bit application should be 32-bit compatible, too.

Thanks to all for adding their bit. I have learned alot from other peoples experiences. Unfortunately I don't think tweaking systems settings to increase paging files etc... will help when I haven't got past the Free flight screen. No scenery, cockpit displays or other high memory demand graphics has been loaded at this stage except the rotating aircraft model and my machine is still suffering OOM issues. I will sit back and wait awhile and let the experts have some time to think this one through. CheersJohn Cornish

Watch out, in case you have a [bUFFERPOOLS] entry on your FSX.CFG file, that excessive amount of data will cause occasional CTDs with OOM errors. I had a setting of 200000000 (200MB) and even if my video card has 1536MB of memory, i don't think that's related. I use a setting of 40000000 (40MB) now, everything works flawlessly and smooth as silk. Sceneries where i used to have CTDs because of memory errors were in venice (using VeniceX and any aircraft) and even in KJFK default scenery, using PMDG's MD-11 for example.

John, You mentioned you have used *******' tweaks. Could be worth backing up your fsx.cfg, deleting it and let FSX rebuild it. Also, could be worth ensuring you have the line: [Main]DisablePreload=1 Personally, I use very few tweaks. If you don't have this line, FSX will be loading up everything it thinks you may need.... could be causing problems. Chris

Still have not overcome the CTD and OOM in EGLL frome Aerosoft. The sliders is put back to normal and no traffic. I still get OOM on Approach with the PMDG 737NGX. I can have Autogen on Very Dense and UT2 35% traffic with other Addons like the PMDG 747X and Maddog. This is a sad thing Michael

DO ALWAYS USE 64BIT!!!!!!!i have not seen a OOM in fsx or fs9 in 2 years now since in get myself 6 gb kingston memory and a win 7 64bit
GuysI have never ever had an OOM on any of my machines. This one here is a i7 920 6 gig ram etc etc etcNever had OOM and now installed 737NGx and 3 guesses what I getOOMand I use 64 bit.So all this you should run 64 bit etc is not the solution as it also happens in 64 bit with enough page file and enough mem and machines that are fast enough to handel even tougher stuff than FSXAnd that is what I don't understandAll was fine never a prob and now there is a prob. The sliders in FSX have not been changed I always had high and extremely high settings28-34 FPSAnd now OOM and only 12-15 FPS

FSX is only a 32-bit program and will be limited to 4GB even on a 64-bit OS.Chris

Also get "Process Explorer" (It´s free), so you can monitor your VS (virtual size)In a 32-bit OS you can only reach some 1,6-1,8 VS before getting OOMIn a 64-bit OS you can reach maximum some 3,8 VS before getting a OOM So all in all, yes a 64 bit OS can also get OOM, but it´s very seldom you reachthat high level however. A combination of UT-Terrain, very dense area, with autogen, clouds and traffic on maxand a very, very complex ac such as NGX, yes then this can happen. / Leffe

Well I increased my page file size to over 4gb, I deleted the FSX.cfg file and allowed the program to build another, *******'d it and put in [Main]DisablePreload=1 entry. It worked.... for an extra minute then I got OOM message. Really strating to get under my skin so I deleted FSX and reloaded with SP1 then SP2. Loaded PMDG 737NGX and all looked OK. Loaded ORBX FTX Australia(High grade scenery package) and started getting OOM messages again. Disabled ORBX scenery and returned to FSX generic scenery. Had my first flight tonight. I really enjoyed the flight model but a little bit of reading required to fully appreciate the goodies inside. 2D Panel looks stretched{any hints for fix would be appreciated) but 3D panel looks very nice. Thanks for all those who threw in their two bobs worth. I love flying but am not that computer savvy and really appreciate those who are prepared to share their knowledge.cheersJohn Cornish

Folks with 16 GB of RAM desktops exaggerating a bit in my opinion. What application needs or can handle such amounts of memory?
Not uncommon at all for the music recording buis and the enthusiast. If I didnt have so many great sounding plugins that arent 64bit compatible Id be running at least 16gb myself.Instead I use multiple networked 32bit machines with a program called fxteleport to run large sample libraries like Vienna Symphonic and East West Studios.Obviously though just for fsx buying that much ram would be fruitless>Chris S

For me, setting TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096 back to 1024 got rid of the crashes.

armen. here 1 page file on 1 drive, size about 8gb. just got my very first oom while enroute from coffs harbour to cairns at fl340. running were also rex (textures only though) and ut2. never, never had this red cross before. never. even not all the days and hours I flew the ngx under the very same circumstances. weird. well, will see whether this replicates. possibly (hopefully) just a one time issue. will see...

it is funny to see ( no offence ) that some people here have multithousand dollar rigs and have OOMS and I just have no problems at all with my 4 year old dualcore setup. I wish you all a speedyrecovery! Ying%20Yang.gif+1
