How did this make it out of testing?

Featured Replies

How did this get out of testing? I know! People had realistic expectations of performance... You actually think that the most detailed aircraft addon ever made, with the most advanced systems simulation ever in a home flight simulator is going to perform just as well as the MD11 which is 3 years old now?

9800 GTX. I was led to believe the GPU wasn't that big of a difference maker.
Would I be right in saying that that card only has 512mb of ram? The NGX has alot of textures that need to be loaded, do me a favour and go to the cfg, and if you remember in the intro, Ryan said to set the resolution value to somthing like 4092 [or close enough to that], put that back to it's default value and report back here if you wouldn't mind please.

So far, so good, 20-25 fps on custom made sceneries. I didn't try some really demanding ones, coz my rig is quite old (C2D E8600 3,33 @ 4,3GHz, G7800GTX+) but I'm quite happy with the performance. Anyway I'm feeling that an hardware update is unavoidable :) Gregor Gresiaczynski,EDDF, EPWR

It's nice that you talk about getting great stuff. I can get FPS like that in mid air or at default airports as well. But we're talking about addon airports. I have the same system as just about all of the other guys complaining about FPS on this forum also. There is a serious issue here when PMDG uses Flightbeam's SFO in some of it's images but the flying public can't get around that airport at faster than a crawl. I have every right to rant.
After more than 10 flights I can say that I get the almost the same fps as with the pmdg md-11, even at airports like KTPA from FlyTampa (around 20FPS). The only Airport where I´ve got very low FPS is KSFO from Flightbeam (Around 12FPS)... So I can confirm that KSFO is a high demanding FPS airport, but you shouldn´t blame PMDG for that...

@ OP: I run an i7 and I have no problems. PMDG didn't lie to anyone. They stated performance was on par with past products and there are hundreds of customers that have zero issues with i7 rigs to back that up.Stop throwing a temper tantrum. It's either your hardware, your settings/addons, or a combination of both. The NGX or PMDG isn't to blame.

Gave this a try. Put it back down to 1024 from the suggested value of 4096. Didn't seem to make much of a difference. I believe this setting only loads lower res textures if said textures exist. I tried disabling the high res 3d mode in the FSX settings as well and it actually didn't look any different to me at all.

Exactly my point here. Should have to spend hundreds of dollars to get something to run decently. I think PMDG expected too much of us with this addon. That's what I'm trying to get at here.

That's a pretty arrogant thing to say. So I suppose we have no right to buy the NGX if we haven't spent thousands of dollars on hardware?

I'm sorry but there is no validity to your point! You're essentially asking PMDG to cater an add on around individual systems its just not possible

Its not an arrogant thing to say!Its a fact of life I didnt spend thousands of dollars on hardware and mine runs like a dream!!!You have every right to buy the PMDG regaurdless of your system You have every right to purchase the jumbo size toilet paper rolls at the store but that dont mean the rolls are going to fit in the holder once ya get home?

The fact that FSX leans heavily on the CPU doesn't mean that the GPU doesn't matter. I've been through three GPU upgrades on my system and I've seen significant improvement Rachel time, with all other components constant. FSX requires a balanced system, with all components supporting each other. The 9800 GPU is a serious bottleneck.

Makes more sense to aim down the middle then try to put everyone else way behind the curve.

I don't understand a word of that nonsense.

The i7 "Bloomfield" architecture processor debuted 3 years ago in 2008. I run an i7 950 Bloomfield which is already 3 year old technology and I have zero issues with the NGX. You think PMDG should develop their addons based on technology that was available 4+ years ago? Or 5 years? Six?Computing hardware will upgrade rapidly every year. If you can't keep up that's not PMDG's fault. And how did they lie to you when they posted their minimum and recommended settings on the project page before you even clicked "buy?"
