Aerosoft sale: which sceneries to get?

Featured Replies

Hey all, Thought I'd throw this one out to the wisdom of the forum. I'm about to build a new rig that runs FSX better, and now Aerosoft is running a 20% off sale. There are a handful of sceneries I've had my eye on for a while, and this might be a good time to pick a few up. Any thoughts on any of these, and especially which ones are better quality/value than the others, would be vastly appreciated. In no particular order: VFR London XLukla XTahiti XIceland XMaldives XAnchorage XApproaching Innsbruck (X?) As you can see, I have a thing for exotic locations! Thanks,James

Actually, forgot one: Budapest X--this one looks great especially as it was just updated.

So many good ones there.I wouldn't want to miss Innsbruck, but hardly ever used Lukla for example. Anchorage is well done and offers a nice starting point for bush flying and of course the big cargo routes. So that's a must too. The fps are nice too and the AES included traffic is great. As for the archipelago sceneries, if you intend to have nice locations on the long-range routes, they will add nicely. I'm not too happy about London VFR when running it with the other UK addons of mine. That really adds a load to old FSX which sometimes is a hard task, even too hard on some occasions. This depends on the plane in use of course. But this title isn't a highly optimized one, due to its rather old nature. The scenery looks amazing though. Iceland is very on the personal taste side. One would have to add Keflavik in my eyes. At least from the prices, the time is right, now. I think I'll go for Budapest these days. That update policy is impressive to see and very welcome, therefore it should be supported.

thanks for the Heads up. I quite might purchase something. Good prices at the moment!

Do not, repeat, do not forget to also get Dutch HarborX! Dutch Harbor Videos:

  1. RW Lockheed L-188 Approach (in cockpit)
  2. RW Alaska Airlines
  3. Google Maps
  4. Purchase!

Another Aerosoft you might like: SantoriniX (Greece) Cheers, - jahman.

I don't have all the sceneries you mention, but here's my take on the ones I have:- Lukla X: It's a really nice add-on, but I hardly ever use it. I only reinstalled it because a friend of mine had seen a documentary about it and wanted to have a hand at flying in there, otherwise I would have not reinstalled it. I don't use nearly enough to warrant a reinstall. - Iceland X: This is a really nice add-on. I mostly use it for the terrain enhancement on-route to Keflavik, although I have always intended to take the Aerosoft Twin Otter for a ride across the country. I personally think it is a beautiful country, and I'd love to do some flights around it, but I have so many other destinations that I also want to try, that I rarely get the chance to around Iceland. Sometime soon I will do BIKF-KJFK with a Air Atlanta Icelandic 747-400F, though. - Anchorage X: This is a really nice add-on. I did a review for it for Avsim, but as the editor is on vacation, I'm guessing it will take some time until it's published. Anyway, I can highly recommend it. However, the problem with Anchorage is the same sort of problem that's also there for Lukla: it's kind of remote, KSEA being the only really close by big airport that is not entirely default (did a merge with the old FlyTampa KSEA). As such, I recommend what jahman recommended: if you get Anchorage X, think of getting Dutch Harbor also. I bought it because of Anchorage. The flight to PABU is about 1:30, so that's not too long, and the approach is really beautiful and rather challenging, especially in foul weather. Highly recommended! Then get back to PANC. Really nice trip! - Approaching Innsbruck is a stunning scenery. The photo scenery coverage is extensive, so the mountains that are nearby are also covered. Then the city is modeled very nicely, and there are even moving trains and such. The airport itself looks as good as any recent Aerosoft airport. All in all, a really good add-on, really impressive work! - Budapest X: I have found this one always to be a bit of a mixed bag. While the scenery looks a lot better now with the update (higher resolution photo scenery), I still find the performance rather bad. Honestlky though, I think I have to fiddle a bit more with the autogen coverage, because the city was chock full of houses. Maybe if I bring down that slider a bit, the FPS will increase. That said, I have been there only about 5 or 6 weeks ago, and can say that even with the update, the add-on is still not accurate. I was bait taken aback by that. The inaccuracies are not mind blowing, but enough for me to notice anyway. As for the other sceneries, I have generally not liked stuff like Tahiti and the Maldives, not because I think they look bad or anything, but because I find it to remote. I wouldn't have a place close by to fly my planes to and from. Basically the same criticism I have for Lukla, actually.

I fly into Nice X a lot, it's one of my favourites. Some very interesting approaches from the north and eastern sectors due the the mountains. It's great value too. I think out of all my Aerosoft airports, Gibraltar X is my favourite. Tons of autogen on the little island, with great AI and AES, great scenery and of course a really, really challenging approach!

+1 My favs airports too Howard. Also Holiday airports is great too, with Atayla, Monistir,Kos, Faro. The list goes on.Some are getting a bit dated, and heavy on the horsepower, EGLL, EDDF. But Munich is wonderful, and of course all the German Airport series.

I got great FPS at Budapest putting the Autogen to max. FSX is weird like that, low autogen has a terriable impact on your flying, where in FS9, it is the opposite.

Thanks to everyone for their thoughts! Seems like a consensus that both Anchorage and Innsbruck are great, and Budapest sounds like a good bet for me as well. I'll have to think about how much I'm willing to spend! Cheers,James

Oh man, thanks for the heads up. This might get expensive for me, there's quite a few Ive been wanting, too bad Kai Tak isn't on sale.

From the preview thread, it sounds like it's close.I'm looking for that one too and although the sim may run any of my current planes there, I wonder which ones will be the most appropriate, besides the C-130 and the Twin Otter of course.I'm planning on my DC-2 too. cool.png

Approaching Innsbruck X is an absolute stunner! Especially in combination with Austria Professional X it gives a lot, and I mean A LOT of satisfaction, whether you fly GA or heavy metal; it's fantastic. If you also have FlyTampa's Vienna, you can make stunning flights between LOWW and LOWI v.v. I also agree to the combination mentioned by Thralni; Anchorage X and Dutch Harbor X. Great flight to make with the PMDG NGX. Nice X is also very, very good. Gives you a good startingpoint to the Balearic Islands (also covered by Aerosoft scenery) or to Barcelona X (also a winner!). And I know you specifically said sceneries, but if I may be so free to suggest an aircraft; the DA-20 Katana 4X is about as good as you can get for a GA aircraft. On all aspects equal to and sometimes even better compared to the A&A Piper Cub.
