October 10, 201114 yr In the case of a Terrorist Hijacking you would press this button to start the Auto Self Destruct which would blow up the plane after 5 minutes so no sensitive Boeing Technology falls into enemy hands. Paul Deemer
October 10, 201114 yr Sorry I don'have the NGX by hand and I don't know if I mean the same thig as you but I think it is the 'down lock' override. Which prevents the gear leaver to be put into the 'UP' position on the ground. Try to click on that thing and then move the gearleaver upwards. Maybe not the best thing to do but you can give it a try. ;) John Rubens

October 10, 201114 yr If no pins are in place it can be retracted on the ground. That is the reason AA lost their newest 767-300ER. http://nycaviation.c...ng-maintenance/ Paul Deemer
October 10, 201114 yr The FCOM talks about that little switch, but don't ask me where I found it. I was attempting to troubleshoot why my gear wasn't coming up during a flight some time back and that trigger came into play during the process. Scott Burns

Did AA submit a ticket to Level-D sims for encountering a CTD (Crash to Dirt)? Cheers,Victor M. Lima

October 10, 201114 yr I wonder if any recently retired af pilots who went to work on a 737 ever pretended their HGS was a targeting reticle & had their fo use the red thingy to fire missiles at a competing airlines planes...Yes, I really did just say that! October 10, 201114 yr Wonder how many lost their job over that one. People lose jobs when costing their company a lot less over a screw up. I am sure at least 1 guy lost their job for a 150 Million Dollar write off. Most Definately the guy that raised the landing gear. For what Purpose they would have done that I have no Idea. Unless! The guy brought his Kid to work and was giving him a Tour? Kid is sitting in the Co-pilots seat thinking, wonder what that Lever does? Flips it to the Up Position and before Dad can reach over and flip it back (CRASH!) Son your Grounded for Life!!! It has happened before. Remember the 9 year old boy at JFK that was Clearing Traffic for Takeoff? http://abcnews.go.co...tory?id=9995927 Paul Deemer
October 11, 201114 yr Wonder how many lost their job over that one. People lose jobs when costing their company a lot less over a screw up. 150 Million Dollar Plane got wrote off, so I am sure at least 1 person got a pink slip. Most Definately the guy that used the up lever to raise the landing gear. For what Purpose they would have done that I have no Idea.Having been a BA maintenance crew servicing the Concorde/VC-10 fleet,I'm just glad I never ever got into a situation like this. Being Air Force-trained, the very first thing we did with our RAF VC-10s was to fit the pins.Am really surprised an airline as big as AA did not have such a maintenance regime. Still, nobody is perfect and in all types of machinery, there is always one element that can never be accounted for----human beings. Rick Almeida
