October 16, 201114 yr I have the i5 2500k and it is running FSX, UTX, NGX, 3rd party sceneries, ASE all just fine. I don't know what my frames are actually because it isn't an issue for me to even worry about. It just runs smooth so I never really care what my actual FPS are. October 16, 201114 yr I have FSX on both 2500k and 2600k, the 2500k overclocks a tiny but more, just luck I guess, FSX performs equally on both of them. I wouldn't touch the AMD to be honest, I can't see how it can perform better in FSX than the best CPU available running at the fastest speeds possible right now, even the new AMD Bulldozer has not managed to match the 2500k and the 2600k, so how would a Phenom II do that?? Saying the AMD overlcoks better because of temps, not really sure how that makes sense, lower temps are better?? As long as the temps are within the recommended limits then you are good to go. I ran my 2600K at 90 degrees for a week while doing some benchmarking at 5.1Ghz and it's been running at 4.7Ghz 75 degrees now for months without a hiccup. -Iain Watson-
October 16, 201114 yr Sorry, but Chess programs like Deep Fritz 12 and Rybka 4 support as many threads as are available (8 on my rig).HenriThanks for the update. So we can modify my assertion to include chess. Corrections in italics:Most software is still not well multithreaded. Except for highly specialized programs (eg. graphics rendering, chess playing) very little software supports more than 4 threads. In addition the marginal value of additional threads declines; the 5th is worth less than the second, and so forth. On the other hand, in future more software will support multithreading.
October 17, 201114 yr I think it has 6. Best. Miquel Egea. The 2600K is equipped with 8MB of shared cache that is dynamically allocated to each core to reduce latency and improve performance. October 17, 201114 yr Yo were asking if the i5 2500K had 4 Mb cache. And the answer is 6 MB.The 2600K has 8. I know it; i have it.Best. Miquel Egea.

October 17, 201114 yr I don´t want to extend this thread. I read you assumed that i5 2500k had 4 Mb cache and i answered that were 6 MB. That´s all.Other than that, best regards. Miquel Egea. Edit: I notice that you have deleted your last post. Without it, this has no sense. Best.
October 17, 201114 yr Ok, here it is. The only difference between the i7 and i5 is the i7 is HP enabled, which FSX cannot recognise, and has a little more cache which, in real terms, will not make the slightest bit of difference. October 17, 201114 yr You get all the chicks with a 2600K. Who cares about performance? If only that were true :) LOL

October 17, 201114 yr get yourself a 486, that will do it for sure. WycliffeI still have an old 386 and a 486 stored in the shed. the 486 still goes, but the 386 has weeds growing out of it. October 17, 201114 yr Dear dazz, does it make any difference to have HT off in your 2600k? I did not switch it off yet. October 17, 201114 yr Dear dazz, does it make any difference to have HT off in your 2600k? I did not switch it off yet. Peter It will affect the correct affinity mask settings which may or may not degrade performance.Edit: Disabling ht also reduces CPU heat, so you may be able to achieve a higher oc if you haven't already hit that particular cpu's wall.
