That first picture comparison........ The FSX picture. What in the world is that small white block towards the bottom right section of the image? Is that one of the high detailed airports Maddog has been telling us about that shipped with stock FSX? LOL.gif
HelloBack when FSX was released ACES had this to say about the airports, Acceleration added a few more Major hubs after that"FSX has 24,000 airports internationally with 1200 being detailed, Each airport features artificial intelligence-controlled jetways, fuel trucks and moving baggage carts"That was the state of the art six years ago, and XP10 will ship with how many in 2012?You spotted one that has no buildings, still a lot better than XP10 though 1200 vs One , Two if Innsbruck gets included from V9

Don't be obtuse.FSX has over a 1000 airports with accurately placed buildings, taxiways, jetways, and dynamic vehicles present.Hell, I can load up KBPT, a pretty tiny regional airport in my area and the terminal is where it should be with the proper amount of gates as are the hangers except for two of them.

Mitch,Count the number of buildings at your home airport in XP 9 and post the number here.

For a desktop sim, I'd say that FSX duplicates flight rather well. If you dismiss it that easily, then I figure that you don't have a real clue of what you're talking about. Have a nice evening...L.Adamson

Hoe, hoe, hoe, no it doesn't.

I said that to a few sisters walking down the street during Christmas a few years ago and they weren't to happy, lol....

Embarrasssing to see how many people identify themselves with a piece of software. Makes every discussion senseless and as boring as possible.

No it doesn't. It is very understandable. People "build up" from the initital product, in a flight sim with gazillions of add-on options and decisions/preferenes to be made expecially. People spend money for it and maybe also put their own creativity into it. But sure, some really need to relax some more ;)

Understandable? Sure. But understandable doesn't mean reasonable, right? So even if something is your own product you should be able to step back from it for judgement. As you should be able to step back from "yourself" now and then and question your decisions and motives...not saying it´s easy, not saying I´m the master of that. But keep trying.Back to flightsim issues...

Been following the thread and hopefully arriving at the right conclusion. So the object placements are 'easy" as to modify visuals. IE: Creating an outpost in the bush or modifying a stock airport is not as time consuming as before? Not trolling, but , in FSX to make changes in airport, adding heli pads, trees, buildings etc. take 10 hours. The same location X Plane, how long to do the same? The reason I ask, it appears X Plane is made to be modified via the regular Joe. It has an open source type atmosphere. Am I correct in assuming this? If modifying small out of the way bush type airports are easily modified, for me that is a deal maker. On the other hand, one has to be a semi pro to do the mods, no problem. Great having Aerosoft dig into this project. You build, I will buy!

@drumsonlyWith Overlay Editor, (which I believe will be part of the new WED editor) it takes about 5 minutes to add a hanger, vehicles, planes and such once you get used to it.The documentation for how to use it is very straight forward. You can also use WED to have more control but takes a little longer.Once the tools are released for XP10 give it a go.http://marginal.org.uk/x-planescenery/tools.html

That is very encouraging. Want to find or build small hard to get to heli pads or airstrips. camps on the sides of lakes etc. Real bush flying, hard to get at places. Also make a main lodge type airport. Things of that nature. I have not the skills to modify FSX / Orbx. If X Planers / FSX converts / designers jump onto this, the making of a better visual sim than out of the box will be a lot more rapid. 2006 FSX is now a thing of beauty, but took a few years to get there. X Plane will be transformed much more quickly. Out of the box, X-10 has some beautiful landmasses, only to be improved upon. I like the fact the squished photoreal scenery will be a thing of the past.

which I believe will be part of the new WED editor
This is not correct.Overlay Editor is/was a 3rd party effort at placing scenery due to the lack of development of WED. WED (World EDitor) is the official scenery editing tool produced by Laminar and will be self-sufficient for placing scenery into xplane. Once proficient in WED, you can assemble a plausible airport with taxiways, lines, lighting, hangars, towers, aircraft vehicles, jetways, forests, trees, etc in less than an hour. WED has been on the back-burner due to V10 development, but I have been the guinea pig for it's development during the process and it is pretty darn robust. There are a few holes to clean up so there will pass some amount of time before it gets released to the public. The primary difference between WED and Overlay editor is that in Overlay Editor, you have a 3D isometric view of your 3D objects whereas in WED, it is a 2D top down view and of course WED supports the full range of x-plane features whereas Overlay editor only supports some very basic functions. Here is a screenshot of WED with the default KSEA layout in it. Creating video tutorials some time in 2012 is on my todo list.-Tom KylerXP10 sceneryXP10 aircraft
