How do I set stabilizer trim in 2D panel?

Featured Replies

As the title suggests, how do I set the stabilizer trim in the 2D panel? There must be somewhere in 2D that tells me my stab setting...???Note that I have disabled my VC (by commenting out the interior model) because I do not use it and it reduces my sim performance. I also find it unrealistic and cumbersome for procedural training (my main use). Cheers,Bryn Battersby

Bryan, but unfortunately, you CAN'T.PMDG refuses to admit that when you fly 2D, you want to fly 2D, not changing 2D to 3D when you need something. They modeled everything in 2D, except trim, fuel cutoff, and flap lever. Sorry buddy, I use NGX for the same purpose of you, and I must say, changing 2D/3D just to see trim it's ridiculous.

But surely there must be a workaround, as there is for fuel cutoff (Shift-F1 or Shift-F3) and flap lever (the flap indicator gauge)?

Well you can assign a shortcut for the trim but you still won't be able to see how much trim you have...

Ships are cooler that you think.

I'm amazed by the fact that PMDG refuse to admit that switching 2D/3D just to see a number is RIDICULOUS. They WON'T model the 2D trim indicator + fuel cut off (that's PMDG oficial position)... They even modeled an UNCLICKABLE/NOT WORKING/DUMMY data retrieve system near cockpit door and they'll not model the trim.Really, I don't get it.

The memo digi-switches on the control wheels are also modelled and animated. How useful is that in comparison to a 2D stab trim/fuel lever popup?Kevin Hall

And what's worse is that it is not mentioned anywhere before you buy. And then there's also no money back guarantee.

To be fair, it's been mentioned a lot in the forum, and it's not something I'd demand a refund over, the NGX is too good. However I don't understand why PMDG bothered to produce a 2D main panel at all if they can't do the pedestal in 2D in some form. I can understand their decision not to do full 2D panels in future, but I simply don't understand the decision to leave the 2D panel set incomplete on the NGX having effectively promised it would have one.Kevin Hall

If you want to fly 2D only, then you really have to ask yourself if the NGX is the right tool for you. If you are only flying in 2D because you are afraid of change or worried about potential performance impacts, then I can only suggest that you be brave and give it an honest try. Even for procedural training, real world pilots do not use 2D panels, they are expected to know their way around the cockpit and know where to look for the instruments they need.

I agree well said paul, since if you look at real videos the pilots look down etc they dont just look straight ahead in 2d and click a button to bring up a panel in front of them.

Paul and Pete, PLEASE, don't turn this thread into 2D x 3D... This is NOT the subject here.

if you keep mentioning the 2d not being moduled all the time is not 2d x3d than i dont know what is. And beside pmdg have already stated their position on this so why keep bringing it up all the time.

Because if it's brought up enough maybe PMDG will relent on this and add the panel, since all other 2D's are there. Not to mention that those fly VC don't need to reply, this isn't about you.

Jay

Pete, I'll make Jay's words, my words. The subject here is TRIM Indicator not modeled. Not "which is the best 2D or 3D".
